I’ll be staying in a north-facing room in west tower. Do I need to bring a fan, or does the room stay cool enough without one?

Also, for now, would a thin/light blanket be enough? I’ll bring a warmer winter blanket later.

Heading into this semester, I’m curious to know what people think will result from the international student freeze hitting SFU and other universities across BC.

Apparently BC international student enrolment has dropped 24 percent since 2023-24, which is not a small amount. Will we see less services and course offerings? Higher tuition? Both?

Hi everyone, 2023 graduate here. I'm soon to be engaged and have been doing some preliminary wedding venue research. The Diamond Alumni Centre looks like it could be a good, more affordable venue. I seem to remember reading once about alumni being able to use it at a discount, but can't find any information online about it.

Does anyone know if there is an alumni discount? Alternatively, has anyone actually had their wedding here and know what the cost may look like?

I've just applied for coop as a hsci major (bsc), and I'm starting the prep class this fall, so I just wanted to know what some of you guys think about the coop.

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice regarding retroactive WE application.

I am currently an undeclared BA Econ student (admitted in fall 2025 for BA Econ but still haven't declared an Econ major). I'm planning to transfer to Beedie. My concern is that I first took Math 157 in Spring 2026 and got an F. Then I retook it in summer 2026 and got a D. But for all my other courses, I have good grades. I've been having symptoms of depression and anxiety for months now, but I didn't see a professional until now. Since it's hard to get permission for a third attempt, I'm planning to apply for a retroactive WE for my second attempt, in which I got a D. But since I'm doing this after the semester already ended, I'm scared that my chances will be much lower.

1. Since I got a D (although a D is considered a passing grade, Math 157 is a prerequisite for many upper-level courses, so it requires a minimum grade of a C-), can I really apply for a WE?
2. Are the chances of approval better if I apply for a WE for my first attempt, in which I got an F?
3. I haven't previously consulted a professional, so can I go to SFU's clinic and explain my situation to the doctor and then get a medical note from them? Will they not approve my application because I didn't see a doctor during the term?
4. Are Selective Withdrawal WEs (like withdrawing only from Math 157) less likely to be approved than Complete Withdrawals?

Appreciate any advice from anyone who has applied for a retroactive WE. Can you tell me your situation, the process of obtaining documents/proof, and the result?

honestly I just wanna know if I should do coop for sfu beedie now? im going in my second year so ill start my work term next summer. but the only thing is I dont know why coop should be done? and is now the right time? cause why not just apply for internships on ur own and not pay that fee cause it is lowk a lot of money... idk should I do it?

joined Sfu last fall thinking I would do good in environmental science but then I learned I have to do stem and all so I took business but because I got credits from IB I’m in the category of over 48 units and I actually did well this semester however my cgpa is not that good (family issues and all) and I was wondering if there was any hope for me for beedie or should I just stay in environmental science?

I am thinking of doing CMPT 295 (Greg), Stat 271 (Becky), Macm 316 and an online elective next semester are those classes too hard together or will I be ok if I grind? Would it be better if I switch one of the first 3 classes with Cmpt 318/376W?

Hi, has anyone here received their Fall 2026 StudentAid BC funding/payment through SFU yet?

My enrolment was confirmed on Aug 26, an my funding is supposed to be remitted directly to SFU for tuition.

I need an official receipt/proof showing that my tuition has been paid, preferably by Monday (Aug 31).

For anyone who has gone through this before:

• How long after enrolment confirmation did the StudentAid payment actually show up on your goSFU account?
• Once it showed up, were you able to download an official receipt/account statement immediately?
• Is there any way Financial Aid can provide confirmation before the payment actually appears on goSFU?
• Would contacting Financial Aid on Monday morning help speed this up?

I was in the BOT program and have been required to withdraw upon finishing it this term. I only took one course besides the BOT course this semester and got a C-, meaning my term GPA was below 2.0.

I talked to my BOT advisor and they recommended applying for a WE under medical grounds. I've been having symptoms of depression and anxiety for months now but didn't see a professional when the symptoms started. I was in a toxic relationship and afraid to ask for help during the term because I was so ashamed of my situation. I was thinking of seeing a doctor ASAP, get an assessment, and have them fill out the required forms. But since I'm doing this after the semester already ended, I'm scared that my chances will be much lower.

If anyone has applied for a retroactive WE, can you tell me your situation, process of obtaining documents/proof, and the result? I understand this was all on me and I can't blame anyone for my own failures, just looking to see if I have a chance at the WE and continue my studies at SFU.

I’m planning to apply for a Master’s program in Cybersecurity at Simon Fraser University (SFU), but I’m concerned about my undergraduate CGPA.

My current CGPA is 2.57/4.00, which is below what I understand to be the usual academic requirement. There were several circumstances that affected my undergraduate academic performance, and I can provide documentation and explain them in my application where appropriate.

However, I have more than 2+ years of professional experience in the cybersecurity field, which is directly relevant to the program. I can also obtain strong academic references from university lecturers as well as recommendations from industry professionals/employers.

I came across information about conditional admission at SFU and wanted to understand how this works in practice.

My questions are:

1. Can someone with a CGPA of 2.57 apply for conditional admission to an SFU Master's program?
2. Is there a separate application process for conditional admission, or do I simply apply to the regular Master's program and request/indicate that I would like to be considered for conditional admission?
3. How much weight can relevant professional experience, academic references, and industry recommendations have when the undergraduate CGPA is below the normal requirement?
4. Has anyone here been admitted to an SFU graduate program with a similar CGPA but relevant professional experience?
5. Is it worth contacting the SFU graduate program/admissions office before submitting my application to ask whether my profile could be considered?

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar situation or has experience with SFU graduate admissions.
