Which made me wonder if prime Starfleet has transwarp beaming by the late 24th century why would they still have ships in later centuries?

Same could he said for the jj Abrams timeline would they even need ships by the 24th century?

They could beam across the galaxy like Stargate

Is anyone else's paramount plus missing the first two seasons of ds9? Or is it just me? How do I fix it?

It had been ages since I’d seen the 2009 JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot and so last night I sat down with my friend to watch. He’s not typically a sci-fi fan and had never seen it before.

We were both pretty blown away by how well it has stood the test of time. It was even better than I remembered: a fantastic cast, tight plotting, a pitch-perfect musical score and great special effects.

It is, simply put, a near-flawlessly executed origin story that sets up the whole premise brilliantly — the final scene with the voiceover from Leonard Nemoy is magical. Afterwards, my friend said he couldn’t believe he’d never seen it. (Sadly, the film sets such a high bar that it’s hard not to notice now how much the sequels only seemed to go downhill.)

Putting aside Abrams’ patchy record ever since, I’m interested to know what others think the 2009 film? Has anyone else also watched it recently and how do you view it in retrospect? And how well do you feel it captured the true spirit of Star Trek?

One thing I really appreciated this time round was how well it captures that exciting sense of being part of a largely inexperienced team/crew who still have to prove themselves. The film is peppered with great scenes where people come together to solve problems with ingenuity - when they are empowered and trusted to do so.

A friend of mine sent this video to me two days ago. I've been watching/listening to it ever since. Because I am a fossil, I was 14 when "Shattered" was released and it was one of the first Stones songs I got to experience when it was hot off the presses, not years later. And I've been a TOS fan since 1972 - practically an OG. So I see this as a marriage made in heaven.

Whoever made this video not only has an encyclopedic knowledge about TOS, but he also knows this song in and out, so his parody lyrics are brilliantly clever and funny.

"Shatnered" was written and performed by Mark Jonathan Davis, who evidently re-watched all 79 episodes of the original "Star Trek" TV series to edit together this music video. I'd like to thank him for his service.

As per the title really, would you be interested if Tomy released a 1:350 Reliant to pair with the 1:350 Refit Enterprise, I personally think it would be awesome.

So I’ve been watching Star Trek(s) throughout the last 60 years, but my ladyfriend (pretty much we’re the same age) never did. Maybe because she had daughters and not sons?

I’ve browsed through similar threads here, and maybe it’s my ADHD, but I do want to start her on some TOS, and not TNG, as some suggest.

Realistically, not all, but a collection of the best. Suggestions? Of course, City on the Edge of Forever is already on my list.

I feel bad because DS9 is now considered some of the best trek and I know a lot of people love voyager but I could never get into those shows. I’ve seen TNG way too many times to count and that is my absolute favorite show other than Strange New Worlds. I’m I alone on this?

I think this was deeper than we give it credit for. This episode wasn't just about silly puppets. It's about how Spock subconsciously sees his crew mates: Soft and helpless.

Spock is physically stronger than everyone else. He's smarter than everyone else. When the computer isn't working, he's the one doing complex calculations in his head. Radiation? Send in Spock!

In his nightmare, Spock is running himself ragged trying to help the crew perform the simplest tasks. It's just a reflection of his day-to-day reality.

Was it ever explained in canon why the NX-01 was so flat in profile? I would've thought that the concept artists would go the route of having a secondary hull from the get-go for ease of maintenance and such.

Starship Mine and Lessons: first we see Picard do a Die Hard, and then we see him tender and in love? Man, I do not want my Next Gen journey to end.

Let's say, after the Borg time travel to April 4, 2063, instead of firing on Montona, the Borg Sphere looks for the Vulcan Scout Ship to destroy it, making First Contact impossible even if Zephram Cochrane launched the Phoenix.

I had always thought of "Engage!" as a Picard thing, though Pike may have said it in "The Cage" (there were some recycled Cage elements in TNG: "Number One," etc.).

I've been on a TOS rewatch and was stunned when Kirk said it near the end of The Naked Time. I never remembered Kirk giving any kind of command like that. He usually just said, "Sulu, Warp 7" and Sulu went warp 7.

Are there other times when Kirk has used this or similar commands?

Who knows if this Trek movie gets made (cue emoji shrug)…

Back in July the pair talked about how they were writing the script for their Star Trek movie and this week while out promoting their new Cold War action comedy Mayday, Daley and Goldstein gave Inverse an update, saying their Star Trek story takes place “almost in real time” and focuses on how even the best institutions can be undone by a little corruption. They also said they compare their premise to two specific films, the 2001 crime thriller Training Day and the 1995 submarine action movie Crimson Tide. Each is about an experienced commanding officer and a younger second-in-command who is more by-the-book working together on a tight timeline to take down a big threat, plus a third act twist. And both happen to star Denzel Washington, although the pair didn’t mention if they had a role in mind for the actor.

Daley told Inverse:
“I would say it’s really kind of a look at the institution of Starfleet and any institution as a whole that has existed for a long time and what that does. I think the portrayal of Starfleet and the people that work within it have always been generally idealized versions of what the future could be. And while this [script] isn’t a cynical or nihilistic take on it, I think it does acknowledge that there are some bad apples in every institution that can have a strong voice and can really make an impact on that institution and everything it stands for.”

This might be a complete shot in the dark, but the people at AtmosFX used to have a set of Star Trek digital projection decorations under the title Star Trek: Beam Me Up.

Went looking today to see about obtaining them for an event I'm running in October and it appears that the title has been dropped or discontinued from AtmosFX.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get hold of a copy of these files?

You can get the complete series of DS9 for $15 (in the US presumably) on fandango at home (formerly vudu)

The TOS bundle is $60 for some reason but the individual seasons are on sale for $5, $10 and $10 respectively so you could get the whole series for $25

Didn't seem like there were any exceptional deals on anything else.

Don't work for them, not trying to advertise but those two are the reason I keep Paramount+ when a new series isn't coming out so I was excited to see them cheap.

Hello I was having a conversation with a friend, and i was explaining to him how people in the federation do things because for personal improvement and desire to become better. But i was thinking, are stories about lazy people or social outcasts in the federation that don´t have that drive initially but later they discover it?

I absolutely loved the hell out of this episode! It was one of the episodes where they really did something unique with Troi by putting her in a near-combat position. I really liked the fact that the intentions and feelings of the Romulan ship's commander, while close to her own, were ones she could not express her agreement with due to the Romulan persona Troi was putting on. Seeing her be extra cruel to the poor Romulan commander who actually was surprisngly close in thinking to the dissidents was a beautifully evocative bit of drama.
