Ski jacket

Anyone know a good ski jacket softshell for all mountain skiing?

Im looking for a bit of an alt style baggy softshell, preferabbly a white or gray one. And i dont want it to break the bank like 200-220 max. If gore-tex is available at that price range would be perfect but not neccecary

Edit: im now looking at solo apparell. Found this on tiktok and enough people online say its good quality for a cheap price. If anybody knows this brand and can let me know the actual quality would be apreciated.

Japanese used to love white slippery ski wear until they fall on a steep slope. Remember ski patrol waiting at the bottom of Mt Norquay lone pine run, haha

Yup. White and colors that look like natural vegetation are hard for others and ski patrol to see

The problem is that the people skiing behind you might not know what you are doing because the do not see you. There was a really interesting video of someone with a white jacket (albeit with white trousers) a few weeks ago in one of the skiing subs. The person wearing white was not visible until the last split-second.

TL;DR: Even if you know what you're doing, the person coming from uphill might not.

The brighter the color the better as it’s easier to see you and also easier for ski patrol to find you should you get lost or buried in the snow (non natural colors aka colors that don’t look like trees/vegetation are the easiest to spot) :)

I use my patagonia torrentshell as my shell all year round, including as my ski shell. I recommend it.

Oh true I took softshell to mean without insulation but that was the wrong type of jacket

torrentshell is decent but for softshell you probably want something that breathes more, patagonia have some options but they cost a bit over your budget usually

I use one most of the time and years ago before the GoreTex we mostly skied with nylon jackets. Some will ski with puffy down jacket.

Unless you ski in a place that has frequent rain, freezing rain or snowfall at near 0C, you're good without a waterproof hardshell

Yeah defenetly, i got a hardshell for bad weather but a softshell is more comfy. For park or any skiing that requiers more body movement its very nice to have

Oh yeah! They are warmer, more breathable, and more comfortable. Depends on your region, but in dry Colorado, they are the move for like 80% of days.

So i have an Arc’teryx Beta Pro which is a hard shell and ridiculously priced, close to a $1000 with taxes. It actually fits and works quite well up until a pocket seam delamination! Thats when I realized how shitty customer service and the so called warranty was. I feel stupid for buying it because now there are lots of less expensive choices with serious customer support. I would not recommend buying anything from Arc’teryx at this point unless you have lots of cash to burn.

A soft shell is ok in warm spring weather but you need a hard shell for most other winter conditions. Make sure to get one with a dedicated pocket for your pass so that scanning is fool proof! Upper arm etc. … see what Patagonia has

So i re read your post - your budget is tight and you need an outer layer that works in all conditions im assuming. I live in the west so a hard shell is where it’s at for me. Maybe you can make a soft shell work in your area for some days but def not all days. The outer layer is your first line of defence and thats where hard shells shine!
