I just started playing it and I think I know the basics .

Like mostly avoid combat (I find that crabs / bats / small boats are the only one that are fair/profitable fights) . Turning off lantern make you harder to detect . There are some trade routes .

I found frostmorn once , Iron republic (it's my favorite place so far) , named wordpull (2 different ones) , salt lions ( it seems as a good way to make money) , I found that I can get a cook at the tombs island , some weird house with 3 sisters. After knowing you won't make it it seems to be a good idea to sell boat and buy best weapon that you can for the next run. Poeat seems to be the best start

- some time I wish to know sooner

That the close near London means anything from a straight short line to a long journey beyond the first sea line . Supply still runs out while in a port . What are the general directions that the island can spawn. Tbh I looked at the map on wiki and I think I get it.

How important are stats , is it worth it to upgrade them , what to prioritize (stats , thing on sea , thing in ports , equipment) , how far is too far , how important are port report ( like is it better to trade or swim around for port reports) .

Hey, fellow Captains. I'm such an idiot, I deserve some shaming.

My special method for quick Echoes when I don't feel enterprising is to get the Isle of Cats unlocked and ship Red Honey like there's no tomorrow.

Cons: it's absolutely unconscionable morally, degrading, brutal, and you have to kidnap an innocent zailor to get there

Pros: no hold space, you make literally 66% profit on every shipment (one per SAY), serious amounts of cheddar compared to the usual coffee/wine/whatever routes

So I get there, give the Bee-Smokers loads of fuel (nice that you can buy it right there), get well in with Zaira, smuggle the tasty stuff to London and give it to the Venturer, get the Medal, return to the Gardens... I think I even gave Zaira one of my own crew (lol, sorry about that Bob!) and then when she offered me The Deal, what did I do? Auto-clicked on the top option and to my horror, realised I'd rejected her deal.

Now I'm locked out forever :( no more wanton profit off the suffering of innocent people having their brains sucked out by psychotic bees... time to get a quick Legacy and then leave it to the next Captain, I think.

I was at the Grand Geode, and my terror was about 75. I clicked the option to speak with someone with higher authority blindly, and it triggered an event that made my terror jump to 100. I panicked; I knew that 100 terror would trigger an event that has an iron or hearts challenge. Since my iron is higher, I dumped all my secrets (10), levelling it up to 85. I go outside the port, and instantly it triggers mutiny. I had a 51% chance of succeeding the iron challenge, and I DID !!! "Aye, mutiny. And what fate befall mutineers?" Now I have to go back to London with 2 crew members; wish me luck.

Frostfound aside, of course (wow, it's such a hugely important base for me: out at sea, Terror in the 40s and rising, low on fuel: lay in at Frostfound, hang out with the Riddlefolk and drink their mushroom tea or whatever it is, lol...)

There are always ports that you feel happy to come home to. I love the Mangrove College; Isle of Cats is also like home for me, spent so much time there. Nuncio is comfortable; and Venderbight kinda feels like a second home after London. Or Iron & Misery, hang out with the Factor, what a dude :)

Then there are the weird ones (I mean not just like Kingeater's) that freak you out for no apparent reason. I never, ever hang around at Chapel of Lights (having previously enjoyed their scarlet hospitality and found it a bit strange), am extremely wary in the Khanate, having previously become so unpopular that I couldn't even use my Nephrite Ring, and Codex is just such a bummer that I tend to avoid it :D who am I kidding, it's all good Port Reports, amirite.

What a fantastic game, amigos and amigas. Am just on the 3rd captain of a new line, having picked up a couple of quick Legacies already; getting serious now, you know, the Neathbow and the Principles of Coral, probably have to sail off the edge of the world at some point too, for the next Legacy.... aiii.

I know I can start it at any time and I know it lets me explorer ALOT more locations with alot more stories but I was wonderful if I should save it for a future captian as i haven't explored much of the base game content

Heres a list of mods I like and why

Sunless stories - more stories and more everything else is actually several huge mods combined together

Fragment rollover fix - Relief from huge frustration of next 150/200 fragments and most of them rolling overboard to be eaten by giant crabs.

Immersive log book - Log book entries are no longer struck in bottom left corner, the appear next to you ship like in Skies. In works between then skies as everything is so dark that the white text always shows up.

The sightless watchman - another officer with a full story of his own

I missed this game after not playing it for years, and decided I want to get the final 4 achievements I'm missing to get 100%, which are 5 and 10 Years at Zee, A Past Wreathed in Shadows, and Romans 6:9. I'm going to start a new game with the immortality ambition and play around a bit to get my fill of the game, fortunately my previous saves are still there so I got all the goodies and bonuses from my previous captains already, then after that I will go for the no past victory, but I'm kinda afraid I will get burned out from the game before then so I want to know what's the easiest and fastest way to get either the kingdom or uttermost east victories to prevent that

got back into Sunless Sea recently (my very favourite game ever) and I'm back on the early-game smuggling Red Honey route. Just need to grind out 3 or 4 missions: huge 66% ROI so it seems by far the best way to fat-stack cheddar till the rubber band breaks.

But what about returning to London, Wolfstack Docks? As I recall it, the bobbies will only get on your case if you have SAY. So is there a place within easy reach of London, 1 minute zailing, where I can get rid of my SAY before returning home?

(Have unfortunately already "burnt down" Hunter's Keep so that's not an option, and Mutton Island has, uhm, "gone weird")

I beat the game with a captain. I reloaded like twice (once when I sold the Lady's Eye, and once when I picked an option that trafficked a guy), but those were hard-resets so I'm pretty sure I still had my invictus token.

After watching 2 mfs turn into moths and keeping one of them, doing great things for the Blemmigan community, filling the Scholar's home with Fluke-Cores, getting a nephrite ring, and smuggling some highly illegal goods... eventually Captain Ted retired to a life of luxury.

What a ride.

The following is from someone that hasn't even started flying in Fallen London yet.

1. unlocking the roof would require a huge quest, about as long an expensive as getting the impeller

2. like with the zub every future captain will have it unlocked

3. You can only go up there is certain places - Gaider's Mourn, Mount Palmerston, visage, the Chelonate, you have to the play for lineage long unlock for each one.

4. You go to brand new map

5. We copy a lot of the ports from the firmament fallen london stories and add a few new ones

6. You have to manage air pressure, damage, events in port and simply time will lower it. If it reaches 0 you fall to the sea, survival is unlikely and expensive, you can end up anywhere with the a terrible Steam Launch

7. The airship as seperate set of vehicles.

8. More place to put Blemmigans.

9. There be a another Barnet.

I asked in the Sunless Skies sub if hunting was viable as a money grinding strat, and the answer was yes. But in this game, you're unlikely to get more than 25 echoes per kill. So...is a tradeless run viable, with no money farming strats beyond hunting? And yes that includes the Salt Lions. If so, who should I be hunting?

1) Where can I find and how do I farm Lorn-Flukes? I saw a post where someone got 22 secrets in 10 15 min from farming Lorn-Flukes.

2) Can I progress both the Immortality and the Aestival ambitions simultaneously without getting locked out of one or the other? I am on merciful mode and want to see both endings.

3) When doing the Empire of Hands storyline I read somewhere that you will "fuck over London". Will I be unable to turn in port reports and will I loose access to the Dark-Spectacled Admiral if I pregress the storyline?

4) Are legacy items universal unlocks that work on any new character or just on the ones from the lineage that unlocked them?

I'm a Fallen London player from way WAY back, but never played thaaat much Sunless Sea. But I've been modding the shit out of everything I can touch the past few months, and reddit served me a post this afternoon where someone mentioned SS could badly do with some QoL mods.

and that's me! the QoL mod guy! so I threw together a proof-of-concept QoL-and-cheats menu, seen above--Mr Eaten's Many Things. Right now it only controls menace gain and fuel, and offers CheatEngine-style time acceleration with toggle and hold keybinds--but there's no real limit with what we could achieve.

so I ask the community: what would you like to see done? a stat editing panel would be a trivial next add, but I want to get more ambitious, too. how can we parameterize and rebalance SS to make it more fun to play?

Posting this to see what other captains think about this and hear if they've been in the same position. I have fulfilled my ambition on my second main playthrough. I'm in London with my father's bones. It took me so long to figure wtf to do that I have grown wealthy and powerful. Just yesterday on a whim, I was able to finish the fuller impeller quest for the first time and now I can zip through the Zee! I don't want to quit anymore as the thought of losing said engine and resetting all my stat points which are now almost all over 100 sounds terrible. At least not before I put it to great use. So I think, maybe I should end this one with a more involved ambition.

However, redoing the Father's Bones ambition later doesn't sound great either since the whole fun was figuring out how to get the King's requests. So I thought...so what? I don't click the button to finish, what do I miss out on? Is there an achievement my next captain would receive?

My first captain wrote the Zong of the Zee. As dumb as it is, I admit I love seeing the "signed copy first edition" in my hold..

What would you do? Stick around or end it?

Would anyone here happen to be familiar enough with old steamships to say what each of the ships, or at least the starter ship is analogous to in real life? I'm trying to do some research but the sense of scale and size for the ships can be a little hard to judge at times so having a real life example to look at would help heh.
