GAMEPLAY How does that not work yet!!

So I wanted to haul some cargo in my Hermes. Got to the station, bought my cargo and let it auto-load. Got back to the terminal and retrieved the ship, take the elevator to my hangar and surprise the piece of ship ship clipps halfway through the hangar floor. Try to store and retrieve it again. Nope, it’s fucking gone and all cargo with it (about 700,000 UEC). This type of thing probably has been posted hundreds of times, but how do simple gameplay mechanics still don’t work? So frustrating and just makes you don’t want to play.

wait until you find out about StarMap and route creation...

It's been better this patch but not perfect. Would prefer one like E:D: quick switch to nav screen in cockpit, then filtered locations. It's so fast and easy.

Reserve the holo map for a holo table.

point is, that current StarMap still not fullfiling its primary function - creating a route. It does not work.

Took them 10 years and like 900 mil. $ to replace starmap, that didnt work, with starmap that does not work, but looks nice.

2 more years i guess.

StarMap is a mapping tool - it displays maps.

Routing is a related function, but it's not handled by StarMap, it's handled by a separate service... one that hasn't been significantly touched since it was added for v2.0, iirc

As with so much of the game, CIG have talked about the changes they want to make to Routing and Route Planning... but it's not a priority because the current system works 'well enough' (for an Alpha), so they focus on the systems that either just don't exist, or are so broken that they have no choice but to work on them.

Routing doesn't work with the Starmap? I've been doing loads of delivery chains and the star map routing has been perfect without fail, probably +50 deliveries? Between being able to search by name or just route by tracked quest has not failed once.

i have logged after about 2 years 4 days ago to try new instance content.

I spawned on the planet next to orison.

I had to make 3 separate routings and QT jumps to get to Orison.

This is not how it is supposed to work.

3

u/Tricky-Routine-9838 17h ago

Did you try routing directly to Orison? Were you in your ships seat when trying to route? It won't route to an obscured planet location (which Orison is for most of Stanton) if you're not sitting in a powered up pilots seat, it will just say the route is obstructed.

Otherwise I've routed to Orison from every major Stanton hub this week with just one click.

i was in powered ship in space and i tried to route to my quest destination, if thats not what it should be doing after 1 bilion dollars and 14 years, then wtf

u/Daftpunk67 crusader 16h ago

Literally type “Orison” in the map search bar, click on it, then tap “R” to route. It works all the time now.

I stopped playing for about four or five years. It was really bad then but at least it works sometimes now.

Seeing more of you playing and spending more time in the ‘verse has been incredibly rewarding for all of us at CIG.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/comm-link/transmission/21301-Letter-From-The-Chairman

CR doesnt care if you are stuck in a elevator or having the time of your life.

Playtime is playtime.

u/7htlTGRTdtatH7GLqFTR 17h ago

this is why i refuse to log in to the live environment. the game sucks enough to not play. so i wont play. fuck CIG's player stats. not only no money until s42 or release or whatever, but since time is money, NO PLAYTIME EITHER.

1

u/Dabnician Logistics 8h ago

Playtime, streaming, etc is exposure which is worth more than buying ships in some cases.

Even streamers like saltemike are doing them a favor even if he is actively bashing the game. Same with camural, all they are doing is free advertising

Starmap sucks

4

u/somedude210 nomad 19h ago

Still 1000x better than what we used to have. Starmap works 90% of the time without issue now. You were lucky if it was 50% working with minor bugs

4

u/Tricky-Routine-9838 18h ago

I'm convinced that most people don't know they can search the locations from the star map, makes using it super easy. That and using the tracked quest to auto-route to specific markers. I've not had issues with that working for a while now, has made chained deliveries a lot easier.

3

u/somedude210 nomad 18h ago

Right? The starmap is incredible now. And that's not even including the local map it has.

Like the people complaining about the star map don't use it or don't know how to use it

1

u/Tit4nNL cRuSaDeR iNdUsTrIeS 18h ago

Right? The starmap is incredible now.

Compared to before maybe. It a bunch of issues still, but they're not tooo crazy to deal with. But calling it incredible is wild to me.

3

u/somedude210 nomad 18h ago

Compared to before? Oh hell yeah.

I've used it to guide friends through an onyx facility by watching them move through the map in real time. That's just fucking awesome and something we didn't have before.

Like the bugs that come with it are annoying but not deal breaking. The bugs we had with the old system made it unusable

1

u/Tit4nNL cRuSaDeR iNdUsTrIeS 16h ago

Yeah the new features themselves are cool and I would use them if it was a little more smooth experience like it would be awesome if you could set a route to a place in pyro and it will guide you to the pyro gateway for example. The local map is pretty cool and it also looks cool I don't think I've ever looked at it though.

Got back to the terminal and retrieved the ship, take the elevator to my hangar

Never call a ship from public terminals, always call it from hangar.

10

u/Felix_Flip 20h ago

Thanks 🙏

12

u/Few_Mud_5289 20h ago

And if you have to call it from the lobby to spawn a hangar, store it again before taking the elevator to your hangar.

9

u/FrozenChocoProduce Connie 4 life, Zeus, Starlancer, ... 20h ago

This can now lead to another bug where it is stuck on "storing" forever...I haven't checked if they got that one ironed out for 4.10 though.

5

u/Papadragon666 19h ago

So basically never call a ship from public terminals, but if you have to, then store the ship before taking the elevator, but then you are still fucked because the ship will be stuck while storing.

I suppose you then have to clap your hands while removing and putting your helmet on 7 times in a row to avoid that last bug.

As CR said best : this is bullshit.

I hate that we as a playerbase have evolved to fear our own hangars 😅

All of us who’ve played for years know this workaround and it’s pretty much a golden rule now but the fact that we have to do it all the time is so cringe. Imagine explaining it to new players especially during Free Fly.

This is probably one of the top known bugs in the game and there’s no sign it’s on anyone’s list for a scheduled fix. Just rumors that it’s part of “transit 2.0” or something - we don’t know. We just have to live with this innate distrust of every system we interact with. It’s almost as if the philosophy of the game is for its citizens to suffer during each interaction with the universe.

5

u/Few_Mud_5289 19h ago

life is suffering, playing SC is just the cherry on top.

Can also happen in hangar asop, but not as common.

5

u/pipmentor 19h ago

Always a good sign when you need to remember a workaround for basic game mechanics.

-2

u/imchillybro 17h ago

Always a good sign when you need a rememinder, even after clicking the warning about unstable alpha software, over-and-over-and-over, that it's an unstable platform in an unstable state. There will be bugs, not can be but absolutely will be. There may be system instability caused by systems that are not fully functioning or just plain broken.

You click that button every single time you login. You clicked it when you purchased the starter pack.

And, yet, here we are 'eh?

Needing to know workaounds is a MUST for playing in an alpha or beta playground.

Over a billion dollars, which is more money than a majority of games make in their lifetime, and they can't fix a bug that's been there for almost ten years. Stop being a corporate apologist.

1

u/OriginTruther origin 15h ago

Unless its the prospector, then you call it from the lobby terminals.

1

u/Tilting_Gambit 11h ago

Why? What's the deal?

1

u/Walltar 11h ago

You have much higher chance of it bugging out and being unrecoverable if you call it from lobby, than when you call it from hangar.

Like having our ship spawn sideways, half inside of a pad. That is happens much more when you call your ship from a lobby.

It's a sleep paralysis/dissociative nightmare disorder simulator.

4

u/LoftyPlays1 20h ago

Yeah, when you landed at that station you were assigned a hanger. You don't have to call your ship from the ASOP to get to your hanger. Go to your hanger then call your ship. Sorry about the bad luck. Try this and hope for the best o7

u/Felix_Flip 20h ago

Will do o7

I know the feeling….i just logged off

3

u/Odom12 11h ago

Imagine you still have to drink a bottle of water to stay alive in the game and you can't even get rid of it without using workarounds.

I have the same issue as you as well since the 4.10. Log into the game, buy commodity and let it autoload. Every single time afterwards my Retrieve buttons are greyed out for all ships, whether in the hangar or outside terminal. I have to relog. Then I can get the ship, fly to destination and sell.
There I autoload again, have to relog, etc....

And the autoload and unload for the Hull is still not working....

8

u/sloppy_steaks22 19h ago

Can you stop complaining and just buy an Idris already

5

u/Felix_Flip 18h ago

Will that fix it?

Strange, haven't seen this for many months/years anymore. It seems to depend on the ship and if it is loaded or not (changes mass and flight behavior). I'm taking out Starlancer Max, Prospector and Vulture regularly. But I'm still very aware and fearful of this bug. To save time, I almost always call from the lobby ASOPs, but then look for the ship marker to appear and if it stands still (else store again). As it seems, you shouldn't enter elevator until the ship is spawned. Also, physics calculations are more rough at a greater distance. If I follow these things, I never have a problem.

Storing the ship from lobby is never a problem.

Both save time since you don't have to wait for the hangar animations.

But if you often experience ship clipping, yes, retreive from hangar.

Edit: I did not want to answer just "it works for me". Here I tell what you can do that it works from lobby ASOP really well. I'm searching for ways all the years because my favorite loop is commodity trading with autoload.

theres always one guy in the comments like "works on my computer idk skill issue i guess"

so dont play. just dont log in. this is not a defense of the game, and this is not saying "you dont know alpha blah blah". i mean if the game isnt good enough to play, vote with your player login stats that CIG seems to care about so much recently, and refuse to log in and play. the bonus to this is you get to spend your time doing something else, such as other better video games that do things better, like... well anything really.
