Questions & Discussion Why does night study works?
At night I am a completely locked in, studying, absorbing all the lectures I’m reading and doing school tasks that I’ve been avoiding for days every night.
I started going to local libraries and cafes at night to study because they’re empty and quiet. The only problem is that I don’t feel safe walking home alone past 10 PM so I always have to leave at 8 PM and go home.
If you’re a night owl like me, here’s what helped me focus while studying at night:
Kill the overhead lights. I used to study under bright ceiling lights, but they oddly made me feel alert in the wrong way. So I switched to using a warm lamp and honestly, the whole vibe changed. It feels different in a good way like I’m focusing more intentionally.
Setting an alarm before studying. I usually set an alarm at 9 PM as my official start time and I treat it like a meeting I can't skip. I think it helps me to study at an exact time because having that trigger time gives my brain a cue.
Work in 50 minute blocks. I study for 50 minutes and take a break for 10 minutes, no exceptions. In order to study effectively I used Anki and notes, so I won’t waste those 50 minutes of studying. Using those together genuinely changed how many topics I retain.
Locking my phone for an hour. Phones are the worst enemy at night especially when everyone is active on social media. So, I use Forest to lock it for at least an hour at a time. Just putting it on silent doesn't work for me because I know I can still pick it up.
Caffeine shot. This is non-negotiable. Before I start locking in, I drink one cup of caffeine and sometimes another one at the halfway point. I know it's probably terrible for my sleep schedule but night studying without coffee is just not happening.
Does anyone else prefer to study at night? To people study at morning, how do you actually study during the day when your brain just refuses to work until a certain time?

Also, there's typically less noise from outside sources.

Maybe because our mind is adjusted to study at night nowadays.
Its been 4 years since I started studying till late night and till now I've not faced any issues other than waking up late. At night I seem to be concentrate more concentrated.

Appreciate the post.
You can trust me on whatever I am about to type right now because it's all experimentally proven by me myself. Altough there is a single condition.
So I have a theory: When brain is in lot of mental stress, it cannot focus/concentrate. Lets come to the part directly where I discuss the condition, which is that before studying you are taking a nap in afternoon or evening. After sleep brain gets all refreshed and relieved from stress. Easily we can conclude that sitting to study in night is because one slept in the afternoon which is why he is stress relieved and thus they can concentrate easily at that hours.

I can’t relate. I’m too tired at night.
So instead I just do something kinda similar where I wake up bright and early at 4 AM to study lmao

I agree with you!! It is a great idea to study at night. It is because the environment is quite at night compared to the morning time. Moreover, We can stay focused at night.

No distractions compared to morning. In the day ,we already have lot of chores and daily routine. Nights are so peaceful ✨. Mostly we don't even realise what the time is until the alarm or sunlight .

I love to practice my physics problems when I wake up at 3 am and can't sleep. Don't mind if I don't absorb it because I enjoy doing it lol

Because I can’t focus when everyone is talking during the day. My ADHD already makes my mind loud, but people too? Ugh

It doesn’t. It will eventually gives you mental health and sleep issues. Try to plan better and finish your work during the day.
