Blown fuses

Hello I need some help asap! I know I did something dumb but the other day I was changing the battery in my 2014 Passat tdi and I accidentally got the cable mixed up and put them on the wrong terminals with that being said my power steering went out the battery won’t stay charged and a lot of dash lights are on I read that it could be fuses but not sure any ideas thank you!

If you scroll down and click on diagrams, it says the fuse is in the engine compartment, i think it’s under the fuse box, not sure though.

Did you disconnect the battery again after discovering all the issues? To my recollection, the only way you could have connected the wrong terminals with the short ground strap is maybe having the battery facing the opposite direction. Once you figured it out and corrected the situation, did you disconnect the battery yet again to allow everything (BCM & ECU) to rest?

There are 2 fuse boxes. One is next to the battery in the engine bay. Most of these fuses are for things that need constant power. The other fuse panel is in the dash. Most of these fuses all run through the ignition. All of our VWs has it behind the miniature glove box in front of the driver left knee (LHD models). <Same left side spot but behind the large glove box on RHD models.> You open the box all the way and then while squeezing the sides inward, pull the box towards you and it will come off the dash easily leaving the hole exposed. I cannot remember if the Passat is the same. YouTube videos are your friend.

They make fuse checkers and sell them at the auto store or Walmart. Also, You can take a pair of needle nose pliers and pull them out individually to check for a burned fuse. Be careful and remember where you pulled it from. Maybe take a few pictures on your phone before you get started.

More than likely if you unhook the battery and wait 15 to 30 minutes then hook it up correctly again you will be able to start the vehicle. With the engine running. Turn your steering wheel all the way one direction. Then all the way in the opposite direction. This will reset your steering sensors. The dashboard will have all sorts of lights. Put the car in drive and drive about 1/2 a mile. Everything should reset. The last thing will be to open and close each individual window while holding the button all the way down then all the way up and then repeat once more... Each window... This will reset your auto features on all windows.
