Painting Basing ideas

What do you guys do for bases that works well with all the colours we use in DA? I was thinking the martian bases but I already do that on my tau. I wanted to do Forrest bases but I can't get the look quite right? Cheers!

I've tried muddy/ Forest bases before but I didn't like it.

Then one day, Sir Duncan Two Coates blessed me with a vision. A vision of Armageddon bases and I've never looked back.

So yeah, I do Armageddon bases now and I like the vibe.

I'm personally going for a Mars / Red Planet type base. The desaturated red/brown really makes the green standout. Plus they're easy as hell.

I do Mars too. My method starts with spackling and some sand on top for texture. Once dried, I do a black base. Then 1 coat of burnt umber. Then a dry brush of autumn brown, some agrax earthshade, and 1 more dry brush with terra coat. And then a few scrubs if i have them.

Turns out like this

You would be better rebasing the Tau if they are all red to a green forest base. Then do DA red.

3000pts rebased? Nuh uh lmao. Plus lore wise, tau paint their suits to camo to the terrain, I love the martian bases on my tau

I moved from living on the beach to the Midwest. Before leaving I got a big ass tub of Beach Sand. Every Dark Angel stands on the sands of Myrtle Beach as if it were the forests of Old Caliban. Both of us miss our homes

I like autumn forest bases, the orange and red really goes well with the greenwing colours and looks pretty decent with the deathwing bone as well. They're way easier to put together than I thought, you basically just use a dirt-colour terrain paste and then sprinkle on a bunch of these miniature leaves while it's still wet. Then add flowers/bushes as you usually would.

I really like doing city ruins - it fits the vibe and you can adjust the color palette of the stone to compliment your models.

I’ve gone a frozen planet, and the Armageddon bases work perfectly for large ice chunks
