How long did your post-shingles nerve hypersensitivity last?

I had disseminated shingles (extensive in multiple dermatones and crossed midline slightly) a few months ago. I am young and immunocompetent. I was a bit late getting treatment as they thought it must be something else until swab confirmed.

The lesions have been healed for 2 months now but the skin is still hyper-sensitive all the way down the affected leg and lower back. Sometimes it is very difficult to even pull trousers up, other times it’s only a mild tingle. It varies greatly by day.

How long did you experience the pain/hypersensitivity? What worked for you?

14 years and still sensitive 100% of time, occasional shooting and about 2x/day very sharp like labor pains. I was on an antiviral within 24 hours of blister outbreak.

This made me feel less like a screw up for not catching my shingles out break earlier. I am two year out and am irritated 100 percent of the time unless I am exercising.
Today it feels like someone is pulling my hair. The outbreak was on my back . Good time

1 year daily. A second year chronically. A third year sporadically.

My skin is numb but there are a couple spots that intermittently itch like mad. Been a month since diagnosed.

Im a couple months post recovery. Nerve pain is mild and hit or miss throughout the day. I had it on my neck wrapped around over my left shoulder and patches on that side of my chest. That shoulder joint still aches, sometimes pretty bad, throughout the day. Hoping that subsides cause thats the worst of what remains.

The big lidocaine patches can stay on forever and protect your skin from clothing or anything else rubbing or touching the sensitive area. .

Are you referring to OTC patches? The prescription 5% patches are 12 hours on 12 hours off

I only used the otc, really for sensitivity. Not that effective for pain for me.

Gotcha, the prescription Lidocaine helps a bit for pain

I am several months out of disseminated shingles x 2 and still an issue. I feel your frustration.

One year and a month past having shingles. Still have nerve pain and numbness in the spot where it was. Sometimes but not often, it’s unbearable. I still use lidocaine patches and cream.

I had shingles last October, and sometimes I still have tingling in my lesion spots. Had it on my scalp. Oh, and there’s occasionally numbness on the back of my ear still.

20 months so far. I will say periodically i will think it's getting better.
