Taking Notes - Though someone was making it difficult, on purr-pose

Post image

Do you guys take notes?

I basically cannot go through a session without keeping a record of the events going on, important people we meet. And sometimes detailed descriptions of how things went down.

We're four players and I'm the only one doing this. So, I am usually that one that does the session recaps, and the one that 'remembers' stuff when needed. I don't mind, I do it for me. But I do wonder how my friends can just wing it without writing anything.

My personal method as a player (not GM) is a few 3x5 cards. 1 with character names and info, 1 for story items / clues, and 1 for session events / math.

I don’t prefer the notebook thing cuz I want to keep those categories in separate areas, and find page flipping to be annoying. And I find taking notes on a computer or phone to be un-immersive.

This is great advice. I might start doing the same cuz I've found myself flipping like a mad scientist saying 'Wait, I have it somewhere' out loud.
I totally share the phone and PC argument about taking notes there, it won't do it for me and nothing beats graphite and a piece of paper.

I think that every player has to take on some responsibility when playing a TTRPG. It can’t all call on the GM… it’s just too much 😂

The next level nerd stuff is to annotate info YOUR character has vs what info other members of your party have. Like X person met that bartender… but my character didn’t… so why would I possibly know their name?

Next level of note-taking. Makes sense.
