Robin
I’m on my I don’t even know what rewatch. And I just got to S3 E15. Do you think they always planned to use Robin in the future or it just worked out down line?

Since they brought her back in the S3 finale epilogue, they probably planned to use her again. Maybe not for her S5 role, but for something.

I think they had a five season plan going in honestly
I remember them hyping up the episode Spacetime in the week before it released as "the most pivotal episode of the series that will impact everything from here on out" and looking back on the rest of the first five seasons I get what they mean as the failure to change time set the precedent that the entire plot of season 5 is based on....
Like yeah there's some things they probably figured out as they went but the broad strokes like the final threat being gravitonium and a time loop they needed to break out of I think they had set in stone since the start...
Like they knew when Infinity War was set for release and they intended for Season 5 to be their last one but only did 6 and 7 because their fans wanted more and they got the green light for the final 2 seasons....
It makes sense that they had a vision for what they wanted and planned ahead and then adapted other stuff on the fly while also keeping in mind what fans liked as well

There was a lot more improvisation in the writing process than you imagine but they planted seeds that could be picked up and developed later.
The main issues they had to deal with were:
rights to characters. For example they didnt have Daisy Jonhson in season 1 so they planted seeds for Sky to have some mysterious backstory - they could have made her be someone else but got the go ahead for Daisy in season 2.
season renewals. As far as I recall, they didnt have confirmation of the next season until quite late (except for season 4 and 7 where they new while making the previous season). They rarely knew there would be more seasons.
limited information from the movie side. Marvel Studios controlled information strictly and in particular they did not share the Snap with the show - they had to write season 5 and 6 without knowledge of the snap.

Oh I know the snap was not shared- it wasn't even shared with some of the actors on the film That's why I get the feeling they have their story in Season 5 wrap up before the events of Infinity War finish because they know they can't write around whatever happens so they're just gunna be like "okay so we won't" It's why I subscribe to the theory that once they went through the white monolith at the start of season 5 they were thrown onto a diffrent timeline from the sacred timeline that was almost identical and they can't even tell the difference And again I think they had broad stokes of what they wanted to do early on and then cemented those ideas the closer to season 5 we got because It does feel like they wrote the story with seasons 1-5 in mind and seasons 6 and 7 are something extra

The show runners talked about the season 5 ending in particular in various places, including on Elizabeth Henstridge's podcast “Live with Lil”
When breaking down the episodes for most seasons they didn't know if this would be the last, but usually they got renewed early or at least before production wrapped for the season. This is how they could add teasers for the next season in the last episode once they knew it was happening. Every season finale could have been the show finale without these additions. They didnt get the news during season 5 production until the very last moment and this is the main reason that end feels more final. They has no indication there would be anymore seasons so they stuck with plan A: write an end wrapping up most things with some seeds for what the characters might be doing after the show ended.
This also kind of explains why season 6 feels a bit rushed, because it was. They had not done the same pre-planning for a season they would have done if they knew at a regular time that the show was continuing and they had to write the whole thing in less time. Even though there was a wait for viewers, season 6 was written and production started before Infinity War was released.

AFAIK they thought 5 could be their last season, so they brought back a lot of stuff for the fans and to tie up loose ends. Robin, Hunter, Deathlok, Superior, Gravitonium, etc.
