So pumped - have had a few Toyotas but never a Sequoia.

Hoping for many miles and family memories!

Where should I start on simple mods/improvements?

Low mileage and cheap tires from the dealer, so I did all of the fluids, plugs, and am looking for some quality take-offs.

Bought the Eibach pro lift kit a few months back and here it is with some Toyo 285/75r17s with Icon Rebound 17x8.5 +25 offset. The Eibach is set to 2” in the front, and I have absolutely no rub at full lock.

Just got my first Sequoia. A 2007 with 225k miles on it. As far I know, the last time the timing belt was done was 2015.

This will be my 5th 15-20 year old Toyota and by far one of the cleanest ones I've ever owned. Good news is I got the opportunity to get my dream 4th gen 4Runner, bad news I cannot keep 2 vehicles.

I'm selling this 2003 2wd SR5 with 213k on the odometer. Clean Title California car that had an excellent service history and a particularly well taken care of interior. No rust, leaks or CEL and the timing belt/ water pump was taken care of since I bought it February of last year.

Known issues, the rear latch of course and there is a vsc/trac light on the dash. The reddit yota communities have always been good to me and I'm hoping someone from the community that knows and appreciates can snag a good one. Listing for 5k obo out of SoCal Inland Empire area. Message me direct for inquiries.

Bad head gasket or possibly water pump?

I’ve got a 2007 first gen it started over heating about two weeks ago as well as the heater was blowing cold so I figured it was a thermostat.

I replaced the thermostat and it still was over heating but the heater started blowing hot so I then figured it was my radiator as it’s years old as well as the fact that I don’t have milky oil or white/blue smoke from exhaust pipe.

So I replaced the radiator with a brand new one installed it today after install I filled it with coolant filled the reservoir got my funnel and parked it on a steep incline did the normal bleeding procedure and let it idle and bubble out for 30 minutes and it stopped bubbling so I took it on a test drive and it still over heated as well as the heater never blew hot only cold again.

I’d like to mention as well after I replaced the thermostat I let it idle for an hour and it didn’t overheat I thought I had all the air out took it for a test ride and it over heated so I’ve noticed it only over heats when driving not when sitting at idle which made me think it could have been a clogged radiator but now I’m thinking it’s the head gasket and I’m getting combustion fumes in my lines really just looking for second opinion before I decide to scrap the truck for now as I don’t have the time to do a head gasket or money to pay someone lol

Tldr: new thermostat new radiator heater still blows cold is it pointing to a head gasket?

Where should I list my sequoia for sale?

I posted my 2021 trd pro on here a few weeks back looking for a value. Where would be. The. Best place to sell it? The carvana/ carmax value and what the Reddit says it’s worth is very different ( $10000 to $20000 difference). I wouldn’t expect it to bring the higher value but also don’t want to give it away, I’d be satisfied with something in the middle. Help me find a loving home for this tree.

200k maintenance, 1st Gen - Maintenance Advice

I have a Gen 1, 2-wheel drive, and the radiator just went out at 192k. While getting that replaced, is there anything else I should look for getting checked other than what’s suggested in the manual? TIA

Owner Requesting Help Did I make my rust situation worse?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Thankfully it appears all rust is surface level. But in April I bought a 2018 sequoia in the rust belt. I immediately got it deep cleaned and scraped as much as I could off with a wire brush. From there I got Patriot lining - this could be my mistake. It’s a combination wax and asphalt coating.

I noticed in a few spots it’s flaked off because of rust. What should I do to prevent rust from continuing?

Here’s our girl - she was born in 2008. We call her “ol reliable”. We’ve had her 9 years, got her with 171000, paid $13k in 2017. I’m now a single mom with the same 5 kids, who are all aged 17 and up now. They grew up in her. She’s been in many states, we’ve had so many memories together. I literally never thought I could feel this way about a vehicle but I LOVE her. She knows nothing except to just keep starting and going. Fuel gauge doesn’t work. Check engine light has been a constant companion. TPMS also likes to shine. We haven’t had any major repairs. She’s got a small amount of rust and we live on gravel so she gets put through it. I do NOT like the gas mileage but I also can’t imagine getting something else. I don’t want to hurt her feelings (haha). I’d really like to see how much further we can go. Thanks for letting me share. I’m a proud mom. 🥰

Everything is falling apart lol. Catalytic converter got got, so she straight piped, kinda fun for me not so much for wife, kids, or my neighbors 😂 I don’t want to sell, but I don’t want to spend 10k to get her right. Lots of problems, yet still the most reliable thing I’ve ever owned. Sad it’s coming to an end.

2020 Sequoia TRD Pro – Broken Front Coil Spring / FOX Replacement Options?

2020 Sequoia TRD Pro – Broken Front Coil Spring / FOX Replacement Options?

Looking for some advice from anyone familiar with the 2018–2022 Sequoia TRD Pro FOX suspension.

I have a 2020 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro with the factory FOX suspension, and my driver-side front coil spring has cracked. The FOX shock itself appears to be fine.

The frustrating part is that Toyota apparently doesn't sell the TRD Pro front coil spring separately. The dealer is telling me I'd have to buy the complete FOX shock/spring assembly, which is roughly $1,300 for ONE side.

I'm trying to find a more reasonable solution.

Option 1 – Replacement springs on the factory FOX shocks

Ideally, I'd keep my existing FOX shocks and simply replace both front springs.

I've found springs like the Dobinsons C59-474, which are listed as stock-height replacement springs for the 2008–2022 Sequoia, but I haven't been able to confirm whether they will actually fit the factory TRD Pro FOX shock/spring perch.

Has anyone successfully replaced JUST the front springs on the OEM Sequoia TRD Pro FOX shocks?

If so, what spring/part number did you use?

Option 2 – Replace both FOX fronts with Eibach coilovers

The other option I'm considering is the Eibach PRO-TRUCK Coilover 2.0, part #E86-82-103-01-20.

Eibach lists these for the 2008–2022 Sequoia 5.7L 4WD, and I've found retailers that specifically show the TRD Pro as compatible. However, when I contacted Eibach directly, they were hesitant to confirm TRD Pro fitment because the TRD Pro factory suspension differs from the other Sequoia trims.

My thought was that since the Eibachs are complete adjustable coilovers, I could replace BOTH front FOX assemblies and have the Eibachs adjusted so the front ride height stays as close as possible to the factory TRD Pro height and works properly with the factory FOX rear suspension.

Has anyone actually installed E86-82-103-01-20 on a 2018–2022 Sequoia TRD Pro?

I'm not looking for a big lift or hardcore off-road setup. This is primarily a daily-driven/family Sequoia. I'm just trying to find a quality solution to a broken $100-ish spring without spending $2,600+ replacing two otherwise-good FOX assemblies.

Would especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has:

• Re-sprung the factory Sequoia TRD Pro FOX shocks
• Used Dobinsons or another spring on the FOX shocks
• Converted a TRD Pro to Eibach Pro-Truck 2.0s
• Converted a TRD Pro to Bilstein 5100/6112s or another complete setup
• Found another solution I'm overlooking

Thanks!

Maintenance Help Vsc trac/vsc off fix

2002 sequoia sr5 4wd. Does anyone know what causes this? I drive it once a week, sits in the garage with the battery disconnected because it’ll drain the battery if I don’t. After 20ish minutes of driving the lights come on and just want to know if this is an easy fix.

Mainly worried this will cause it to not pass smog for whatever reason since I need to renew tags in October

Maintenance Help Lower Ball Joints

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hello, folks,

I made a post here last week. Thank you for welcoming me to the community!

I’ve recently been gifted a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. Though it has 251,000 miles, it’s in great condition. No check engine light, no rust, timing belt serviced recently, etc.

However, I don’t have any records for the replacement of the lower ball joints, so I’m left to assume that they’re original.

I understand that lower ball joints are notorious for failure on these things, but other than the mileage, I can’t find any evidence that they’re actually on their way out.

I just did my front brakes, and there wasn’t any play at all, or anything I could find that would worry me.

Do I keep driving it and keep an eye out, or should I preemptively replace the ball joints due to my mileage?

If I should go ahead and preemptively replace them, could someone drop a link to a trusted website that sells OEM parts?

TIA

Finally got the 2" OME lift in from first Gen.

Took an entire week, a few learning lessons, and a whole lot of blood and sweet.

The suspension was original and had 303k miles on it. The rear top strut bolts had to get sawzalled out. I put the LBJ's in the wrong LCA's and had to overnight new ones ($300 lesson).

Went on a maiden voyage last night and the noticeable change in how she drove was insane. No more body rolls on corners or bobbing up and down on dips.

The wheels look small now and with a cross country move coming up, I'll have to wait for new ones.

Whats the biggest tire y'all have fit on stock rims?

Don't mind my fuel door. The rivets gave out.

I will be going in again to check so please give me some tips next time I go before I consider buying it. They are asking $ 9650 before taxes. It's a 4wd, on sale at a Toyota dealership. Runs very smooth when I test drove it and it is being sold from a Toyota dealership. Got some front brake rotors and sock absorbers, wiper blades and some Battery cables changed. 2 previous owners. I didn't see any leaks anywhere. The car was initially purchased in Philly and was there for first 8 years, then it was purchased by 2nd owner in South Tenness and it's been with him for past 7 years.

Honestly I didn't know what else to look for.

I really love this car man, please guide me brothers. Thank you

Completely stripped it. Took off the actuator and watched about 30 YouTube videos. Nothing works, not sure if I need to try and get a wrench and try to undo the bolts. Should I spray a bunch of wd40 in it?Any suggestions?

Noticed a leak under my 2015 Toyota sequoia this morning. Was a pinkish red color thought it was coolant at first because it was already low. Looked under the car and saw this. I’m not sure if that’s the transmission or power steering fluid. 240k miles

Today I graduated from my 4Runner Venture — the vehicle we brought my son home from the hospital in and that carried our family from Texas to our forever home in Colorado — to my new 2026 Sequoia Limited with the TRD Off-road package. I know I’m going to miss my 4Runner dearly, but the whole family is already so in love with my new ride! Excited for the adventures ahead!
