Music nowadays is just ads

I won't mention names but there is always two parts of social media. The glam and the shadowed. I have this producer been watching for a while , he locked in this year and every single day he drops a new beat daily and the quality is decent. There is another one who drops not soo good but he racks up 1/2 a milli views per video. One day i was watching YouTube video where this label exces casually stated that you can run ads but wont appear as ads since they paying behind closed doors. That why your favourite artist been relevant for years. Even if the post is very uninteresting it will always pop up first when you open your socials.

So yeah, its ads that don't appear to be ads. Even with good quality your content gets capped at a certain number while theirs is pushed to our faces

If metro bommin or Timberlake or dr dre was to give you their vault beats and you posted daily you still be getting your regular views because you ain't paid for your spot. Look up white Iversion and you'll realise the same trends

Beat Send

Would there be any issue with working from a mastered version of the beat? The unmastered beat is hitting around -6 dBFS, but once I start building the song around it, the Spinz doesn’t hit with the same impact. Should I push the beat louder in the mix before sending it over, or is it better to keep the instrumental at around -6 dBFS and leave the headroom for the vocal and final master?

Time is also a resource, treat it wisely

All big producers when advising small upcoming producers are always like you got to make more beats and more than most. 20 a week. In any other manufacturing industry they would tell you this wont work. The supply must meet demand and even so there are limitations to making more products like raw materials labor and whatever. As a music producer This limitations are narrowed since getting raw materials for beat making is relatively easy and so we tend to make more and more hoping a big artist will discover you and suddenly you getting dms from everyone in the game. Few reach this threshold i included

And i realised alot of time has passed as i blindly made more and more beats which sit on my hard drives. I send free beats out never get any feedback. And am slowly quitting, developing a more hands free approach where I have a job that pays for the bills and the beat making left for whenever. Anyway no regrets. Alot i have learnt i couldn't have juggling between a job and production. But now i may need a shack to crush hoping for a sunny day.

Don't let life pass you by. Play it smart G

Thinking about getting into loop making

ive been making beats for years, have quite a few placements (although very small artists)

i usually like making cloud rap sorta stuff, asap rocky, yung lean, fakemink,

I realised recently that im better at the melody, samples side , the drums im fine at but the melody side is my strength. So im thinking about getting in to just the loop/sample creation side

do many producers like using them? especially in the cloud rap kinda space?

One thing holding me back is it just seems also like the chances of getting placements (which is the best part of producing actually hearing ur creation in collaboration with an artist come to life) is a lot slimmer.

Though I also feel like niching down to what i'm best at and still enjoy a lot might be a good direction to go.

Would love to hear thoughts from people that use loops and make them too. Thank you 🙏

I'm trying to make grime beats in the style of Skepta and Stormzy, but I'm looking for a modern and crisp sound. Which drum kits would you recommend? Also, are there any vsts that you would recommend?

THIS IS NOT AI. A human wrote this... cause' summa ya'll 😂

After years of working in the industry I can't say that I have seen this specific place that he's talking about, but what I have seen inside of Universal Records in New York City... after meeting with an a&r having him walk me to and almost dumpster sized _/ shaped garbage bin filled with people's demos. Fish through it a little bit.. grab a couple, and pass them to me. He then said there's some bangers in here.. A lot of good songs. Why don't you copy a couple of these.. bring them back we'll get you a check.

My Dad was a jazz pioneer, who worked with all of the greats Cab Calloway, Ella Fitzgerald, etc. I grew up seeing admired artists being exploited so I never had a good view of the industry. It was never glamorous to me so my friends and I took a different route and started our own label.

It wasn't easy but on our first drop we sold 50k units. ...After my car accident I fell back and started licensing music for film and television, working with Independent artists, a few (Major) A listers etc. I even did a joint venture with LA Reid and Russell Simmons.

It wasn't easy but I got to see my old business partner land a number one on the billboard charts Independently!

No compromise whatsoever. We did not sell our souls. We did not compromise our values. We work for ourselves, raised our children, fed our families, traveled, and experienced the best of what the world has to offer, but didn't get caught up in it. I could care less about a Porsche GT3, or a 18 room mansion, but I drove one and lived in one.

This is sort of like a PSA to young people coming up. Don't get caught up in the marketing fluff, and the hype. These folks will sell you the idea that you could lay around all day getting high, and sleeping with hotties being worshiped like that's some sort of dream life when in all reality they're making you a tool and a slave, and if you try to help people.. to make a difference they will cut you down and destroy your life because they made you they can end you.

It's all because you sold your soul to them. People always think the devil is some sort of big red monster with horns, but really he's that friendly rich weirdo that thinks you're sexy and will let you drive his Lamborghini. He'll give you gifts, flatter you, and change your life. Give you more money than you've ever seen. I say that's the devil. Drug sex and music. He'll keep you distracted like a baby with a pacifier and keep all the milk for himself. And not only will he take the milk but he will can it and sell it to your mother, your children, and even you rationing your share so that you can't leave. That is the devil. 💯

Sober up!! And I don't mean that like a disrespectful way of saying that you're a druggie, but what I mean is put down the distractions. Get serious about what it is that you're doing. Learn the business. Master your skill set. Do something meaningful. Consider your future. Not just your own but 10 generations down the line.

What kind of world would you like to create. What kind of world would you like to live in? The power is in your hands. You can control the narrative. You could write songs about shaking your butt, or take charge of your post and walk it in a perfect manner. Seek out the best part of yourself (and others) and settle on that.

We all have gifts. You're not better than anyone else, and neither am I. The only way that we can truly excel one another is in righteousness. Obedience to a higher calling and I don't care what you call that God, Universal Law, Allah, Alignment with the Tao, Natural Order, Dharma, Walking The Razor's Edge... Only truth is Eternal. Everything else fades, and you are not promised tomorrow so the idea of 'living your best life' has to be rooted in something Eternal.. not folly, else it will be living outside of life itself in death and destruction.. iow you either build or destroy... Your choice. You manifest your own reality.

Stop acting like you know what you're doing, and take charge of your life. Stop being a selfish jerk, and give... It's ok to not know.. Learn. It's ok to fail... Get back up and work at it. Life is messy. Organize, get rid of the clutter... Manage your time... Be early, work better not harder, get some rest. I mean that... Sleep. Don't outwork everyone and never sleep.. That's just a marketing campaign from the slave masters to build a better slave.

When (or if) you have children be a better parent than your parents were.. Be the best! Love don't waste time on hate. Live full (give your all) and die empty (because you can't take it with you). You will make yourself Eternal by the way that you live. Make the best part your legacy. We remember horrible people yes, but as examples of what not to do not to be lifted up as selfish stars who were reckless and burned themselves out before their time... That my friend is what the soulless industry will do to you. Kill you with your own mouth, can the milk and sell it.

We are gathering the ones who still remember how to hear the truth. Not to build an empire, but to reclaim our inheritance. If you feel a fire growing while reading this that's your soul waking up from the anesthesia. YOU are EXACTLY who we're looking for. We are meeting on Zoom tomorrow morning at 12:15 Eastern Standard Time, not to sell you a dream, but to anchor ourselves in the Eternal. Come chop it up with us. Let’s put down the distractions, step out of the noise, and give back some of this Earth to the needy. We have the power to feed the hungry, heal the broken, and leave this place better than we found it. It's time to stop dreaming and do.

I truly hope this helps someone.

All of my best,

LoveExcelsAll

Sending out beats: mp3s as email attachment vs packs

been sending out beats for a while I've always just sent them attached to emails, never really bothered with packs. Though, im hearing that a lot of people use packs and some artists prefer them.

I thought the email attachment is easier as theres no extra step for the artist of opening google drive or drop box.

Wanted to get you guys opinion on whats working for you, pros and cons, etc.

Thank you 🙏

Why my beat hits harder after I processed it in my iPhone?

I am genuenily curious how this happened eventhough it happened by chance.

I screen recorded the file of my beat in google drive with my iPhone and then I saved the recording as a draft for an instagram story. Then I downloaded the draft story from instagram and when I listened to it and compared to my original beat in google drive, it clearly hits harder and has more punch, even if some people would argue is just over-saturated.

The crazy thing is that this is the exact effect I have been trying to emulate from the plugg producers I like and I have never been capable. It may be as simple as saturating the mixed signal by using a distortion or a limiter, but I have never been able to fully do it until now by pure chance.

Hear the two links and give me your thoughts. I donÂŽt know if this happened when i screen-recorded or when I uploaded to instagram, I believe it was the screen-recording, but my question really is how can I create this effect within the confines of my DAW:

This is the original file:

https://savedly.net/f/2cenmh2g (beat starts at 00:17 after intro)

This is the screen-recorded version downloaded from instagram:

https://savedly.net/f/wh9uefcd

Really i want to know how to make this exact same effect within my daw, thats it. All help welcome

I need help. I'm new to writing lyrics and I want to practice writing lyrics over a beat, but I can't find a good beat. Can you please help?

I started writing rap lyrics as a hobby, but I can't find a good beat. Can anyone help me? I want to write lyrics over a beat to improve myself; I don't want a very fast beat, something between 85 and 90 beats would be great. Thanks in advance

Is it possible for a producer starting with no connections or or friends or nothing to get signed? Does everybody know somebody? How does that work? Of course hard work but like lucking up with a big placement from a YouTube beat?

More drum layers vs. more space: what actually gives trap beats better bounce?

I keep noticing that trap drums get weaker when I add layers just because the beat feels too empty in solo.

A kick, 808, snare, hats and one or two percussion accents can already feel complete when every sound has a clear role. The kick gives the front edge, the 808 owns the low end and the hats create movement. Once I add extra claps, open hats, textures and parallel chains, the loop can sound more impressive by itself but leave less room for the melody and the artist.

The opposite problem is real too. Keeping everything too clean can make the drums feel generic, especially when the same velocity and spacing repeat every eight bars.

What has helped me most is changing rhythm before adding another sound: muting one kick, shifting a hat, shortening an 808 or saving one transition hit for the section change. Small moves often create more bounce than a new layer.

I also try to judge the drums under the melody at a lower volume. If the groove still reads without every element fighting for attention, the beat usually feels easier to arrange. Processing still matters, but I am starting to treat saturation and clipping as finishing tools, not replacements for sound selection and pockets.

When your drums feel basic, do you reach for another layer or change the pattern first? What gives you more bounce without overcrowding the beat?

Looking for someone really good with 808s — Ableton only

Hey!

I’m looking for someone who’s really good at processing 808s in Ableton.

I already have several professionally mixed/mastered tracks where the 808s work well, but I feel like I’m still missing that extra punch, character and control you hear in some really heavy trap productions.

I’m prettyy comfortable with Ableton, and play daily with FabFilter, Decapitator, etc.

The main things I’m struggling with:

  • Big multi-octave glides. When my 808 goes up one or two octaves, the upper frequencies/harmonics quickly get out of control. I want to keep those huge movements clean and fat across the whole range.
  • That kind of “delayed ignition” some 808s have: the sub seems to hit immediately, but the character/upper frequencies open up slightly afterwards, without losing the initial low-end impact.
  • Getting more power and character without simply making the 808 louder.
  • Getting that bright/crystallized texture over a huge sub without the high end becoming a mess.

SCH’s A7 (see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Grpe_c1asOo) and VNTM (see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIqPzehJsLc), and some #JeSuisPassĂ©ChezSo productions are good references for the kind of 808 processing I’m talking about.

Basically, I want to understand how to make an 808 behave the way I want it to, rather than just finding settings that happen to work.

I’d like to go through some of my existing Ableton projects together and understand the processing rather than have someone do it for me.

Paid sessions obviously.

If that’s really your thing, send me a DM!

EDIT: post mistakes

What kind of effects do you put on your drums to make them sound a bit more interesting.

I feel like my drum programming is pretty good, but at the same time it usually sounds pretty basic. I listen to producers like krxxk and bleachdiego and I feel like their drums always sound very interesting.

Where to find a legit mix/master engineer for beats? (Weekly/regular basis)

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a professional engineer for regular beat mixing and mastering (experienced only, please).

I like my own mix balances/effects, but I can never get that commercial loudness and size for online release.

I'm looking for someone high-tier to work with on a weekly (or more frequent) basis and want to lock in a consistent rate.

If you want a steady, ongoing client, drop your portfolio or rates below.

Thanks!
