As the title suggests. What is your favorite line from a side-character? Anyone and everyone from the show except Ricky, Julian, Bubbles, Randy, Lahey, J-roc, Cory and Trevor.

1. Jacob: Come on, Ricky. You've already gotten me fired from 9 jobs already this summer. I can't handle it!

2. Sarah: Julian, the only way Ricky can get smarter, is if he dies and comes back as a turnip.

I figured out why this show hits different for me. When I was a kid in the summer I’d wake up, walk down the street, knock on my friend’s door, and when he answered we’d both ask each other what we wanted to do. Neither of us ever had an answer. We’d just say “I don’t know” and then go find something dumb to get into. That was the whole day. No plans, no point, just whatever happened.

That’s exactly what TPB is. Nobody has a goal at the start of an episode. They’re just sitting around Sunnyvale until somebody floats a stupid idea and everyone goes along with it. Everybody lives close enough to walk to. They go to jail, come back, and everything is right where they left it. Nothing ever really matters and nothing sticks. As an adult where hanging out with your friends takes three texts and a scheduling conflict, watching a show where people just show up at each other’s doors with no plan is genuinely comforting. It’s not deep and it’s not trying to be. It’s just goofiness, and that’s the point.

This is probably the reason I just watch the show for what feels like every night for the last 15 years. Pure comfort and nostalgia to back to 1999.
