This happens so often, they should make these labels yellow or red, not transparent

they do on midrange coolers,atleast my deepcool ag400 had a massive cyan sticker with giant red lettering on it saying

PEEL THIS MOTHERFUCKER OFF

I don't understand how one can just "okay I take the cooler and place onto CPU now" without even looking at the bottom of the cooler to verify if any thermal compound is there in the first place??? If and when they check is when they should have noticed the red warning text.

But I agree they should be yellow, and probably add red text and have the sticker wrap halfway up or all the way around the cooler.

I guess they are either stressed or follow a tutorial without any knowledge. But I’ve seen so many of those, last time I mounted one I triple checked if there was anything on the cooler

Will help removing that sticker but that cooler is still pretty garbage, I would replace with a half decent Thermalright tower cooler.

For years i just used stock coolers but the Ryzen 5 9600x that i got for my last build didn't have a cooler included, so i looked around found one that would fit the case and the TDP and ended up getting the thermalright S100

That thing is a real monster, big heavy heatsink, slow moving fan but because of it's big diameter it can move a lot of air.

Honestly didn't know why i was making do with dinky stock coolers for years, i used to have a Dell Vostro 200 with a C2D that had a similar TDP but dell used a far smaller heatsink and fan, without vapour chamber, because of that it sounded like a jet engine even at idle, this machine just hums under load, cooler can also make a lot of difference to the sound output.

That cooler is from the mid 2000s, it can in no way handle the heat of a high end modern processor.

I work at a recycler part time, we've gotten ancient coolers like this new in box, with old copyright dates and the dust to prove it. Basically all of them have a sticker on the bottom, if not pre applied thermal paste (which is concrete by now from being exposed to air for 15 years)

I hate this cooler design to an irrational degree. I guess it was fine for a single core Pentium, but that looks like LGA1700?!

There must be a production site somewhere in Dongguan that just produces these crappy ass coolers and hands them out for free. Otherwise I can not explain their existence in 2026.

You're not too far off. I'm sure there are PC dealers in Shenzhen etc who can get these for under $1 each in bulk. They're like $5 on AliExpress to consumers. Slap these into unbranded prebuilts using tray CPUs and boom, "gaming" PC.

I've used a couple coolers recently for builds that force you to turn over the cooler to install mounting hardware so you always see the sticker and the note to remove it. i thought that was pretty smart.
