We have daily storm threads that get very active with live coverage and discussion from our community during severe weather events. I’m biased, but I think we have a fantastic community with a huge variety of people. Everybody is welcome!

Storm Prediction Center Sep 2, 2026 0100 UTC Day 1 Convective Outlook - Tornado Risk 2%
...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE CENTRAL PLAINS AND MIDWEST AS WELL AS THE MID ATLANTIC...
...SUMMARY... Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms remain likely into tonight across parts of the northern/central Plains and Upper Midwest, and parts of southern New York into the Mid-Atlantic. Large hail and damaging winds should be the main threats.
...Southern NY/The Mid Atlantic... A mid-level shortwave trough and enhanced west-northwesterly flow were observed from the Northeast/Mid Atlantic States to the lower Great Lakes this evening. A front was draped from northwest to southeast across southern NY/New England, with numerous showers and storms ongoing along and south of it this evening. The air mass here is unstable and moderately sheared which is supporting organized supercells and short linear segments. Damaging gusts remain likely through this evening, along with some hail and perhaps a brief tornado, especially near the from across southeastern PA and NJ where low-level sear is maximized. Convection should eventually begin to weaken with the loss of diurnal heating and as it approaches the coast later this evening.
...Central Plains and Midwest... Several supercells have developed ahead of a weak surface low along a stalled front from NE into SD. A very unstable air mass (MLCAPE of 3000+ J/kg) is in place and extended downstream of the cluster across eastern SD, northern IA and southern MN. A belt of strong mid-level westerly flow along the front will continue to support organized storms. Upscale growth is possible this evening with one or more clusters or an MCS expected to eventually develop and track across portions of northern IA and far southern MN. This will pose a threat for severe wind gusts and perhaps a tornado along the front through tonight.
Farther southwest along the surface lee trough, scattered high-based storms were ongoing in eastern CO and western KS. Buoyancy and shear are much weaker, but steep lapse rates and T/TD spread of 30-40 degrees could support a sporadic severe gusts with these storms before they weaken near sunset.
...Great Lakes... A secondary mid-level vort max and upper low, currently over the western Great lakes, may serve as a focus for additional storm development tonight across eastern WI and lower MI. The eastern portions of the quasi stationary front remain very warm and unstable. As ascent from the upper low/shortwave approach after midnight, they may support a modest enhancement of the southwestern low-level jet. Warm advection at the nose of this feature could allow for a cluster of thunderstorms to develop and intensify. The large elevated buoyancy and 40-50 kt westerly flow would favor a risk for hail and damaging gusts before moving into southern ON by 12z Wed. However, confidence in how this scenario evolves remains low and only 5% wind/hail probabilities will be maintained given the uncertainty in storm development.
...Coastal Southeast Texas/Southwest Louisiana... Tropical Storm Edouard will continue tracking northwestward across southeast TX and southwest LA per latest NHC forecasts. Some enhancement to the low-level wind field and hodographs has been noted in outer bands along the northern portions of the circulation. This may support transient updraft rotation with any cells. A brief tornado or two may occur across parts of coastal southeast TX/southwest LA through tonight as the system weakens.

Between August 30 and September 1, there have been at least ten reported tornadoes (including waterspouts); most dealing moderate damage. The most well-known of these is the Cabugao tornado on August 31, 2026 (video). Could this be an instance of a potential outbreak or an unusual occurence?

mine is the 2025 Gary Sd tornado And the 1979 Gove county Kansas tornado. I like the Gary tornado because of all the different shapes it morphed too. it went from a cone to a cone/stovepipe. then it became a skinny cone then it became a stovepipe before roping out.
I like the Gove county Kansas tornado because of the skinny shape. it looked like a cone at the top and and rope in the middle and bottom. I also like the huge dust cloud the tornado produced at the bottom. It also looks kinda landspoutish

I've noticed that as the tornado strenghtens, even of It's still pretty far away, the inflow comes in very turbulent violent bursts and It looks almost mini subvortices (like starting from 1.24, you can see seemingly tiny downbursts that get picked up and kind of become swirls).
is this a visual effect of vorticity ingestion? Like, ground level vorticity "trying" to form a tornado resulting in turbulent flow and swirls. The camera Is pointed towards the tornado so It should be between the ffd downbursts and the inflow, where afaik Is where vorticity ingestion and propagation of the tornado happen

Hello, I do not have a basement or a garage but desperately want a tornado shelter either above ground or below ground installed. I am having trouble finding a reputable company that will do below ground, and am very stressed about finding an above ground installer that will actually keep us safe. Does anyone have any experience with a company that installs in Kentucky (Louisville) that they would recommend? All the good places seem to be much further south. :(

I have been bothering about which tornado is this, it is seen in from several YouTube videos as real tornado turned to edited clips to show what Tri-State Tornado look like. I been searching for 2010 Bowdle EF-4 and 2013 Bennington “EF-3” tornadoes as distance footage of very large tornado look partly similar but never found exactly same footage of a real tornado. And the second clip show “vomit” shrapnels in air, reassembling from 2016 Wynnewood EF-4 tornado close up right after powerful jet flow suctioned house’s roof into exploded debris. But I do not know if this is Wynnewood tornado clip in this second clip. Last clip show approaching tornado with pulling clouds as cloud inflow, I was wondering if this is from 2015 Rochelle EF-4 tornado in footage I forgot where to find. Or it probably 2013 Hattiesburg EF-4 tornado as it approaching for urbanized area. I want to know which tornado clips are they exactly.

I posted a few questions here over the past couple of weeks about storm chasing, radar setups, and how you all plan your chases. I got some incredibly detailed and thoughtful responses
And today is actually my 15th birthday, so having all of you take the time to share your knowledge with me feels like the best present I could ask for.
