i’m usually just a reddit lurker but i’ve been rewatching supernatural for the past few weeks and it’s really starting to irritate me. i’m on the season 8 finale now and i’m watching the scene where dean is giving sam suggestions on what to confess and the first thing he lists is working with ruby and i’ll give him that (even though sam was being manipulated), but the next three are just ridiculous to me.

1. “killing lilith/letting lucifer out” when killing her was always the plan and nobody knew the actual truth about what her death would do.

2. “losing your soul” as if sam knew he came back from hell without his soul or purposefully went without one. (for this one i get that they probably meant the things he did while soulless but the wording sucks.)

3. “not looking for me while i was in purgatory” as if sam wasn’t being mindfucked by lucifer so bad to the point where he had to start using physical pain as a distraction. as if he wasn’t in the mental hospital and about to die because his soul was so twisted. like just take that n then to top it all off….after the bad guy dies your brother just disappears in front of your face and is presumed dead?? like wtf was he really supposed to do?? they also had the agreement that they wouldn’t go looking for a way to bring each other back and when you bring this up people rebuttal with “dean looked for sam when he went to hell” as if he didn’t do that against sam’s wishes like why are we mad at sam for sticking to their agreement?

i’m really trying my best to not dislike dean and blame the shitty writing but it’s getting stupid now like dean’s allowed to drag out an issue for a whole season but when sam wants to talk about anything and dean doesn’t wanna hear it sam gets punched in the face, quickly shut down, or gaslighted into forgiving. it’s like there can never be any depth into what sam does or feels.

Dean hitting on Daphne and hating on Fred, Velma having a crush on Sam well his shoulders, while Sam being grampy the entire episode and Castiel being teamed up with Shaggy and Scooby. I'm on season 13 at the moment and this top 3 funniest episode so far, for sure.

Spoilers ahead:

I love Dean's character. I really do. Love his character development, where he's at with the story.
But that he doesn't even hear Castiel out or tries to understand that Castiel did not have any bad intentions (at least when it comes to the Brothers and Bobby) when siding with Crowley. Kind disappointed with Dean here.

This is not exactly a theory or anything but I’d like to think that it’d be cool if God/Chuck actually wanted to be defeated by a new God.

We know that God was overwhelmed and disappointed in humans, angels etc so “he left” for a while. But he can never really stop being God, being responsible for his entire creation. So he needs an heir— a better or maybe more hopeful God to take over.

But a new God needs to be tested and prove himself, and this new God candidate (Jack) is close to Castiel and Winchesters, his “parents”. So Chuck needs to use them to reveal Jack’s true potential/colors.

Chuck sees even Dean after everything can’t kill Jack and even without a soul Jack is still trying to do the right thing but he is not powerful enough because Chuck can kill him with a single finger snap, it means so can Amara and that their level creatures. In short, Jack isn’t powerful enough to protect creation.

After this, Chuck “writes” himself as the villain of the story for Winchesters. And he knows Winchesters would never stop till they defeat “the villain” and get revenge. Safe to assume that Chuck can see and hear anything so it’s actually not possible to beat him — without him allowing it.

He probably knew Death and Empty’s plans regarding Jack (this is what he wants too, remember). He wants to be “defeated” and “retire” from being God.

So Winchesters, Castiel, Empty, Death, almost everyone bands together to beat him. At the end of this plan and trials for Jack, Jack becomes a “power snatcher”.

But Chuck makes it easy for him too. There is still threaths like Michael, strongest Archangel and Amara (who is most likely more powerful than God and even though she now enjoys creation, destruction is her nature and she can still end the world one day if she chooses).

So what does Chuck do? He brings back Lilith to piss Winchesters off further, and brings Lucifer back to piss off daddy’s boy Michael. Michael killing Lucifer helps Jack to get stronger. Michael first betrays then works for God and still Chuck doesn’t “forgive” him and kills him. One threat down. And he absorbs Amara so he and she become “one” threat for Jack/Winchesters to deal with.

And in the final, he starts throwing punches even though tbf it’s not his style at all but this also helps Jack. So Jack now has Archangels’ power and God’s power to absorb and becomes strong enough to defeat Chuck.

In the end, Chuck finds his heir, there is no great threats to world/heaven anymore, Jack proves himself as a good God. Chuck even got rid off other alternative worlds so this is a clean slate for Jack to work on.

And Chuck doesn’t even die. He becomes his best and favourite creation: human. Finally he is not burdened with the author duty, and he is free to be a character in this new story.

And I believe that this is what he always wanted. As Chuck he could get a taste of being a human but still he was the God/author. But now not only Winchesters, but HE is also free.

Of course you can say there are scenes contract with my “theory” but then again I’d just say, Chuck was playing us, audience, too.

We know from the Bible Gabriel came "down" to announce to Mary she was pregnant with the son of god but because this is supernatural; Gabriel probably thought this would be a funny prank.

This is my first watch and it actually pissed me off with how out of character everyone was,Sam and Dean especially

Like,what do you mean they are stuck in a cell for about a month and go "Yep,its time to sacrifice one of us.". Dean was tortured in hell for what? 20? 40 years and he broke only then. Sam was stuck in the cage with Lucy for a bit,they both have endured unimaginable torture and some mildly unnapetizing food and half a month of being alone is enough to break them enough to consider sacrificng one of them? That's ridiculous to me.

Also,couldn't they pray to Cass? As far as i'm aware they still can do that and there was no angel warding.

Maybe this is me not seeing the next few episodes but i really can't imagine what can they say to make this feel more in character

i'm also not feeling whatever the hell is going on with Cas this season and Mary is an annoying character rn but this is moreso seasonwide issues for me than this episode specifically

After season 11 being really damn good s12 is a big fat dissapointment

So I'm rewatching the whole thing for the second time. (I finally watched it during COVID. When it first came out I had horrible fears about horror movies) Just started season 6. I feel like Dean should have become a firefighter or cop or something since he has such a hero complex. I think he would have made a great firefighter or cop because he'd have no hesitation of running into a dangerous situation.

Also, side note, Chuck is a complete douche canoe. I don't want to add any spoilers because I don't know how to block it out, but I know who he is and what he did/will do was/is scummy...

I’m rewatching Season 1 and I keep noticing how much Sam is trying to distance himself from the hunting life, even while he’s clearly worried about Dean and wants to help him.

Knowing everything that happens later makes some of his reactions feel completely different.

Do you think Sam genuinely wanted to leave hunting behind, or was part of him always going to come back to it because of his family?

Im on my first watch through right now and I must say Gabriel is one of those characters at first I didnt care for but the more episodes he was in I really started to like. The episodes he was in as the trickster were always entertaining and his redemption arc where he tried to take out lucifer I honestly wasnt expecting.

I juste watched S12 ep 23 for the secamd time, when Jack is introduced. The first time I saw this episode I was sad for Castiel and upset for Crowley because a thought the didn't have to die, it was a bit pointless. But the second time I watched this episode, I understood that it was the right time for them.

Castiel was really had to sacrifice himself to succeed, something he didn't really manage to do for the whole time he was there. And Crowley was just tired of everything and decided by himself for the greater good I guess.

Please tell me if I missed something

First-time viewer. This show has given me plenty of moments when I've gotten chocked-up, usually because someone's died, but this is the first time when it actually made me cry.. I watched this last night andwhen Dean takes Castiel's coat out of the trunk and hands it to him, I just lost it realizing that Dean's been driving around with it all this time. It's been almost a day and I'm still emotional.

Has it ever been confirmed/denied Lucifer was really "just messing with" Dean after possessing Sam? It seems like something he might say whether he really had or hadn't been winning the whole time. Sam did gain control later and he hesitated to jump in then, too, so it feels plausible/consistent to me that he could've taken over for a few seconds at first

When they visit in season 12 alternate Bobby talks about an eternal war between heaven and hell. One where demons look more monstrous and are a constant presence. Where angels were necklaces consisting of baby ears and very few humans remain.

Then when we get to season 13 there’s no demons to speak of. In fact it seems like the war is long over and the main conflict is the angels trying to suppress the humans. They wear military uniform with no real signs of excessive brutality. I guess the monsters are still more feral but it feels like a completely different dimension.

There’s also a bunch of little things. Bobby seems like a solo actor in season 12 who is perfectly happy to go on a suicide mission to see how many angels he can wipe out before his gun runs out of ammunition. Yet in season 13 it seems that he has a large colony of people entirely dependent on him. The world also looks different in how it’s coloured. Overall it feels like Jack opened up an entirely new portal off camera at some point and nobody realized.

I’m on a rewatch, finishing S12 as we speak (tagged for s13 since that’s where the core of my question is but please let me know if I should change) and I was wondering what were everyone’s thoughts on Jack *before* he was born? Kelly and Castiel were adamant he was going to good-natured, but everyone else was terrified (except Lucifer and his loyalists, of course).

As a viewer, what did you think was going to happen when Jack was born? Did you think he’d be naturally evil like most of the characters and that he was tricking Kelly and Cass (Cas? Sorry please don’t come after me lol) or hoping he’d be good? This just popped into my head as I’m watching the s12 finale right now and know what’s coming literally at the start of s13

Man this was such a waste of a good plot, showing us 5 monster families in a city of Chicago with a maybe main character Ennis about to go in detective/hunter where the shifter sister wanting to start a war with the other families. I look into this and turned out this was almost about to be a literally spin off of supernatural I would've loved to seen monster on monster gangwars jesus it was such a waste. Would've seen characters from the main series in it like how The Boys did it when Gen V. Any thoughts on this?

I was just wondering if anyone knows any users/accounts/places where people have written essays or think pieces about the show or different aspects of the show?

For example: User Impala67 wrote a giant tumblr post about Sam's trauma throughout the show, or User (insert name) wrote a huge essay on their blog about how and why the show managed to create a giant fandom that is still loyal and alive post show etc.

I hope everyone can understand what I mean. It's just I've been really wanting to read essays (even video essays I welcome!) and such about and around the show now that I've finished it.

So basically I’m on season 5 of my rewatch right now, and I’m just like what the actual f*ck??? Because Dean and Bobby are like “Sam is so evil and makes such bad choices” and I’m like… um excuse me? Dean makes bad if not worse choices than Sam sometimes! And Sam in the earlier seasons definitely has a better moral compass than DEAN!!! Is it just me? Also, I’m not one of those girls who like, just likes one brother and hates the other, I love them both! Just thought this was a little… annoying.

FYI I flared this at season 5, but it kind of goes throughout the whole series.

Um am I missing something? That would seem to be grandad Samuel but how old was he in the 70s and he's back in the 2010s (.?) ...I mean he's looking 60 now and then but he would have had to be 30 then to be even 70 now..am I missing something? Apart from also he was also less than living ....the last time we say him ??

I've watched the first (and probably second) season of Supernatural probably at least 5+ times, I've watched up through S3 at least three times, and I've watched up to halfway through I believe S7 once. However, I don't remember anything past halfway through S5, and very little from anything past S3.

Now I'm rewatching the series and hoping to finish it if my issue with watching long shows doesn't stop me (I always lose interest around halfway through shows like this). As my rewatch continued, I rediscovered how much I *love* The Trickster. Everything about him; his motives, his abilities, (obviously) his Tricks, and especially his personality that's acted out *so* friggin well is absolutely amazing. Once I got to S5E8, when Cas said he's too powerful for a Trickster, I remembered he's actually Gabriel, which kinda sucked because the reveal would've been amazing to experience again. Despite that, everything within the reveal made me love him so much more because I'd forgotten his *real* motives past having fun and throwing people off their high horses. He just got sick of seeing his family tear each other apart, so he left and became a being that just has fun. He doesn't care about stopping the apocalypse, not because he wants to see the world burn or anything like that, but because he just wants his family to stop fighting, and whoever wins will end up accomplishing that.

I still don't remember anything between the second half of S5 and halfway through S7 because it's been too long since I've watched it. Nor do I know anything about what comes after because I haven't even watched it, but even if he gets killed off or something, I don't think anything can ruin his character for me. From what I've heard about everything past S5, I don't think there'll be any other recurring character that I like as much as Gabriel, so he'll always be my favorite.

Off the top of head (I still had to look up the episode) are these three:

1. Devil May Care - Season 9, Episode 2

A female soldier with the insignia of Private First Class (1 chevron, 1 rocker) introduces herself as a Sergeant. If she was in charge of anything, she'd be a sergeant, so that means her insignia was wrong. She was either an E5 Sergeant (3 chevrons) or an E6 Staff Sergeant (3 chevrons, 1 rocker).

They obviously didn't even bother to look up U.S. Army ranks.

1. Season 12 finale

Crowley's ritual sacrifice was literally pointless. Was only mere seconds after he stabbed himself to trap Lucifer in the Apocalyptic World does Lucifer step right out and stab Cass in the back. One of the most poorly written plot points in any form of media I've ever seen. A very lazy way to kill off a character.

1. Exodus - Season 13, Episode 22

A very weak Gabriel tried to give Sam and Dean enough time to escape through the portal between real-world and Apocalyptic World by fighting a vastly stronger alternate Michael. All three could've just jumped through the portal together in just a couple of seconds while Lucifer was getting beaten up. What was the point of waiting for Lucifer to finish fighting why they all hated him anyway? And Gabriel's sacrifice was so Sam and Dean could have enough to get through the portal that was 5 feet away, yet they just stood there. His sacrifice was pointless. It was just a way to kill off a character.

Crowley has always had a classy appearance, and while he did trick and outsmart the brothers a few times he still did a few good things from which the brothers benefited from.

What bothers me is how he’s been portrayed after season 10, where he’d meet with the boys to plot a plan against greater evil and Sam would just shit talk to him. The guy is the king of hell and can literally end them any time he wants which doesn’t seem to concern Sam.

Now, I’m not saying that they should worship the demon or have a respect for him, but the whole writing around their interactions seems like the writers are just milking Mark’s character for the plot development rather than what they originally had in mind for him.

Lastly, the same can be said about Castiel who just looks like a joke in later seasons. They nerfed him to hell and on top of that would send him “away” when he’s not needed for the plot which is 99% of the time.
