There are many things that I have an embarrassing surplus of: loose diamonds, jewelry, inspo pics, and definitely opinions. And yet, I am failing at posting here consistently. I hate looking at a blank post box and trying to come up with something out of thin air. And I don’t want to feel like I’m always selling stuff, you know? One big bummer of being booted from most of the jewelry subreddits is that I don’t get to squee with people about sparkly things as much as I used to.

So, can I ask for some help from this lovely community? Ask me things. Give me prompts about diamonds, settings, weird cuts, custom jewelry, pricing, sourcing, things you’ve always wondered but assumed were too rude or weird to ask a jeweler. In fact, the ruder and weirder, the better. Either respond here or if you are really feeling spicy shoot me a DM. Friends. This one took a minute.

Months of searching for the right diamond. Not too big, not too small. Eventually having one custom cut.

Was aiming for a I-J color, ended up with an S-T. We went back and forth over whether it was too warm.

We started with two setting ideas. Changed them both in favor of this classic Lodestone setting.

Then I fiddled around with the basket, adding gold, trying out black rhodium plating (which I loved and will be making for myself soon!)

The end result: a 5.09 carat Old European Cut diamond in rose gold. Hated to see her leave, but glad she’s going to such an awesome person.

As always, I’m astounded and honored when you choose me for projects like these. And if I only ever make jewelry with champagne diamonds and rose gold for the rest of my days I’m good with that. 🤓

A normal person would look at six Sunroof bezel rings and say, “Surely that’s too many.”

My people (that’s you all) would maybe say, “Okay, yes, that’s a very respectable number of Sunroofs.”

White gold. Yellow gold. Rose gold. Satin finish. Ovals. Rounds. A nice juicy OEC. We have range. We have options. We have, technically speaking, plenty.

But unfortunately I am not a normal person.

Because when I look at these, I can’t help but see gaps in the lineup. I see opportunity. Where are the fancy colors? Why no pillowy Old Mine Cut cushion? Maybe a north-south oval? What about step cuts or rose cuts? Can I put an angular shape in there and keep the soft curves?

Anyway, this is The Sunroof — my favorite bezel ring, apparently now a full-blown addiction. Please validate this behavior so I can continue unchecked.

The reason I love making custom jewelry (and also the reason I don’t do it every day) is that I’m not designing for “most people.” I’m designing for one person. And it’s even better when the person is someone I genuinely like, and who pushes me outside of my comfort zone.

I’m not going to lie - this ring took MONTHS. Every decision we made was intentional and thoroughly litigated. The proportions and color of the diamond, the architectural angles of setting, the blocky details between the bands - all of it was thought and sketched and re-thought and re-sketched until it was exactly as it should be.

The warm diamond trend is fascinating, my friends.

People who come to me to buy a diamond for someone else almost always gravitate toward icy white stones. But when people are choosing a diamond for themselves? More often than not, they ask to see champagne, cognac, and light brown tones. The most popular request I get these days is for antique cut lab diamonds with color grades of H and lower.

There’s something about those warmer colors that feels a little more personal. Less “bridal standard,” more “I am one of one.”

Hi all - just want to give a shout out and how I'm OBSESSED with my new ring from soriano - top notch service, 11/10 would recommend if you need some sparkle in your life!! Sorry for my terrible photo skills, it cannot accurately convey how gorgeous this ring is!

Here’s my hot take for today: pink diamonds are for the quiet luxury crowd.

I know it sounds backwards. I know pinks are rarer and usually more expensive, so logically they should feel more… extra. For a long time I thought pink diamonds were only for the girliest of girlie girls, but then again, I also felt that way about heart shaped diamonds once (let’s not discuss my growing problem with heart shaped diamonds.) Also, I used to feel the same way about rose gold and now it’s basically my favorite.

The thing is, on my skin, the right shade of pink diamond reads almost neutral, especially when set in warm yellow gold. I still see sparkle, obviously, but not that super bright white “hello yes this is a large diamond” effect that colorless stones can have.

Like… my white OEC is making an entrance, record-scratch and all, while the pink version is a little softer, a little quieter, while still being very chic about it. If I’m going to run into my ex, I want to be wearing the colorless boulder, but if I’m going out with my girls I’m going with pink. Or champagne.

Am I alone in this? Do pink diamonds feel more subtle to you, or do you automatically read them as more flashy because they’re pink/rarer/more unusual? Am I just not self-aware about my own Barbification?

Don’t worry friends - I haven’t totally fallen into lace and ruffles. I still don’t own any princess cut solitaires. (Although lately this is starting to feel more like a challenge I’d like to take on.)

I love finding brilliant cut trapezoids to match a center radiant. The proportions balance each other perfectly without fighting for attention, and it gives 360 degree sparkle.

This setting is one of my favorites. It’s bold, but still classic. And it stacks flush with most bands, too.

This exact ring is finished and in stock (size 7), but like most things around here, it can also be customized with your own spin — different center stone, different proportions, different vibe.

My very first lab diamond I ever bought was a pear halo ring (that I still have and love, btw, although I don’t wear it often these days.) I feel like pears have the best of both worlds - chunky and elongated - and always have amazing sparkle.

So on this finally sunny day in Northern California, enjoy some funky pears: all in the 2ct range.

I’ve been on a pendant kick lately so I think most of these would be perfect for pendants or even fixed on a necklace, but idk. I’ve never really been much of a moi et toi girl but some of the fun colors would really work well in that style.

Well friends, it finally happened. I found a NEW diamond that is officially the prettiest diamond I’ve ever seen. Narrowly replacing this gorgeous emerald cut diamond with clipped corners, this newcomer is absolutely breathtaking and I have never seen her peer.

Listed as Modified Octagon Step Cut on the cert, she is a fancy brown, 6.02ct VVS2 antique cut Asscher, complete with an open culet and an ever so slightly elongated ratio of 1.07.

I am listing her for sale to save myself from setting her, but honestly, I probably will anyway. I think she would look stunning in rose gold, or deep 18 karat yellow gold.

For anyone interested, the measurements are 10.49 x 9.76 x 6.85 mm and the IGI certificate number is LG774637062.

Ok, it's raining here and I was going to wait to post this until the sun came out, but I just can't wait to share.

I found Soriano Custom here on Reddit, saw a stone she had on her website, and the rest is history. I've wanted a stone exactly like this, in a setting exactly like this, for the past 15+ years. Never pulled the trigger because I never came across the right stone.

Well, here we are! The stone is a 3.58ct E lab OMC set in platinum with trapezoids and tapered bullets. I cannot believe this ring is mine, it turned out even better than I could have ever imagined.

Carrie was a delight to work with, ever patient through my million CAD changes, and always so helpful and responsive. Coincidentally we even live in the same city so I got to meet up with her! She's even more charming and gracious in person than online, if that's even possible.

Just finished this absolute unit of an eternity band: The Triple E.

11.2 carats of emerald-cut lab diamonds set all the way around in platinum. Long clean steps, endless hall-of-mirrors flashes, and enough finger coverage to be seen from space.

This one was a commission, so it’s already spoken for, but she deserves to be shown off.

Personally I love emerald eternities because of their slow, hypnotic flash as the steps catch the light. That said, this one is absolutely blingy too.
