I’ve been trying different AI tools for college work and for learning skills that can potentially be turned into freelance work.

After using them, I noticed that having access to many tools isn't particularly useful. The better approach is to choose a tool based on the problem you're trying to solve.

These are the ones I found most useful:

For studying

• ChatGPT — explaining difficult topics in simpler language and helping me break large topics into smaller sections.
• NotebookLM — useful when working with your own PDFs, notes and study material.
• Perplexity — useful when I want to research a topic and look at sources.

For creating content

• Canva — useful for presentations, thumbnails and social media graphics.
• CapCut — useful for editing short videos and adding captions.

For coding

• GitHub Copilot — useful for generating code suggestions and explaining parts of code while learning.

For productivity

• Gemini — useful for brainstorming, writing and working with information.
• Gamma — useful when I need to turn an idea into a presentation quickly.

The biggest thing I learned is that AI itself isn't really the skill. For example, knowing how to use ChatGPT doesn't automatically make someone a freelancer. Combining AI with a useful skill—such as writing, design, video editing, coding or research—is much more valuable.
