I did a little bit of deep dive after noticing some things. While looking into her faith (Hindu) I noticed that there is blatant disregard and disrespect to Christianity and Christian Faith.

While some of the characters have a Christian Faith and she does not the only Faith that is treated this way in the show is towards Christianity.

She is the creator and writer and this the jokes were approved by her. While she may choose to make some laughs about faith there is never any other religion that gets anything like she does with Christianity.

- She throws up on the Bible.

- Danny ask for her to say “Our Father” and she mocks it by saying: Halloween be thy name. Which itself is implying that Fathers name is the Devil.

- Sexualize scripture in the Santa Fe episode she treats scripture as purely an erotic tool.

- She mocks Danny for his faith

- Casey and his entire loose morals, who just abandoned his faith abruptly to chase after something (DJ and whatever else) only living a life later completely different than to how we met him

- Mocks Christian church traditions, including the whole hat when visiting Casey’s church. Making fun of a certain demographic that enjoys dressing like that.

- White Savior mission trip to Haiti with highly insensitive, exaggerated, tone deaf, and racially insensitive jokes.

- She regularly clashes with Danny’s faith and traditions trivializing his moral convictions and his faith as a personality quirk.

Hey everyone! I started rewatching the series on paramount and could tell that the order was off as another post has stated so i decided to give the actual order of the episodes based on the way paramount has them labeled. Honestly I didn’t notice it was this bad until putting it together. (Sorry for not including title names I didn’t realize until halfway through.)

Any Canadians watching on paramount+ notice the episodes are out of order? Or the title doesnt march the episode? S2E12 “Danny Castellano is my personal trainer " is the title but the actual episode is from S1. then S2E13 jumps to D&M dating 😩😩

I'm watching the Mindy Project for the first time and like many posts I've seen on here I can't stand Danny's character. I'm up to S4 and she's just had the baby and honestly his comments are despicable, such as women have to suffer through the pain of birth control etc. I'm curious whether I just hate his character because I'm seeing it through a 2026 lens or was he equally hated when it came out in 2013?

Also I am not invested in their relationship at all, he seems to dull her light and not in a Type A keeping the Type B person grounded way. Were people rooting for them at the time because we were often fed the highly accomplished women settles for loser trope?

season 1, mindy’s birthday. the guy at that bar sings her a birthday song (you’re 1 year older, here with your friieends) and i cannot for the life of me remember the first line to the song. i don’t have access to the show anymore but i desperately need to know the first line to that song🫪

I have recently started watching this show and while I generally like it in the background, it gets annoying with how her character is so confident and competent at times and then suddenly in the same episode projects so much insecurity or entitlement. Like in that one episode she refused to join some celebrity clinic because they won't allow her to accept patients with insurance so I thought it shows she's a good person and has some form of empathy but then she'll go around treating nurses like crap refusing to pay living wages. Similarly in some of the episodes she'll come across as very smart and project self confidence but then suddenly become so much insecure when she always keeps bringing up her breast sizes to random men she meets. Ngl it gets so annoying and cringe with the flip flops in her personality in every episode. Now I won't have an issue if her character started out like that and then they showed some development on how she became secure and comfortable in her own skin but so far 3 seasons in and I don't see any character development for her.

I love this show an rewatch more then I would like to admit but there’s one I can’t stand, it’s the pretty man episode. Idk why I just can’t stand it. I usually skip thru the ending of Mindy and Danny’s marriage too, they are so angry and it just kills the vibe all the fighting. But I just skipped the pretty man one and thought it was funny that is one episode I just can’t stand watching

I’m in a different group and a girl is complaining about being ghosted (she must not have a lot of experience with ghosting because she finds it strange) and all I want to write is “I’m gonna do the honorable thing and ghost” but I know the joke wouldn’t land because it’s a niche quote.

I can't believe Paul (played by James Franco) is literally blackout drunk, passed out on the floor, and Mindy kisses him on the lips... when he rightfully freaks out, and she shushes him and says "you liked it" and runs away, then this scene is never spoken of again, it was just a cute quirky thing to do I guess? Not to mention she's literally also engaged ..

And then later, Christina comes and sees Paul blackout drunk, can't even stand up on his own and she takes him inside as the camera lingers on her face looking distinctly scheming — and then she has sex with him, again while he's barely conscious...?

Like in both these scenes its made abundantly clear that Paul is barely conscious and two women take advantage of that and face zero repercussions or even shame

Omg I’m on season 5 on the episode where her oldest friend came to visit and she was really into Morgan and Mindy wanted to sabotage it so bad that she told her friend, Morgan was an ex-con. She has zero respect for him! She doesn’t even treat him like a person. The further I go on the show the more I dislike Mindy!!! She is so annoying and so self centered and her voice ughh !

I wonder if her personality on the show is similar to her personality in real life because I think that she was just as annoying in her role in The Office.

I’m on Season 4 Episode 12 and I genuinely cannot stand Danny as a husband. I’ve watched SO many ensemble/sitcom relationship shows — Desperate Housewives, Girls, New Girl, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Office, etc. — and usually the main love interest is flawed but still fundamentally supportive. Like they may argue, have commitment issues, communicate badly, whatever, but you can still FEEL the love and respect underneath it all. The relationship feels like a partnership.

With Danny, it feels completely different to me.

He’s SO harsh with Mindy all the time. Not in a playful “sitcom banter” way either. He constantly tries to strong-arm her into becoming the version of a woman/wife/mother HE wants instead of accepting who she actually is. Every disagreement feels less like compromise and more like him trying to overpower her decisions until she gives in. It’s exhausting to watch.

What bothers me most is how critical he is of her personality at her core. Mindy is ambitious, messy, funny, social, emotional, career-driven, impulsive — that’s literally who she is. Danny acts like these are character flaws he needs to “fix.” He’s always lecturing her, judging her choices, or making her feel immature for not fitting into his very rigid idea of domestic life. It honestly starts feeling less romantic and more controlling.

And the thing is, early on I understood the “opposites attract” dynamic. But by this point it feels like Danny doesn’t actually LIKE Mindy for who she is. He likes the idea of her fitting into his life on his terms. There’s a difference between wanting your partner to grow and constantly trying to reshape them.

I think that’s why their relationship frustrates me more than other sitcom couples. Most TV couples still feel like teammates even during conflict. Danny often feels adversarial toward Mindy. Like he’s parenting her instead of loving her.

Am I alone in this?? Because the show keeps framing him as this dream guy and meanwhile I’m sitting here stressed every time he talks to her 😭

Might be a little nod to Superstore?

Kevin Smith (as himself) is on the plane and Ben Feldman, who plays Jonah in Superstore, says to him "I love Chasing Amy". If you've seen the show, his character spends the entire show literally chasing Amy.

(Also, Chasing Amy is my fav Kevin Smith movie - deff recommend)

Edit: I for some reason thought Project Mindy came out in the late 2010s. This unfortunately was not a nod to Superstore, just a fun coincidence.

The craziest part of this show is Mindy constantly running around in NYC barefoot.

Shes already been barefoot in the street at least 3 times and Im only on s1 ep 9.

Rewatching this series in my 20’s and Danny truly sucks. He has always been a jerk to Mindy but him isolating her from everything after giving birth to Leo?? Does he not know about postpartum depression especially someone as Mindy? Also the push present yikes.

It’s just hit me that every. single. guy that Mindy went out with initially shamed her. I cannot think of a single one who wasn't rude to her, put her down or shamed her BEFORE they started their relationship.

And it's making me wonder, from a psychological perspective, WHY did she go for these guys? Because if that was us, and we told any of our friends, “oh yeah, I met this guy and this is what he did/said to me” and then a few weeks later we said, “I’m dating him now” our friends would NOT approve.

Some examples:

- Josh - on their very first date, went through his phone in front of her, trying to find girls to take to a party instead of Mindy, implying that he's got loads of girls on his phone who are hotter than Mindy.

- Danny - was rude to her from the very beginning and quite frankly for the whole series, so we'll leave that for later.

- Cliff - rude to her the second she came into his office and Mindy was going through a breakup at the time. No way to speak to a woman who is clearly distressed.

- Drew - ignored her to watch the sports matches on the tv

- Casey - shamed her for being selfish, shamed her for her religious beliefs

- The artsy cultural writer - said she wasn't cultured enough for him.

- Brendan…. hold up… is Brendan Delaurier the only guy who did not shame her ?!

- ok BJ Novaks latin character I think was ok on the first meeting too

- The Indian guy - put her down for not being Indian enough. (I know she didn't date this one, but she still continued a friendship with him..)

- Jodi - shamed her on the subway publicly for breastfeeding her son.

- That sports coach from Princeton - didn't shame her, but he was quite rude to her initially in their first conversation.

- Sam the army guy - I felt his letter and whole attitude towards her was a bit cold. Seemed like he just slept with her but wasn’t really invested, I think it was unreasonable and unrealistic of her to want him to stay but it was sad that he didn’t want to *at all*.

So please help me psychoanalyse Mindy's personality: What causes her to go for these guys who have been so horrible to her? You know, they shouldn't even be an option at that point. It’s like she wanted to prove to them that she was worthy or win them over.

Every time I watch Mindy I feel so sad about the Mindy/Danny pairing. There were SO many better options, even brendan imo and that’s saying something 😭😭

First of all, Danny is so short sighted. He claims to care SO much about family and wanting Leo to have the best childhood, and with his reasoning, having mindy around all the time. Then he goes and messes up their relationship by abandoning it to look after his dad, bullying / pressuring Mindy, being manipulative and ultimately leading to a situation which isn’t in Leo’s best interests at all? Making mindy a single mum, him living away from his own son and mother of his child.

Not to mention before this, for the majority of the show he doesn’t treat Mindy very well? Always putting his mum (and others) first, putting her down, treating her a bit like she’s stupid and he always knows best.

He’s super avoidant too like not considering her a part of his family, when they first start dating and he breaks her heart, not wanting her to move in.

I feel Mindy regresses a bit when she’s with him too. At least Casey made her grow as a person and when she was single she was super independent and capable.

Honestly, I can’t stand the guy.
