Question/Tech Support Black screen in games and youtube in desktop mode

Hi

My Steam Deck is used mostly in Desktop Mode connected via original dock. I'm jumping between TV and monitor. So far everything was flawless but since two days while on monitor I'm often getting black screen in games and when turning on full screen on youtube. I can hear the sounds etc, just no visuals. When I alt tab its going back to normal. Sometimes is just temporary and picture turning on and off, sometimes it's just black, sometimes it's working like nothing is wrong. When I just browse or watch youtube on normal window everything is great, its only with full screen when problems can occur.

I used Decky in the past but not in a while and only for vibrant deck, so I uninstalled it as I've seen some posts that it can cause black screens, I also changed HDMI - still the same problem.

I'm out of ideas as monitor is working great with all my consoles, and also with SD outside games and full screen on yt. I don't seem to have this problem on TV. Does anyone know solution to this? Its extremely annoying and I'd rather not factory reset my deck. Cheers

Community Guide How to fix Ridge Racer 7 performance in RPCS3

For me, on default settings, Ridge Racer 7 in RPCS3 was running half speed.

I fixed it by setting "Preferred SPU Threads" in the "CPU" section of the custom game configuration for RR7 to "3" instead of "auto".

Hope this helps anyone stumbling upon this problem!

Question/Tech Support building a fast FPS roguelite and targeting 60fps on handhelds, but I'm not sure people actually want twitch shooters on a portable

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

solo dev. my game is a fast, low-poly FPS roguelite, procedurally generated arenas, hordes of enemies, runs that last maybe 20 to 30 minutes. I've been spending real time getting it to hold 60fps on handheld-class hardware without melting the battery.

the art style genuinely helps here. it's deliberately lo-fi so there isn't much to render, and I'd rather spend the frame budget on enemy count than on lighting.

but the thing I keep going back and forth on is whether this is even a genre people want on a portable. every time I look at what people are actually playing on a deck it's slower stuff. cozy games, turn based, big RPGs you can put down mid sentence.

the run structure feels like a decent fit at least. a run is short, you can stop between rooms, and nothing is lost if you just sleep the device halfway through.

do you actually play fast shooters on your deck, or is it mostly slower stuff for you?

and if you had to pick, would you rather have a locked 60fps that eats battery faster, or a 40fps cap with noticeably more playtime? I can ship either but I have to choose a default, and I'd rather choose the one people actually want.

(it's called NULLGATE on Steam, for context, not trying to make this an ad, I'm genuinely stuck on the call)

SDHQ Official Blue Dragon Got A Native PC Port, And It's Fantastic on the Steam Deck

Today, an unofficial native PC port called Re:Blue was released, giving us a chance to play the Xbox 360 exclusive Blue Dragon on modern hardware with enhancements. In this case, we have graphical options, higher framerate and aspect ratio support, and it runs decently on the Steam Deck.

It will hit 30 FPS and drain around 14W - 16W of battery (so about 3-3.5 hours of battery life). It does have an issue where the game won't run at framerates higher than 30, and trying to set it higher will make the device try to push more frames and drain more battery. However, the game's framerate doesn't change, so it's better to set a 30 FPS cap for right now.

You will need legally dumped copies of your own version of Blue Dragon, but it works well, supports the DLC, and is just a treat to be able to play this game on the Deck.

SDHQ Official Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Should Not Be Played On The Steam Deck For Right Now

Thumbnail

Ahead of its release, we reviewed Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and got some mixed results.

It runs at 30 FPS most of the time, but CPU usage can be high and cause some stutters here and there. It isn't the end of the world, and it will stick to 30 FPS most of the time, but it does pop up often enough and will bring the battery drain up.

However, I can't recommend it just yet because it has a major crashing issue. At the beginning of Chapter 9, the game will completely freeze. I believe this is due to high CPU and GPU usage, and it's definitely a game issue (the crash also occurs on the Steam Machine). So, until that is fixed, I would avoid playing on the Deck.

Emulation SteamOS - SteamDeck. Decky Plugin "Dimensions Toypad".

QUICK EDIT:

https://gofile.io/d/Zohmb9w9

Uninstall and reinstall. Updated plugin with new overlay system and led reads. Shrunk appimage. Enjoy. LED rendering and decoding on deck css was ROUGH. (Updating repo within the next couple days).

LEGO Dimensions on Steam Deck is becoming a lot more practical!

I've been working on an all-in-one Steam Deck/Decky integration for LEGO Dimensions that brings the virtual Toypad directly into the Steam Gaming Mode experience.

Repository:

https://github.com/SpiderNic96/dimensions-toypad-aio

The project combines:

🎮 Decky Loader plugin with a 7-slot Toypad interface

💡 Live Toypad LED colour/flash visualisation

🧱 LOAD / MOVE / REMOVE / CLEAR figure controls

📱 The LegoToypad web UI for using a phone as a Toypad controller

🖥️ A bundled, patched RPCS3 Linux AppImage

🚀 Steam shortcut/launcher generation

🔧 Setup diagnostics and runtime verification

🎮 Steam Gaming Mode / Gamescope-friendly launching

The goal is basically to make LEGO Dimensions feel much closer to a native handheld experience rather than having to constantly switch between emulator windows, Toypad tools and desktop-mode utilities.

.

This builds on the recent Toypad work from Harry / LegoToypad and NeverCookFirst / RPCS3 Seamless Toypad, rather than replacing those projects. The AIO project is essentially trying to bring the pieces together into a coherent Steam Deck experience.

Current status: playable and actively being developed. There are still things I'm working on, including expanding emulator support and improving the overall setup/build process.

🎧 Cemu development & 60 FPS goal

One of today's biggest developments has been identifying and implementing fixes for gameplay dialogue and SFX in Cemu. The current work addresses the Cemu audio mixer/filtering and stereo output behaviour that causes gameplay audio to differ from the otherwise-correct cutscene audio.

This is also the beginning of the project's Cemu variance work — establishing a properly tested Cemu configuration specifically for LEGO Dimensions rather than treating the current emulator behaviour as fixed.

The reason we're particularly interested in Cemu is performance: compared with RPCS3, Cemu should require substantially less system power to emulate the Wii U version, giving the Steam Deck more potential performance headroom. The longer-term goal is therefore to see whether a properly tuned Cemu/Toypad implementation can get us closer to a consistent 60 FPS experience on Deck.

Question/Tech Support Windows Pc game to Steam Deck?

So possibly a silly question, apparently I’m not great at this kind of tech.

My kids want to play Minecraft Dungeons with me - and I figured it would be easier if they had the Xbox and I went on my Deck, so without thinking too hard about it, I purchased a pc key for it, redeemed it via Microsoft, and now can’t figure out how to actually install it on my Steam Deck 🤦‍♀️

I have tried downloading it onto pc, and then added it as a ‘non steam game’, however when I try launching it from my Steam Deck it only lets me ‘stream’ from my pc.

Any tips? Have I wasted my money 😅
Thanks in advance

News I Built a Steam Hours Boosting Platform, Looking for Feedback

Hey everyone,

Today I'm introducing SharpyBoost.com, a Steam hours boosting platform built for users who want a simple and modern way to increase playtime hours and farm trading cards.

Let's be transparent from the start.

SharpyBoost isn't the first solution of its kind. Steam users have been using tools such as ASF, Idle Master Extended and similar software for years. Those tools work great and remain a valid option.

SharpyBoost was created for users who prefer a cloud based solution managed through a web dashboard.

What SharpyBoost offers:

• Increase playtime hours on your Steam games

• Card farming support

• Multiple games at once

• Works even when your PC is turned off

• Simple web dashboard

• Free and Premium plans available

Regarding security, SharpyBoost is built specifically for hours boosting and card farming. The platform has no interest in accessing or stealing user accounts. All sensitive account data is encrypted, and every user should always keep Steam Guard enabled through both mobile and email protection.

Thousands of Steam users already trust third party tools and services for idling. SharpyBoost aims to provide another reliable option with a modern interface, active development and a free plan for anyone who wants to try it.

Thumbnail

The crash on Steam Deck when opening the Virtual Keyboard in Skyrim Special Edition has been fixed, so as far as I am aware, it should be perfectly playable on the Steam Deck now.

Here's the changelog from today's update:

Added and Updated Features

Game

  • Increased mod storage to 15 GB for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox.
  • Added localized strings fixes for UI and platform terminology.
  • A Creation’s Details page now includes instructions on how to report abusive or problematic mods.
  • Added bundling of Creations in the Skyrim Creations Menu to bring it to parity with Fallout and Starfield.
  • Changed storefront UI to support Creations box art at 3640 x 900 and 900 x 506 to be consistent with Starfield and Fallout 4. Older image sizes will still be supported and do not require immediate resubmission.
  • Added support to sort Creation categories by "Most Popular".
  • Creations flagged as WIP can now be viewed when bookmarked.

Creation Kit

  • Added Localization export support.
  • Updated "Search and Replace" to align with Starfield, adding buttons for "Select Form in Object Window" and "Open Form Editor".
  • Creation Kit will now allow multiple master loads by default. This can be configured as normal.
  • Skyrim Creations released through the Verified Creators program will have the option to be Achievement-Friendly (Xbox) and Trophy-Friendly (PlayStation). This means that certain Creations will no longer block achievements, but it requires starting a new game for this functionality to work on updated Creations.
  • Bink files can now be added to Creation uploads via an Extra Files browser.
  • Expanding beyond scripts, archives are now supported on PlayStation. New file types are available (.nif, .dds, .bink, .wav, and .fuz (with embedded .wav)) for PlayStation Creations.

Crashes

Game

  • Fixed a crash when the player opens the Virtual Keyboard on a Steam Deck device.
  • Fixed a crash when the player ‘selects’ an empty search result in the Creations menu.
  • Fixed a crash when the player transforms into a new race.

Creation Kit

  • Fixed a crash when the player closes the dialogue for a Sound Descriptor.
  • Fixed a crash when analyzing loot in a new encounter zone.
  • Fixed a crash when clicking the Make Use Info button on some menus.
  • Fixed a crash that can occur when reloading a mod without an associated Masterfile.

Bug Fixes

Game

  • Free Creations from Verified Creators now correctly appear in the Verified Creators category within the store.
  • Exiting out of Search when viewing a specific Creation now properly returns the player to the Details page of that Creation.
  • Fixed an issue where installed Creations would sometimes display the incorrect version number while on the pause menu.
  • Creations titles should now display with fewer misformatted characters.
  • Resolved an issue where the Creations store would not always update visual pricing when Creations were placed on sale when a player had not changed menus.
  • Resolved an issue where Anniversary Edition Creations failed to auto-download on PlayStation 5.
  • Search strings will no longer clip through text when searching for Creations,
  • The Verified Creator category should now correctly sort by latest and not alphabetical order.
  • Enabling an item in Load Order should now more consistently stick when selected.
  • Deleting all Creations now only clears mods downloaded from the Store and not those loaded via other means.
  • Uploading or restoring a Load Order containing a mod or Creation no longer available on the Marketplace should no longer fail.
  • Uploading or restoring a Load Order containing many mods should no longer fail.
  • The Creations store should now load more efficiently.

Creation Kit

  • Creation Kit now forces consistent capitalization of platform-specific .bsa binaries to avoid runtime errors.
  • Archiving new forms in a plugin which relies on pre-existing assets will no longer cause the pre-existing form to duplicate within the plugin.
  • Fixed an issue where Creation submission can improperly tag a file as a Masterfile causing infinite data reload.
  • Cell forms should now populate correctly across all tabs when accessed via the Cell View window.
  • Altered forms will no longer count as new forms when creating a plugin.
  • Using the Create Archives or Upload process should more consistently apply correct compression to meshes/miscellaneous archives.
  • Browsing ids in the World Spaces window should no longer alter the forms.
  • Resolved error message pop-up when attempting to open the Creation Kit while Bethesda.net services were offline.

Miscellaneous

  • Updated the game credits.
