Warhammer III Random appreciation post
I’d never played anything from the Total War series before, let alone Warhammer. During the Steam sales, I bought Warhammer 3. I’d already played a few real-time strategy games and a few 4X games in the past, but my goodness, nothing compares to this game!
I’m 35, I’ve got a rubbish full-time job and not much free time, and I’ve always spent what little I have on gaming. But it had been years since I’d experienced anything like this. Within a week, I’d bought Warhammer 1 and 2 to get all the factions, plus another €35’s worth of DLC. All that before I’d even finished the bloody tutorial. I spend two or three hours on it every day, and I learn something new every day. I try out a new faction, try to work out how to play it, and this is teaching me to recognise them when I come up against them as enemies. This isn’t a game, it’s a bloody religion, and I’m glad I stumbled across it by chance. And that’s it, I’m proud to have entered this world, and I never want to leave it.

That’s too difficult a question. For now, I’ll go for Katarin, Kislev, but only because it’s the only campaign I’ve won 🤣

u/TheRealIvan Fire and Blood 18h ago
If you can win as Kislev then you are doing well!

Thanks, but be careful. I won in the Realms of Chaos, not in the Immortal Empires. I found it easier. 😵💫

RoC Katarin is still an achievement! It's still a constant onslaught coming at you.
8
u/LioGiu-91 15h ago
Well, thanks, that does boost my self-esteem a little, but I feel I still have a world of learning ahead of me.
7
u/Wild_Marker I like big Hastas and I cannot lie! 15h ago
Well I don't know how things are in today's version but I remember in 1.0 Katarin's RoC campaign was one of the most defensive. She's like that in IE too, that position of hers is surrounded by problems and expanding just expands your selection of problems!
Happy warmongering.
2
u/LioGiu-91 14h ago
That’s true, and in fact I didn’t expand much. But I achieved the impossible through diplomacy, and by the endgame I was surrounded by allies. In the end, thanks to this, I was able to focus on the four Realms.
2
u/UnidentifiedDipteran 14h ago
Still an accomplishment if you are strarting out, though. The RoC map is much less crowded than the IE one, but I'd say RoC Katarin is still relatively challenging. It was my first WH3 campaign and I really liked how it kept me on my toes.

Is it weird that, in fan art, Morathi is typically the least Enhanced?
8
u/AltusIsXD 13h ago edited 11h ago
Well she’s the most obvious. You can go ingame right now and look at her boobs upclose. You already know her size.
The other WF girls are much more modestly dressed (usually) so you can’t see their boobs, which leads to you imagining a size for them in your mind.
1
u/L0kiMotion 5h ago
IMO, that makes her more attractive. I just don't find the art with cartoonish sizes to be particularly appealing.

16
u/Orions_starz Medieval 17h ago
I can see it! Morathi wants something spicy like Southern Cathay! The lady wants some creamy tilean food. Isabella doesn't care as long as they have wine! Tzarina's upset that she's already on her third glass and doesn't want to carry her home. Ulrika doesn't care as long as it's not Stirland food. Finally Arriella(misspelled) is secretly happy to just be invited but can't show it obviously even though Morathi plans to stick her with the bill.

That's great to hear. May I recommend you play the friendliest of the beginner friendly campaigns, Karl Franz of the Friendly empire.
10
u/LioGiu-91 14h ago
I swear, they were among the first ones I tried, but I found it incredibly difficult to keep the empire united, my allies were being wiped out within a few turns, but I’ll definitely give it another go. I’ve also picked up the Elspeth DLC, just in case.
7
u/Gurablashta 13h ago
That sounds like a typical Karl campaign.
Source: have over 100 games across 3 games as Franz

Karl was a beginner friendly campaign, but with all of the threats and so on added, his start is quite difficult.

This! The Empire is the safest and most peaceful place in the Old World. Don't mind the Beastmen horde two days from Altdorf. Or the Greenskin tribe currently attacking Middenland. Or the occasional Norscan raiders. Or the undead hordes in Sylvania and the Grey Mountains. Or the followers of Nurgle messing around in Hochland. Or the rodents of unusual si-Gets shot by a witch hunter

I started out like you. Bought Warhammer 2 because my kid liked big fantasy monsters and dinosaurs. Got Warhammer 1 soon after because I thought those Vampires seemed bloody cool. Got everything else with subsequent sales in the months to follow. These days I got just over 2000 hours in Warhammer 3 and that number will keep climbing for some time yet.

It’s lovely to see parents making time for games like this. I don’t have any children myself, and the idea does worry me a bit, given how little time I manage to set aside for gaming at the moment.

For all the issues the game has plus CA blundering their way through support at times it still is one of my favorite and most played games. There really is nothing else like it and the sheer amount of content in the game is staggering.

To be honest, I’m more of a feet person. 😏
Joking aside, though, I uploaded the first image I found in my gallery because I use it as my wallpaper; I didn’t see it as anything sexualised, perhaps because I’ve been married for 10 years.
I just thought the artist deserved some exposure, that’s all.

Alarielle. when and if she gets her hands on the sword of Khaine she commonly slaughters her way through 1/3 of the map and sits happily at strength rank one

1

Not at the moment, let’s just say I’m swamped by the sheer amount of vanilla content already in the game, in fact, that’s one of the reasons why I’m enjoying it so much. But the time for mods will definitely come.

I would recommend the mods that add more immersion like more gun smoke and the ones that add climate change or day and night cycles.

This is something that comes into my mind time and again. I've been on the Total War journey starting on Warhammer 2. I had played TW before, but I found it to be very same-ish between factions, in part because of the limitations of historical titles in regard to variety, and in part because I was a stupid teenager who couldn't appreciate a historically-accurate portrayal of warfare. But much like Age of Mythology introduced big monsters and heroes into Age of empires, so did TW:W, and I just obsessed over it.
I've been following this game through high and low, from the big awesome releases of the Warhammer 2 DLC, to the weird launch of WH 3 and it's eventual almost death. I haven't played as much of 3 as I wanted, due to having a more demanding job nowadays, but I still love this game series so much.
Even with all its issues, lackluster sieges, desperate need for a Lizardmen rework (my beloved), and overall difficulty in updating and communication on CA's part; it is just a fun awesome game.
All of my issues disappear into the void when I set up a line of Saurus spears against an incoming charge of chaos cavalry; or when I manage a perfect Imperial artillery strike against an army of Orcs and Goblins; or when I unleash my Druchii raid parties against High-Elf settlements.
When we stop focusing on the minutia and appreciate the full game for what it is, we notice the amount of passion and work that went into putting such a huge setting together, and all the pieces and parts that work with eachother to make it work, even if sometimes they skip a gear or two...

u/thedrizztman 16h ago
lol There's always an artwork with the hot elf literally framing her tits. Really draws the weebs in.
Also, I agree with you.
As much hate as the game gets by long time fans of the series, you can't deny that the entirety of the series is a technical marvel that CA don't get enough credit for.
To have nearly the complete roster of Warhammer fantasy factions coexisting in a single ecosystem that spans over a decade of production is literally amazing and, I would argue, completely unprecedented.
Yes, there are persistent bugs, no, it's not perfect, and at times, it's had some REAL issues. But even now....The End Times DLC is getting me hyped to get back into the game. Even now, I feel that 'one more turn' itch. I have multiple thousands of hours and dozens of completed campaigns with this game, and you bet your fucking ass I'm getting hyped to roll around with Necro-daddy and subjugate the entire planet.
Glad to have you on the team. Strap in.

u/LioGiu-91 14h ago
Well, I didn’t know anything about the Warhammer universe before this game. I’m literally discovering everything bit by bit from this game, and it’s absolutely brilliant. I haven’t just found a single game, but a whole universe.
Anyway, thanks. I’m really pleased to be part of it now.

1
u/LioGiu-91 14h ago
To be honest, that wasn’t my intention. I’m so used to watching anime that I didn’t realise some people might find them oversexualised. I just thought it was a brilliant piece of art; I’ve actually got it as my computer wallpaper.

I understand that tits hurts your eyes the same way sunlight does. But if you go outside you'll see that there are tits everywhere.
5
u/Dreadedvegas 17h ago
Its not prudish to be annoyed at the proliferation of anime gooner content.
Its a Total War sub not some anime gacha game sub. Just look at the comments. Half of them are gooner comments.
-6
u/Orions_starz Medieval 17h ago
It prudish and unbearably so. You're not fooling anyone. Go tip your fedora else where and see how real women like you. They don't need your prudishness and they won't want it either. Females exist, your going to have to grow up and get over the fact that they do have breasts.
8
u/DelightfulWaffle 16h ago
The fact you used the phrase "tip your fedora" and then immediately refer to women as females is hilariously ironic.

1
u/Orions_starz Medieval 18h ago
Go away prude and stop pushing your dubious morality on others. Those are the games LLs (except Ulrika) and folks will make art of them.
-2
u/Fox-Sin21 For the Lady, for Bretonnia! 18h ago
You do realize the only "hypersexualized" character in this art is literally a Dark Elf that actively runs pleasure cults right? Like she is just that sexualized normally because its how she WANTS to be. Witch Elves, a Dark Elf unit both in game and lore, are nearly naked as they fight. Dark Elf women just be that way a LOT of the time. Dark Elf culture as a whole is about depravity.
Trying to white knight fictional characters, especially one that in lore is exactly as depicted is wild.
Is this some weird attempt to be feminist? Women can appreciate this kind of art too, I have known many that appreciate seeing women portrayed sexy. Actually I have never met a woman in real life that has ever wanted the opposite. Most in my experience want to see powerful sexy women.
5
u/Separate_Crazy_983 14h ago
Alarielle is using her arms to push up and emphasize her breasts and Enchantress does not have such a low-cut dress or is that endowed in game. The art is well drawn but it's also clearly sexualizing some of those female characters.
0
u/Fox-Sin21 For the Lady, for Bretonnia! 5h ago
That is not "hypersexualized" thats like bare minimum sexualized at best lol. The Alarielle one is more funny to me than anything, not sure who is going crazy for that minor thing.
As for the Enchantress here is official artwork of her. The game didn't use the lower cut dress but she has been drawn with one. https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/vsbattles/images/f/f5/Ladyofthelake2.png/revision/latest?cb=20230430080302
Obviously its somewhat sexualized for Alarielle and they added some size to the Enchantress but ultimately its not "hypersexualized" its just a little bit and why tf do we care so much?? The point of this post wasn't even the art it was just used to bring attention and its a well drawn art piece that only slightly exaggerates 2 characters in incredibly minor ways that for some reason seems to upset you.
The characters don't care I promise you and most women don't care. Getting upset about it is just some really weird virtue signaling. If you think this is "hypersexualized" then you may need to go touch grass.
1
u/Separate_Crazy_983 4h ago
I never said it was hypersexualized, but it is sexualized.
The artwork is clearly based off of their in-game portrayals. Neither Alarielle or the Fay Enchantress are as endowed in-game as they are in this art. Fay Enchantress is straight up two cup sizes bigger. Also, your link doesn't work.
I do not have an issue with fictional characters being portrayed sexy, but the fact that Alarielle and Fay Enchantress are in pin-up poses in what looks to be a stand off with the other characters looks out-of-place. Katerina, Ulrika, the vampire, and Morathi look fine. Fay Enchantress and Alarielle stick out comically and bring down the tone of the art.
I am not upset by this artwork, but it is disappointing to see artwork like this become more common on the sub lately. This may shock you but many women are into Warhammer or Total War as well and a subreddit posting gratuitous pin-up art of the female characters tends to put people off from participating in the sub.
"Virtue signaling" is an idiotic term and no one takes you seriously for using it. What "virtue" am I "signaling?" Gender equality? Opposition to sexualization and objectification? Supporting these concepts is bad now?
-3
u/LioGiu-91 18h ago
I just thought it was one of the best pieces of fan art out there; to be honest, I just see some badass women, I didn’t mean to sexualise them, and it’s not my drawing anyway.

I've been playing total war since the first medieval total war. I wouldn't call it a religion but the franchise is my favorite type of computer games. I'm happy that fantasy Warhammer also had a place in total war, even over the consistent complaining done by some historical fans. I look forward to TW40k and Mid3 in the future.
