I remember watching the news about her death, as it was unfolding and how they werenāt even sure at that very moment of her status. My mom and dad were watching intently, my mom particularly does not have any interest in celebrates or anyone outside of her life. But when they announced her being deceased she cried. I didnāt really know who Princess Diana really was at that time, being 13 and also disinterested in celebrity or famous people. But I knew she was special just by the way my mom reacted. š¢

Mine too. We had family members die without it impacting my mom the way Princess Diana did. And on the day of her funeral, my mom pulled like an all-night bender drinking, which was not her style, and I remember she was an absolute wreck watching it on TV. I went to school like a young lad does, came home and it was a legit day of mourning. She never did anything quite like that ever again.

Well there's a dignity royalty. A majesty that precludes the likelihood of assassination. If you were to point a pistol at a king or a queen your hands would shakes as though palsied. Ā But if you did. I can assure you, if you did, that the sight of royalty would cause you to dismiss all thoughts of bloodshed and you would stand... how shall I put it? In awe. I was a teenager as well and remember it too. I remember thinking that people in the US were still awake to hear the news, but people in the UK would wake up and hear it. And I was so sad for them. She was such a beacon of goodness.Ā

She was close friends with Jimmy Saville for years...
I get that she's beloved for bucking trends and how she dealt with the abuse of the royal family and media, but I never understood the idolisation.
She was a noble, chose to marry into that family after being in the same social circles and presumably understanding what it entailed, and had some highly suspect associations herself.

You are underselling the good she did. She genuinely did a ton for humanizing AIDS patients and helped bring attention to the threat of landmines leftover from conflicts. You can say this is the bare minimum, but none of the other royals were doing it. I've not seen evidence that she was aware of Saville's depravity.
If your point is you don't generally believe in hero worship as a concept and particularly not inlaced with an institution like the British Monarchy, then that's perfectly reasonable.

I remember the depth of her touching a child without gloves on was a huge upset. It was her level of kindness and compassion. She did not view people as ādirtyā š„¹

I agree that monarchies are obsolete. But the post was about someone, loved by millions for being a genuinely good person, doing something fun and unexpected because she wanted to be a mother for her sons. To immediately go into 'all monarchies suck and are obsolete' when that wasn't the point being presented is simply uncalled for under what was meant as a positive post.

Ho adorato la regina Elisabetta seconda e anche la prima Elisabetta Tudor , di cui ho letto molto.
Ora vedi lady Dyana , sarebbe stata una figura di luce e di grazia , secondo me e forse avrebbe dato al mondo con le sue apparizioni pubbliche un qualcosa ,che gli attuali personaggi pubblici, non danno.
Immagina lady Diana vicino a Trump o Melania o Musk o Putin o altri , lei avrebbe rappresentato qualcos'altro .

There's no royal protocol about royalty being forbidden from egg and spoon races on sports day. The press will invent all kinds of royal protocols to frame a beloved royal like Diana as a Disney princess willing to break the stuffy rules to bring joy to the hearts of the common people, or to frame Meghan as an attention-seeking outsider dishonouring tradition.

Not into the whole tabloid/celebrity stuff around her, but i just like her. Did not care about expectations of her behavior. I donāt really know how to say it, but she just did what she wanted, and was most likely killed for it by the royal family.

One involved housing insecurity, the other time, all I wanted was a sandwich from my favorite shop, and not only did I not get it, the day was a bunch of other visit.
When I was in junior high, I was at my best friend's house. We frequently drew together for fun, but this time, we were drawing the same picture.
We were still working on it even his mom came in the room screaming that we had to watch what was on TV, and it was Di bleeding out while we watched.
We were grossed out that she wanted us to see that, so we went back to his room to keep drawing.
When we saw what we were drawing, we balled it up and never drew in each other's presence ever again.

Dodi hadn't been publicly declared dead yet, but I shot up in bed. It was a huge shock.

She ran well! And though she's gone that was a really cool moment for anyone that participated I think. Imagine sitting around for a family gathering or something and you can tell the story of how you ran a race against a princess of a sovereign nation. Kinda cool to think about!
