Fabric Question Fabric batting for pot holders?

Anyone have a recommendation for what to use to make them as heat resistant as possible?

Insul-bright is the name of the specialty insulating batting. It can be layered either with itself or with natural fiber batting/fabric for more thickness— just don’t use regular polyester quilt batting since that might melt with high heat.

I took some old 100% cotton bedsheets that were too worn out to keep using and folded the fabric until it was the right thickness. You'll want to quilt it just the same as any normal batting because the fabric will keep breaking down with subsequent washings and turn into loose-fiber batting inside the potholder anyway.

There is a specialty batting made specifically for pot holders. I don’t know how easy it is to find now that Joann’s is no more. I wish I could remember what it was called.

Denim? I made oven mitts from 100% cotton denim and 100% cotton terrycloth. The part I grip with is two layers of denim and terrycloth.

I made potholders from leftover dress fabric and terry cloth, all 100% cotton. For years now the dress has been referred to as the potholder dress.

Note: In sewing class in school we made potholders using old towels, so I knew it would work. Our mom still has our sewing class potholders.
