How do you organize equipment in your truck? I recently upgraded from a Honda Civic to a Toyota Tacoma, and I don't want to keep my back seats cluttered or let my poles, stakes, etc. roll and slide in the bed every time I brake or turn. There are many options, which is why I think I'm having this mental block with deciding what to do. Pics and descriptions are appreciated.

Hello everyone, I am currently located in California and looking toward getting my OSHA 10 and 30-hour done. That being said, I am split between which one I need for surveying. Would you guys recommend the General Industry or Construction Training and why? I tried searching for it online but was unable to find a solid answer with solid reasoning behind it.

As for why I am getting it, I’d like to have it that’s all. I am planning on applying to a new company soon that does a lot of construction staking and I think it’ll be good to have.

I have this confusion regarding correcting the survey data. I have logged my base and processed my base log using NRCAN PPP service. While my base was logging i used a rover to survey. Now i know the correction from the PPP report should i just apply that correction to all of the points that i collected?

I assume that my correction value is
0.924 in Northing
-1.397 in Easting
-2.142 in Elevation as per the PPP report

If i am applying this correction then how can a point that i collected on first 30 mins have the same amount of correction as the point that i collected on the 8th hour. Considering my survey was 8 hour long.

Feel free to educate me on my understanding if i am
missing something. What is the best workflow to deal with the situation. Should i use a GNSS processing software to process the while thing?

Surveying a parking lot for “blue top”, all the curb is about in. It is only me out here a very big parking lot. Here is what they need:

“There should be hubs every grade break to establish flowlines and hinge points. Every 25’ for tangents, every 5’ for any radius without curb or at a minimum a radius point labeled with footage.”

Mind you I have just started surveying for a concrete company and do very simple surveying for them. Can someone help me understand what they are asking for layout? I have a whiskers and 1.5”x1.5”x6” hubs.

Surveyors: am I reading this boundary survey correctly?
This is my neighbour’s recent title boundary re-establishment survey in Victoria.
I’m trying to understand the diagonal boundary between their property and ours, particularly where the driveway and landscaping are.
Am I correct that the thick black line is the actual title boundary, even if that line physically runs through part of the existing driveway?
I can see “PEG PLACED” and “SPIKE PLACED” at various points. I’m assuming a surveyor wouldn’t necessarily be able to put a normal peg in the middle of a formed driveway, so the absence of a peg at a particular point doesn’t mean the boundary follows the driveway instead?
I’m asking because there are plants and the neighbour’s letterbox around this area and I’m trying to establish which property they’re actually located on before changing any landscaping.
There is also an E-1 drainage easement shown, but my question is specifically about the title boundary rather than the easement

I’m 25 and have around five years of land-surveying experience in Illinois. I’ve mainly worked in the field as an instrument man doing construction layout, boundary, topo, ALTA, as-built, utility, and subdivision work. More recently, I’ve been training for a crew-chief role.

I’m currently attending community college for civil engineering, but I’ve realized that I don’t really need or want a civil engineering degree. My main goal is simply to become a PLS.

The biggest problem is the college situation in Illinois. As far as I know, SIUE is the only in-state school offering a bachelor’s degree specifically in surveying and geomatics. I live and work in the Chicago area, and SIUE is almost five hours away, so attending would require me to quit my job, move across the state, and give up the surveying position that is currently helping pay for my education. That makes SIUE extremely difficult financially and practically.

Parkland offers surveying coursework, but not a full surveying bachelor’s degree, and there aren’t any surveying bachelor’s programs near Chicago. I’m open to an online degree, moving eventually, or even pursuing licensure in another state first.

I’m not trying to avoid learning the profession. I just don’t want to spend extra years and money earning a civil engineering degree I don’t need. Given my experience and situation, what would be the fastest and most practical path to becoming a PLS?

I’m currently working with a Leica GS14 system using SmartWorx Viva. I have a GS14 base and a GS14 rover, with a SIM card in each receiver, and I’m trying to connect the rover to the base through the Internet/cellular network.

Has anyone here configured a GS14 base and rover over the Internet using SIM cards?

If so, I’d really appreciate some guidance on how to properly configure the connection.

I’m going on 6 weeks since I submitted my application to the board for review. Does anyone have a time line they have experienced that was shorter or longer?

My elderly dad inherited this random 8 acre piece of land in far SW Arkansas back in the 90s when his dad passed away. His dad had gotten it in some kind of barter for automotive work.

He's just been paying the $12 tax bill every year from Texas, now thinking about giving it to me to do whatever with.

The shape (just tax map mockup) is very odd, how it digs into the adjacent land. Just curious why it'd be shaped like that? That hammer arm looks like trouble to me
