The Moth is a storytelling show, so books turn up inside the stories rather than as recommendations. That makes for a strange little list, and I mean that as a compliment.

I run Podshelf, a free site that tracks book mentions across hundreds of podcasts by reading the episode transcripts. This is The Moth slice for August.

From Schooled, the best of the month and both from the same story: a classmate casually naming Ovid as their favourite Roman poet while the storyteller is "still stuck on book two of the Cambridge Latin Course. A great read if you ever have the chance." Then Adam, correcting an answer with the alternative poetic form used in the Aeneid, book one, line 324.

From Calling In: Sophia Romero, author of the novel Always Hiding, whose essay Sun Over the Yardarm appears in the Make Mine a Double anthology.

From All Dressed Up: Spoon Bread and Strawberry Wine, the award-winning cookbook and family memoir Norma Jean Darden wrote with her sister Carole. And Eloise, because Kay Thompson, who wrote it, was choreographing the rehearsal being described, gave up on the cast and quit.
