What is this bug?

For context I was about to watch my friends stream in discord i click his screen then suddenly my 2nd monitor,where my discord is open, kinda freezes a bit like it was about to completely hang and lags hard , i cant cross my mouse to the other monitor , i can still interact like with taskbar and windows button on my keyboard and my mouse pointer became like the I beam pointer split in half then completely apart

This is rhe second time this happend and in both instances this happened after I interacted with discord

Do any of you here have experienced something similar or know what happened?

I really would appreciate it if any of you could give me some insights about this as im a bit parsnoie sbout this

I had to uninstall Discord and just use it in a browser as it had a really bad memory leak that turned the entire PC to near freezing levels after a couple of hours. Your problem might not be due to a memory leak, but it would be my first guess for sure.

Check Task Manager and view which processes are using most RAM or just try running Discord in a browser.

It not like always like this last time it happend was like months ago and it i just happend randomly

Like my mouse cursor was like artifacting and couldn't cross to thr other monitor and discord was like uninterctble or laggy

Im just super parnoid about it being malware

I honestly wouldn't jump to malware from this.

The cursor splitting/artifacting plus Discord becoming almost unresponsive right when you open a stream sounds much more like the graphics/display stack freaking out than somebody controlling your PC.

Discord actually recommends disabling Hardware Acceleration when streaming causes lag/video issues, so I'd try that first. There are two relevant settings depending on your Discord version: the general Hardware Acceleration option under Advanced, and the video/streaming one under Voice & Video.

I'd also update your GPU driver, or roll it back if this started after a recent driver update.

If it happens again, try pressing Win + Ctrl + Shift + B. Windows uses that shortcut to reset the graphics driver. The screens may flicker for a second. If that immediately fixes the weird cursor/display behavior, that's a pretty strong clue you're dealing with a GPU/driver/rendering issue.

I don't think a memory leak is impossible, but if this has only happened twice months apart and both times right as you interacted with a Discord stream, it wouldn't be my first guess.

If you're still worried, check Task Manager and Reliability Monitor after it happens. But based on what you described, I don't see anything here that specifically points to malware.

Sorry i just get paranoid and scared about these kinds of thing that i just wanted to confirm it with other people to have some peace of mind and know what actually is happening, as this pc is kinda expensive and i saved up just to buy it before getting fired lol so its really important to me

I mean yeah my av (Kaspersky) didnt alert me about anything and there really nothing usnusal happening
