Reminder: Posts from new Reddit users are held for moderation

In order to combat spam we have an automoderator rule to detect posts from new reddit users. If the reddit account is recently created then the post is held in the moderation queue for a moderator to approve or discard.

It might take a few hours for the post to be approved (often less, sometimes more), but please be patient. We're volunteers and we don't get paid to sit around watching the moderation queue.

I mention this because we've had a few cases recently where a new user has made a post that has been held for moderation. When they didn't see it being displayed they deleted it and posted again (often several times).

Once a post has been deleted we can't undelete and approve it. it's gone for good. It's quite frustrating for us to receive a modmail asking for a post to be approved when there's nothing we can do.

So if you are a new user and your post isn't showing up, then please just wait. If it hasn't appeared within 24 hours then send us a message (link in the sidebar) and we'll look into it.

I'm looking to make monthly donations to a cat rescue within Surrey. Help pls

Preferably for the disabled or old but realistically any rescue in Surrey. Also preferably not RSPCA or Cats protection. Id prefer my money went to a small rescue for some reason it feels more impactful in the grand scale of things

Hello everyone,

I am a postgraduate student at the University of Surrey currently gathering data for my final dissertation. My research focuses on local consumer experiences within Guildford's food and hospitality sector.

If you have a few minutes to share your thoughts, it would be immensely helpful for my project.

The questionnaire is fully anonymous and intended strictly for academic purposes.

I will attach the Microsoft Forms questionnaire directly below.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Strange encounter while walking between Hox Park and Englefield Green — has anyone experienced anything similar?

Hi everyone, 22 f I wanted to share something strange that happened to me yesterday while I was walking home and see if anyone around Hox Park/Englefield Green has experienced anything similar.

I live at Hox Park and was walking home along one of the usual routes towards the Englefield Green side. The area is quite quiet and foresty, so there weren’t loads of people around.

I had a suitcase with me and was just casually walking and taking pictures of the trees and the road. There was a woman walking behind me, but she was on the other side of the road, so I didn’t think anything of it.
I stopped for a few moments to take some pictures, and by the time I started walking again, she had passed me and turned right. I also needed to turn right, so I continued along the same route.
She was then walking ahead of me. Everything seemed completely normal until she suddenly stopped and turned around. She crossed the road to the other side and continued walking.
As we were about to pass each other, she suddenly started walking towards me. I said “What?” and then “Are you good?”, because I thought maybe she wanted to ask me something.
She didn’t respond at all.

She just kept walking towards me. I started walking forward to create some distance, and she ended up behind me. I asked her again what was wrong, but she still didn’t say anything.
At that point I had a really strong gut feeling that something wasn’t right, so I grabbed my suitcase and started running towards Hox Park reception. When I started running, she also started walking faster.
I ran all the way to reception and was so out of breath that I actually fell when I got there. I told the staff what had happened, and they went out to check the area, but by then she wasn’t there.

Description of the woman:
White woman
Looked older/middle-aged to elderly, but was still walking normally and didn’t appear extremely old
Wearing a black dress
Wearing black sunglasses
Had tattoos on both hands
Was carrying several bags/covers
One of the bags was a black plastic bag, and there appeared to be something inside shaped roughly like a bottle

I obviously don’t know what her intentions were, and I’m not saying she was definitely trying to harm me. There could be a completely innocent explanation for her behaviour.
But the combination of her suddenly changing direction, crossing the road towards me, coming towards me without saying anything even after I asked if she was okay twice, and then walking faster when I ran away really frightened me.
I’m posting this mainly because I’m wondering if anyone around Hox Park/Englefield Green, particularly along that route, has experienced anything similar or recognises this person.
I don’t want to unnecessarily scare anyone or make assumptions about her, but I thought it was worth sharing in case someone else has had a similar experience.
Has anyone experienced anything like this around that route, or seen someone matching this description?

Long shot Surrey: does anyone have a flat or a room and a workspace wife and I can use on a rolling basis?

Short story long. Wife's visa interview for US got canceled and we (along with the rest of the planet) are waiting for them to reschedule. We have no idea if itll be end of September, October, November, etc but we dont think it'll go past that. If it does, we would probably return to our home countries and come back to UK and book a hotel for the interview.

My ask is does anyone in this subreddit have a furnished studio flat or a furnished room that also would have a desk and living space? Short term rentals are eye watering expensive and the fact we dont know if it'll be a couple weeks or a couple months makes it difficult to book something. The Short term rentals are minimal 3 months and Airbnb is just crazy prices and wouldn't offer the flexibility a private landlord would have since we could leave as soon as visa is granted and passport is returned. If she doesnt get the visa, we would be leaving to her country anyways so youre not stuck with us.

I work remotely so I would need a space to work at 8 hours a day. We are clean, helpful, positive married couple. I could bring my own desk and chair, just need a bit of space for it.

We could pay week by week and pay the first few weeks upfront. We would be happy to help around the house, I love a bit of yardwork, sort out any IT issues, and would try to make ourselves useful while not being a bother, keep to ourselves, and respecting your privacy.

I'm mid 40s male from USA, shes mid 30s female from Morocco. I'm hoping there is a kind soul out there that might take us up on it. We are currently in Guildford. I could provide my current landlord and other people as references. We gave notice months ago and our last day in the current flat is the 8th of September.

You would be really helping us out. We love Surrey and hope to stay in the county. The only other requirement is access to Internet.

I also will not forget your kindness and would find ways to return it (beyond the rent) in one form or another.

Making a LOTR inspired map of Surrey

Hello! I am making a Tolkien inspired map of Surrey, and I had great help from r/Hampshire for a Hampshire version (where I live) that I was hoping for feedback here!

Towns, middle age ruins, abbeys, castles, geographical sites ( I do research these things but found I had missed things that mattered more to people!)

There are certain flourishes I tend to add at the end, maybe the county flower (I don't think there's an animal?)

But also I just wanted to share, I love doing it and Surrey is lovely!

UPDATE: thank you everyone for feedback - I am busy squirreling away on them! I'll update you when I have completed them!

Bookham - what’s it like for teenagers?

Hello we’ve seen a house we love in bookham!

But wondering what it’s like for teenagers?

It’s in the catchment (1 mile) from Howard of effingham.

We were originally looking at ashtead - so teenagers would pop into Epsom for cinema and shopping etc or london or Kingston. But in bookham do kids just go to leatherhead? Doesn’t seem much there or that nice?

Any thoughts welcome!

Cycling - How to escape the Tillingbourne Valley

A quick Q for those who are cycling either on the roads or on gravel. Do you know of any routes out of the Tillingbourne valley northwards that are not killer climbs like Whitedown Lane, Combe Lane, Ranmore Road etc? This is specifically riding north, so rather than riding west to Shalford and around or over to Dorking and round. I get that it’s the same ridge all along that north side, but there must surely be an option that isn’t a short 20% lane other than riding up Newlands Corner…?!

Thank you!

Ashtead budget advice

Hello

We are planning to relocate to Ashtead and really love it. We have a budget of 1mil but are starting to think this is very unrealistic for a decent sized 4 bed detached house. There is little stock on the market and the ones that are left seem way overpriced.

Is this just typical for ashtead? Do I need to be more realistic or are people just chancing the asking price and we should maybe rent instead and be patient for a better deal?

Any thoughts welcome, I’m feeling deflated

Book Club — Romantasy lovers wanted! ✨📚

Hi Girlies! 👋

I (26F) recently moved back home after living in Australia and am looking to start a new book club in Cranleigh/Bramley/Godalming area for young women who love getting completely lost in a good book — particularly romantasy, fantasy, romance and anything with a bit of spice, magic, drama and ✨tension✨.

I’ve looked around locally and there seem to be a few existing book clubs, but lots are currently full, so I thought… why not start our own? 🤷‍♀️

The idea is a small, friendly group of women in their 20s/30s, meeting somewhere around Godalming once every month/6-weeks for a drink or coffee and a good natter about the book.

If you're a lovely person who likes to have a laugh, loves books and wants to meet some new people locally, please comment below or send me a message! If there’s enough interest, I’ll set up a group chat, and we can organise our first meet-up. 🥰

18M looking for mates around Wokingham / Camberley / Guildford or anywhere!

Hey everyone, I’m Cameron. I’m 18 and living in Wokingham. Most of my current mates live miles away, so I’m looking to meet some guys around my age (18-21) who are local.
I’m down to have a drink, watch/play football, have a random walk somewhere or anything else. I can easily travel out to Camberley or Guildford, but I'm looking to avoid Reading/Bracknell areas.
If you're local, , and wanna hanging out, drop me a DM!
Thx so much guys!

DIY friends

Hi everyone!

I’ve always been into crafty hobbies like crochet, knitting, journaling, and sewing. I currently have a few dresses that I want to alter, but I'm a bit scared of messing them up on my own!

I know I could take them to a professional, but I really enjoy the DIY projects and want to learn. I’m looking to make some local, in-real-life friends who are good at sewing, enjoy doing it and might want to work on projects together.
