Opinion Is there any Rugby stats you wished was available or focused more on in our game?

Hey everyone, are there any stats you wished was highlighted more in the rugby world? For example, in match day reporting and analysing the games, I hardly see anyone discuss points per 22m entry. Or percentage of kicks regathered (more the total amount of kicks).

Is there anything else you think would add more depth and value to our game?

*In full disclosure, myself and my partner are building a rugby app called Blitz Rugby and are looking for this feedback so we can use it in our product rollout.

SpringbokWomen Springbok Women training squad assembled for the Black Ferns test

Post image
29 Upvotes

Sixteen players from the match-23 that faced the Black Ferns in their previous encounter – in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Rugby World Cup just under a year ago in England – have been included in the squad for this historic clash.

Sanelisiwe Charlie, Micke Gunter, Danelle Lochner, Logan Welman, Unam Tose, Jakkie Cilliers and Aphiwe Ngwevu, all of whom missed the recent trip to Fiji following rest and recovery protocols, are back in the squad.

However, Nadine Roos, Sinazo Mcatshulwa, Eloise Webb and Anathi Qolo are unavailable due to injury, while Lerato Makua has been included, although she is unlikely to be fit for the Test.

The match-23 will be named on Thursday.

Rassie Things I feel a lot of pundits and podcast hosts are missing the point of Rassie's frustration.

A lot of people are saying that the reason Rassie clapped back is because Rennie 'got in his head'. Some even go as far as saying that the Boks are rattled because their tactics were exposed.

I think Rassie articulated very well that he didn't mind the banter, but he did mind how it affected the game.

For me the problem is that the first thing the ref said to the Bomb squad (Literally before their first scrum even set) is 'don't walk around', which is what Rennie has been saying they do the whole week.

Imagine if you bring on a replacement kicker and before his first kick the ref says 'Remember you only have a minute to kick.' because the other team complained the kickers take to long.

The banter also seemed to affect scrum resets as more often than not, when if collapsed the scrum was reset rather than a penalty.

Seems to be a lot of people who pearl clutch at Rassie's language (They should wat Chasing the sun to see how colorful language can get in the changing rooms XD) but his frustration wasn't at Rennie saying stuff, but at how that stuff was affecting his players and the game.

I think most see Rassie as a 'bok vir sports' but he does not like it when shenanigans off the field affects his players.

Rugby stadium etiquette

I went to the game on Saturday and was left very unimpressed by attendee etiquette. Since when is it okay to get up and push past everyone seated during Cheslin’s kicks, a scrum, a line out being thrown in? In the past people always waited for a break in play to move around so they don’t block other peoples view. At one point, a guy with a box of drinks (yes, a box) that was dripping everywhere pushed through to his seat right in the middle of a line out.

I was actually driven a bit mad by all the moving around, it was impossible to concentrate - it was as though I was at a festival or concert not a rugby match. Am I just being a boring old person?

Hypocrisy

After Rassie lost his cool in that recent post-match interview, I’ve seen a lot of talk in the last few days of Rennie “moaning/whinging” about refereeing, trying to “manipulate world rugby,” and being a “snake,” for talking openly about his interpretation of the Springbok scrum tactics.

Did Rassie not release a video in 2021 “moaning” about referee Nic Berry for 62 minutes?

Did Felix Jones not publicly question All Black tactics before they even played the first match at Ellis Park?

Seems to be a rather extreme lack of self-awareness here, no?

South African scrum

Guys can someone with more knowledge of the dark arts explain to me what’s going on?

Where did our scrum dominance go yesterday?

Is it really as the all black media would have you believe that our dominance comes from walking around? What was the ref policing tonight that removed our dominance?

Im not inclined to fully believe in any narrative and Im just curious what some of you with more understanding or knowledge of scrummaging can say about this?
