This isnāt directly about shoujo, but I read shoujosei almost exclusively which is why I wanted to pose the question here.
Obviously, reading a manga volume counts as reading. But ive always struggled (with myself, this is purely self inflicted) with counting manga toward my book count for the year.
Iāve always loved reading both novels and nonfiction books, but I havenāt been able to read as much (audiobooks included) in the past few years because of a combination of work stress, forgetting to, or just not feeling engaged enough with what Iām reading even though I want to read the book in front of me.
But Iāve maintained reading manga and go through phases every few months where I read a bunch of manga in a short period of time.
I guess I struggle with counting it towards my book count because theyāre not only short, but theyāre visual with minimal words so even though I obviously read it, the sense of accomplishment doesnāt feel the same as reading most other books. I do feel that when I finish a series, however.
The answer to this question wonāt impact whether or not I read manga or read anything at all, but it is something Iāve always been curious to hear othersā thoughts on.

I'm reading Ao Haru Ride, and Aya said exactly what I wanted to say to Kou, he really gave Kou a serious talking-to something Kou had long deserved and that Iād wanted to do myself for ages. Thank you, Aya, you tried to warn Kou from the very beginning not to mess things up, but unfortunately, he didn't listen to you. I wish you the best; I hope you win Murao over and that the two of you find great happiness together. š„°

Hey, everyone!
I'm looking for some of your favorite recs for deeply dramatic, psychological shoujo works. I've been reading a lot of Moto Hagio, Keiko Takemiya, and Yumi Tamura currently (just finished volume 20 of 7Seeds, so good!). I recently read Cipher, too, which was fantastic.
I'm also watching Dear Brother and am a huge fan of shows like Utena, Aim for the Ace, RoV, etc.
I would love to just learn about your favorite dramatic, serious or silly, over-the top or deeply brooding picks. I'm open to anything.
Thanks!
TW: incest
name: the queenās dogs (儳ēć®ē) raws: https://www.cmoa.jp/title/305156/?order=up#buyarea
summary: basically the fl is a princess who dreams of succeeding her father and becoming the emperor of the phoenix empire. however, an incident happens that causes everyone to turn their backs on her, likely orchestrated by her yandere twin brother. her fatherās concubine (aka the ml) then helps her regain influence and power again
ā
the flās twin brother is the guy w red hair & the ml is the guy w long black hair
there are already two volumes released but only the first two chapters are translated !
thereās obviously a lot to unpack here, which is why i hope this gets picked up again. itās lowkey giving vampire knight vibes bc of how messy it is, but i canāt judge too much purely based off two chapters & the authorās X account. the ml being her fatherās concubine is definitely something though š š im curious if flās brother will actually be portrayed as a sml or if heāll be portrayed more as an antagonist
at first, i didnāt think much of the brother but the creator actually posted a side story (?) of flās yandere brother imprisoning AND forcibly marrying her on their twitter account (@yoshikazucham). again, big tw for incest bc theyāre half siblings & nsfw warning for the side story if you decide to look for it. disclaimer: im not sure if this is actually part of the manga or if itās just an extra story unrelated to the plot š
if anyone has any spoilers, pls lmk!! the raws currently have 18 released chapters

Visual wise it was beautiful (it's MAPPA afterall)...Im not familiar with the Manga or the Og Anime adaptation (infact i have almost zero knowledge before watching this)...but i feels like the movie skip a lot of stuff through narration and some montage(in a beautiful way i guess)..also the song placement was kinda overwhelming and none of it (imo) are memorable..
Should I read the manga or watch the og anime (or both?)

Hi, I know many people have asked this question before, and I'm actually aware about the article in which it says their dynamic won't be romantic, but I don't know what the original Japanese in that interview was so I want to ask people who have read farther along in the manga in Japanese what they personally think. I love Magical Girl Dandelion but I just don't really want a romance, and so if I can save myself some time and heartbreak by getting a warning beforehand, that would be great.
Does the relationship between Tanpopo and Shade dip into romance at the point of the manga we're in right now? Or would you say it's still a platonic dynamic of some sort?
Edit: thanks for answering everyone! I really appreciate it. I think I'll keep reading it.

I just wanted to share the light novels that Iāve read which I enjoyed and think are worth checking out for others!
Light novels are a great way to get used to reading more prose if youāre looking to read more but mostly stick to manga and/or find reading full-length novels difficult for various reasons (time, length, etc).
The world is a better place with more people reading, and I hope more people can check out these books Iāve enjoyed tooš
I read a lot of these through my library on Hoopla and Libby, so if youāre uncertain about them itās definitely worth checking out what your library offers!
What are your favorite light novels?

Hello, as the title says, I recently got caught up on Tales of the Tendo family and I'm really into this dynamic right now. I would appreciate any recommendations for similar manga, huge plus if it is a finished series from the last decade or so and also available on Google Books. Also I'm not really into the Yakuza/Mafia trope. I tried searching r/YendereMale but got slightly overwhelmed. š
Other manga I have read and enjoyed recently include:
Firefly Wedding (which then led me to Tales of the Tendo Family)
The Ayakashi Hunter's Tainted Bride
My Happy Marriage (watched the anime)
Bride of the Barrier Master
I also really enjoyed the anime for An Observation Log of My FiancƩe who Calls Herself a Villainess.
Bonus points for either extremely sheltered FL or traumatized/abused FL. Thank you!!! š

Thereās this manga where a girl has been into this childhood friend of hers but his younger brother also likes her. And the younger brother is a waiter or something. Heās younger than the FL.
