Toledo Area Resources

Things are rough. No one can really argue about that, right? I thought maybe a big post about available resources might help people out. This is of course not comprehensive, but I can edit and add if folks want to offer more.

United Way: They help with a wide variety of things. Call 211

www.findhelp.org - Similar to United Way, resource search

https://helpnow.populationhealth.com/ - enter ZIP to see resources

OhioKan - assistance for relatives/kinship caregivers raising children.

Lutheran Social Services of NW Ohio - Behavioral health counseling, substance use addiction counseling, reentry transition services

Ohio Consumers' Council - Utility info & assistance - Spanish & English

The Ability Center - Assistance with disabilities

Sharing Collective Free Store - 2545 Monroe St, Toledo - back door in wall w/mural - Thurs 2-5:30PM only. Clothes, housewares, kitchen supplies, toys, toiletries, pet supplies.

Toledo Public Library The library is so much more than books. They have free streaming services and audiobooks, DVDs, CDs. They have community rooms that are free to use. Printing services, passport, dog license.. so much!

Pathway - Home Energy Assistance

Planned Parenthood Emergency Contraception (Morning-After Pill), Birth Control, Pregnancy Testing and Planning, Gender-Affirming Care, Prenatal and Postpartum Services, Wellness and Preventive Care, Sexual and Reproductive Concerns, STD Testing and Treatment, HIV Services, Vaccines

Neighborhood Bridges for Anthony Wayne - people can make requests that are then emailed out to a mailing list for community members to help.

St. Vincent de Paul Locations by ZIP code - Assistance varies by location - best way to ask what is available is to call the closest Catholic church to you and ask for the St Vincent de Paul committee. They distribute vouchers for their thrift store on Airport Hwy.

Meals

  • Trinity Episcopal downtown - breakfast every Sunday from 8:45-9:15 with no expectation that anyone attend services. Church members go to this breakfast as well and it’s a true free community meal.
  • Helping Hands on the east side - hot meals 5 days/week.
  • Masjid al-Islam - Friday afternoons (Depends on donations and availability of volunteers to run services.)
  • St. Patrick’s historic downtown - soup kitchen every Sunday 11:00-1:00. (Possibly also clothes and toiletries)

All of this by 2030. This, combined with the Glass City Metropark, which is also estimated to be done by 2030...Holy Toledo

If you're out of the loop, we got $20 million in funds to build bike lanes. These are all proposed bike lanes that the city will start building this year (2026).

Toledo’s last old-school Chuck E. Cheese closes, ending an era for the animatronic band

Unbelievable. I just saw a video about this location last week on Youtube. I had thought all of the animatronics were gone except for that last one in California. I didn't realize this was one that still had them because they never remodeled. I wanted to get out there and see them, I just didn't realize I had less than a week to make that happen. Oh well.

Mechanics in the area

I have a 2008 Volkswagen GTI 6-speed manual

I already have the parts and am looking for a labor quote to install:

  • ECS adjustable short-shift kit, ES#3161690
  • Velt Sport stainless clutch hydraulic line
  • Properly align/adjust the shifter cables after installation
  • Bleed the clutch hydraulic system with fresh fluid

I have quotes from Hidden Motorsports (but they were way high)
Waterville Imports - Quote wasn't bad but out until October
And Pure Tuning who said he was 160/hr and it would probably be like 3 hours of work.

VW Dealership said they wont do it, I'm assuming they have a new GM because they did aftermarket for my buddy like 2 years ago. I'm looking for a mechanic who can get the work done for a reasonable price and that can optimize what was put into it.

Lunara Bakery, a Toledo micro-bakery, is getting a storefront!!

Hi friends and neighbors!

My name is Lucy and I own a bakery here in Toledo called Lunara Bakery. We specialize in artisan European style pastries made fully from scratch and with high quality ingredients.

Over a year ago I posted here on our community for the first time introducing my micro-bakery that at the time I was running out of my garage in Old Orchard. Now I am here to announce some big news…

We are opening a storefront!!!

You guys, thank you SO MUCH, I have met so many of you at the market over the past few months and honestly, the support you guys have given me is the reason we are here now. People from this subreddit were my very first non-family customers I ever got on my pastry drops.

Our bakery will be located in Haymarket Square, on Main street in downtown Sylvania!! (Technically not Toledo D: Am I even allowed on this Subreddit now?? lol). It won’t be a traditional storefront but rather a production kitchen for me to be able to bake even more than before. It will double as a place for people to pickup their pre-orders. Maybe in the future we will open a few times a week with a case full of pastries but until then, I want to make sure we are growing slowly so I can focus on making sure our pastries are as good as they can possibly be!

Also, as some of you already know, I am at the downtown farmer’s market (in front of Libbey’s glass) every single Saturday, so if you wanna try out our goods, come say hi!!

Thank you so much again, I hope I can continue to bake for the community for as long as I can <3

Local bathroom wall art

So, this may sound funny and super random but I am starting a collection of bathroom wall art and setting up an online shirt store. There’s some cool stuff out there that I think is fun to document. All designs name the spot that they are found. If anyone has location suggestions or even photo submissions I’m open!

AT&T Air Vs Buckeye/Rocket

My boyfriend and I recently decided to move to the point place area looking up what internet to use buckeye seems to be the primary choice of everyone in the area.

However looking up anything and talking to people I've seen nothing but complaints with buckeye broadband, I also saw something about rocket but looking more into it's just buckeye broad band with no guaranteed speed.

Which is unfortunate because I planned on putting a computer server here to host Jellyfin and Immich.

Unfortunately there seems to be no option that is wired but I found AT&T supports their 5G internet and found there top speed to comparable to Buckeyes lowest tier which I believe is what I want.

My question is would going with the 5G internet be better or worse than Buckeye Broadband?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Looking for some friends!

Hi! I'm an 18 y/o trans guy who's looking to make some friends around Toledo and Perrysburg. I'd love to meet other queer or trans people, but it isn't a requirement.

I go to shows at Frankie's, The Switchboard, and Howard's in BG a lot and would love to find people to go with. I like crocheting, thrifting, writing, photography, and spending time outside. I also love collecting vinyl and cosplaying!

Meta's low-effort PR campaign in NW Ohio

Post image
55 Upvotes

Just saw this on Reddit - in the past couple of days, my family has commented on the amount of Meta-related ads on YouTube as well.

The funny thing about this one is how almost phoned-in-with-low-effort-AI the ad itself seems. Why not just say "Dean Monske" - that's the guy's name! This makes him sound like one of the anonymous satisfied users in a Cialis commercial or something.

It all just seems off somehow - maybe Meta went ahead with their proposed 60% layoff in favor of replacing everyone there with AI agents?

Question about Ottawa Hills

My company has a branch in Maumee and I could possibly move from Wapakoneta, Ohio just a little South of Toledo. My wife and I love the homes in Ottawa Hills. Can you tell me anything about what it would be like to live in this area? We spend a lot of time at home, but do eat out occasionally and really enjoy small mom and pop shops. We have kids in 1st, 2nd, and 7th grades. Our oldest is on an IEP (autistic/ADHD and needs some accommodations) and our middle also is receiving some accommodations due to poor fine and gross motor issues, but fine outside of that.
We love the small town, but there are no houses here or they are they not nice and priced the same as the homes we love in Ottawa Hills.

Thanks!

Bronze Boar Music Fest

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone, a local startup called Octiv is hosting their launch party on 9/12 at the Bronze Boar. They have 4 sweet bands and a jam session for local musicians. Wavelane is a newer band that totally rocks, Willow Run is a Toledo staple, and Silicon Death Ray is a touring band out of Cleveland that features dual drummers. Additionally, the bands all will have merch tables and to Stubborn Brother food truck will be there. There’s a professional sound crew helping to put on the event. It would be sweet to pack the yard for the show.

Octiv is a platform that helps venues book local talent, from discovery through payment.

Learn more at:

The event page:

Would love to see everyone there!

Family Looking for new home

Looking for a place to rent in the Toledo area

My fiancé, our newborn, my stepdaughter and I are looking for a place to live. We unfortunately have about 30 days to find somewhere because the home we're currently in was sold without us knowing, and we're being forced to move.

We both work and have enough saved for a deposit and move-in costs. I'm also a disabled veteran and recently got back from deployment, so I've been trying to get our family settled and back on our feet.

On top of everything, we're about to take in my fiancé's 16-year-old niece. She's in a really difficult situation and doesn't have anyone else willing to take her in. If we can't, she may end up in foster care. We just want to give her a safe place and a chance to have some stability.

We do have 3 cats, but they're well taken care of and we're responsible with them. We're more than willing to provide proof of income, references, or whatever a landlord may need.

If anyone knows of a landlord, apartment, house, duplex, or anything available soon, please message me or share this. We're not asking for a handout. We just need someone willing to give us a chance and work with us. We just cant afford too keep doing these application fees with no luck

I'd really appreciate any leads or help. Thank you.

Salt and Pepper Munchbox

Scrolling reddit can be a rabbit hole and these were in one of them. Easier to google to get photos. Mostly from Chinese or Indian restaurants in England and Ireland I guess but look like a perfect football share to me.

Can anyone think of anything close here without ordering five different appetizers?

Went to Crumbley Comedy Cup last night, had a great time!

Never seen anyone on this sub mention Crumbley Comedy before, my girlfriend and I checked it out last night as a last minute date night.

We grabbed tickets a few days before. It was at Toledo Spirits and it had 32 regional comedians doing 1 minute sets in a single elimination tournament. Two people go back to back, then a 3 judge panel votes on who was funnier and that person advances.

We figured it’d be fun to watch some local amateur comedy, maybe see a few people bomb, have some drinks and laughs. Ended up getting blown away. Every single person was hilarious. Over two hours we heard all different kinds of jokes, different senses of humor, and a lot of creativity. Laid-back, low-key vibe down in the Toledo Spirits basement. The promoter/MC was a little cringy, but other than that we had an amazing time.

I know this might sound like promo, but it’s not. Just felt like the event should get some recognition because I think a lot of people on this sub would enjoy it.

We also wandered down to Ostrich Town for the first time and tried out Riverside BBQ, kinda pricy but was pretty damn good!
