Iā€™m away from home and jalapeƱos, for some reason, are really hard to come by here. I was finally able to find a supermarket that sold them and decided to have a snack.

What would you say the heat level was? Jalapenos are one of my favorite things. Widely known that in recent years they are generally very low in heat. I still love em but would like some more heat. I often saute them and then scramble eggs with them. Peppers and eggs taste so good together.

More heat? Try Serrano peppers. Same thing, with slightly more heat

I second this. I discovered them about a decade ago, and they taste exactly like jalapenos but much hotter.

Oh yes right you are! Serranos for the win! They're my favorite when I'm not also cooking for people that hate heat. Jalapenos have had so little heat I've been able to get away with using them for meals for my spice-hating fam while having a bit more pep than bells.

Huh? The serrano peppers at my local safeway have literally no heat at all. I saute them up with some salt and seasoning and eat them like popcorn.

Edit: nevermind, wrong pepper in mind haha, yeah Serrano peppers are awesome and hot.

This one in particular was a bit hotter than usually, I picked the ugly one with all the stretch marks and apparently that is an indication of heat level.
I agree, the flavor is amazing and probably my favorite but it could use more heat. I try to eat them raw as I believe cooking them milder.

Sounds like you got a decent one by recent standards! Nice. Yep look for the stretchmarks, but often those are still way milder than jalapenos of the old days.

It really depends on where you get your jalapeƱos. Store-bought, especially ones from chain supermarkets, are a real crap-shoot because they've been bred to be lame so more people will buy them. Your better bet is farmer's market-type sellers (or, of course, growing your own or getting them from a friend who grows them are good options,as well).

I've (even this year) had some jalapeƱos that rival many serranos I've had.

I just moved from Arizona to Texas, and the difference is crazy, in Arizona my old lady told me the jalapenos in the fajitas weren't doing it anymore so I switched to serranos and that was ok, now in Texas she can barely handle the jalapenos and I can tell the difference too (when I'm not using ghost pepper sauces)

I personally donā€™t like my eggs sunny side up, Iā€™d scramble them and dice the jalapenos up into the eggs before they fully cook. But yes I would say this counts!

Strange, not sure if this is an American thing or a my-family thing but we regard sunny side up as the hardest and scrambled as the lazy way.Ā 

Your egg was impressivly cooked and i like the whole slices too.

1 egg, 2 egg white scramble with diced jalapeƱo, shredded 2% cheese, chopped turkey bacon on some multigrain. Favorite healthy breakfast.

I do something like this alot. Sliced seranos and garlic and let em fry in one side till kinda crispy then plop a few eggs in and do em over easy. Always great.

I added salt while cooking and some black pepper after serving, delicious. Was going to do toast but lunch was less than 2 hours away so I skipped it.

I don't see why not. I like to do omelettes when throwing veges or meats with eggs because you can kinda just cram it all in and it just works outĀ
