Feature Request Disable donate button for subscriptions?
I’m a paying customer at signal, I have a subscription for backups. (Which is nice)
So why am I still getting popups asking for more money ?
If the subscription for backup isn’t enough to make a profit, raise the subscription price by a dollar, in stead of nagging me about it.

Lol I didn't know that was a thing, how annoying. I've donated before but never subscribed. I don't really need backups so they just haven't offered me any features I'd be willing to sub for

Happy cakeday 🎁
Yeah I thought it was a bit annoying too.
But for me the subscription actually makes sense, because I’m not on either google nor apples built in backup solution. And I like the backups
Once lost all my photos from me and my GF’s chat, was a bit gutting1

Thank youuu!
My husband is the same way, really into having old conversations available. I'm just not sentimental that way!

Im not that sentimental, and I oftentimes purge my discord, facebook and Reddit accounts… But my girlfriend sends me nudes over signal, and I want to have them forever

See, if I get something I want to save, I do LOL.

And my dumb ass just thought everything would stay in signal on my phone
And then
It didn’t 😅1

This sounds like an XY problem. Why not just save the nudes somewhere else besides Signal? Then they don’t need to live in Signal and you don’t need to pay for extra backup storage.

Signal has always been supported by donations from donors big and small. The backup feature is not designed to turn a profit; the pricing reflects at most a very small profit, and the rest goes to that cloud storage and other maintenance costs.

Can someone explain Signal? I thought it was intended for the army? And it was safe? Is this true?

Signal is the gold standard for secure civilian communication.
Signal wasn't intended for the army, but many deployed military use it to safely communicate with family back home.

I used to donate from time to time
But I thought it was more convenient with a subscription (and bonus I get some storage)
And now I’m a paying customer who still gets nagged0

and give me backup for free if i am a donator. i donate more than people with the subscription give. i feel left out not getting backups while paying more.

Why not subscribe then?
As for why they can’t give you storage, I think that might violate something in Apple’s policy.
Apple doesn’t take a cut of donations but they do take a cut of subscriptions (30% for the first year you’re subscribed).
If the company is a registered non-profit donations are given fully to the developer.-1

I donate because I don't need paid backups, so it's more money to them with less technical complexity. Plus I get a profile badge.

They’ve been explicit about why they can’t and won’t give backups to donors. If you receive in-app perks for donating, it is no longer a donation. Apple and Google take that distinction seriously and that could potentially jeopardize Signal’s status in the Play and App stores.
