How can I use the word “detritus” in a sentence

29

u/NeonExorcist 5d ago

Best use of “detritus” in a film.

Worst? Heat (1995), Diane Venora’s awkward monologue to Pacino in a particularly weak scene. Interesting fact there.

Worked on this scene for a month in acting class like 20 years ago. The monologue was difficult, and I chalked it up to my inexperience. Turns out it's just written awkwardly.

A month? It’s a 5 minute scene…

When we’re talking about alpha particles or beta particles, yes. Yes it is.

What about gamma? Asking for a friend. Also I don't feel so good.

What still haunts me is her realizing that she's the one to create and send the physical algorithm pieces back in time from the future.

6

u/46goldbuyer 5d ago

When does she realize that?

8

u/memento22mori 5d ago

I may have missed it but I don't think that's in the movie. I believe that's a fan theory but it seems logical based on her work and age.

5

u/the-National-Razor 5d ago edited 5d ago

Based on what.

This is an honest question. I can't find anything

2

u/memento22mori 5d ago

I've seen it mentioned on this sub, I think it was, but I've never seen anyone go into detail about it so I'm not sure if it's just based on her age and work or if there's other details. Also, she's the only scientist shown working with inversion in the present time of the film and female scientists are a lot more rare than male scientists (I'm sure that's changed over time so I'm not sure if that's still the case or if it's just how they're usually portrayed in movies) and it's mentioned that a woman invented inversion technology.

1

u/MikelDP 5d ago

I also like this theory.

The movie never hints at it but we know she is one of the main scientist studying reverse entropy, and the algorithm was created by a woman scientist in the very near future.

If someone in her time invents the algorithm they will need to know all the things she is currently figuring out. Good chance it could be her.

-1

u/RobbyInEver 5d ago

Many subs on this topic already. It's her.

2

u/stanley_morgan 5d ago

Yes pls link!

2

u/CarameloRetriever 4d ago

people online tend to HATE when we mention theories as if they were the true actual meaning of the film but, me personally, not only I think she is the one scientist priya mentions AND Neil is Max, I'm also 100% sure operator ives (aaron taylor-johnson) is young michael caine (who probably became a Sir after all the heroic shit with the protagonist)
