Enterprise AI tools

Hey, help me out if you are a dev for big business. The bigger, more legacy, old school the better. I'm fascinated by how these big businesses approach the use of AI coding tools and subs.

It feels like most vendors have switched to pay per use rather than flat subscriptions. Which means those businesses suddenly have to get their heads around either not letting the devs use modern tools, out paying for some discretionary expense that might vary hugely. Who foots the bill? Department? Project? Do you have any special deals for shared use or polling then budgets? Do you have a fixed allocation and down tools when you're half way through the month and run out?

What I've seen is that when it was a flat sub we could get a good deal, and get it centrally funded, but in the future it's a bit you in the air. So I'm curious what others are seeing.

Fortune 200(ish). Green screens as our ERP old school. GitHub Copilot is also where we started.

Now we have Copilot, Gemini, and Anthropic enterprise licenses. The business folks prefer Gemini. The devs are all requesting access to Claude. And many are happy with GutHub Copilot.

We technically have an ‘AI Enablement’ team who organizes the license / bill. But it’s also wild west in many ways.

I get $1000 a month with Claude and only spend a fraction of that - although I do watch my spending very close. I never saw the Copilot or Gemini bill.

I’m using 1 AI tool or another every single day. Mainly Claude Code inside VS Code.

Ftse100(ish) GitHub copilot pretty much on its own. Allows enterprise wide pooling of credits. Someone monitors if you go over your personal allowance, but there aren't many. No one is allowed to do full agentic hands off mode. All centrally funded

Exactly the same at our org. When Microsoft first switched to credits we all went over our pooled credits. Now it’s monitored and we have to be use it only really when needed since it’s capped per month

I've heard we are heading towards similar but with overage charged to project... Not ideal but maybe workable. We also have some isolated users of Kiro funded by project. Thanks for sharing!
