I’ve been converted

Always a dog person before this but when my son moved back home with his cat we got Purina Live Clear for him because I’m allergic. Fast forward 2 years and we are now the proud parents of 2 unrelated kitties. This is Cambridge all stretched out, and his sister London lying on the back of my chair. Cambridge is a mixed Maine Coon. I’m in love.

I always thought I wasn’t a cat person. My husband and I said we’d never own cats!!! Fast forward 6 years to 2019 and we got our first cat. A tortie named Holly Jo. She taught me how to love her and not try to love on her too much. She slept on my foot or my ankle but she did not need attention. I loved her so much. We got another baby girl for her to have as a friend. Now forward to 2026 and we have 8 of these precious fur babies. It hurt so bad when I had to say goodbye to Holly Jo and I just felt lost but there are so many cats out there that need homes and that was a way to honor my beautiful girl. Your girls are beautiful!!! I truly would like to own a Maine Coon one day too. Thank you for sharing Cambridge and London with us!!!🩷🩷

Holly Jo you taught me how to love a cat and I miss you still everyday😢🩷♾️🥰🌈

Aw thx! I should mention that both are rescues! I looked for a MAINE COON rescue for years and sweet Cambridge came into our lives. Meanwhile, we are jockeying for 50/50 custody of my son’s adult orange tabby.

I’m so sorry you lost her. Holly is my sister’s name btw. And I told a friend today they are addictive. Hence crazy cat ladies can’t help but rescue them!

My husband loves cats too!!!! He was the one that said we would take the three babies we just got. We believe in making sure babies that need a home have one. We should just get a huge home just to rescue cats if we could afford it!!!!

Couldn’t have a kitten or two without it. 😍

So it actually works? I was thinking of starting allergy shots again bc my 2-3 daily zyrtecs might not be enough for my two angel babies

Works for my husband (thank god as I was desperate to get a cat again and had resisted our entire time dating). He even rubs his face in her fur! However, it does not work for my cousin at all. She still needed to take zyrtec.

You can supplement the live clear with other allergy supporting additives but they end up being really expensive toppers.

ETA: we have a rag doll if that's helpful at all (++ fluffy).

Thank you, I will try it out, as if i miss one dose of zyrtec im dying. The boys like to sleep at my head so im inhaling their dander all night.

Yes! I was shocked. I transitioned my son’s cat over 2 weeks and it says it takes a couple of weeks to work. But I couldn’t walk into a room with a single cat without having a major histamine reaction. Now these babies are all me and no problem. My vet confirmed that it does really work. Yeah, that’s a lot of Zyrtec! I still take the occasional Allegra for seasonal allergies. But that food was a game changer. So thrilled to be empty nesters with kitties who found a loving home. Just give it a good month to really kick in since you don’t want to upset their tummies!

There is no one as devoted as a convert! Welcome to the club! Beautiful fur babies. We need lots of photos as they grow.

My very first cats were part Maine Coons! We lived in Maine when we adopted them coincidentally lol. I was 6 when we brought them home. The boy, Milo, unfortunately died young from what we suspect was a heart murmur. His sister Joyce (who has lived with my aunt uncle since we moved to California in 2011) lived to be 19 years old and only just passed this past saturday. I hope you get many long years with your adorable kitties!!

I'm looking for a maine coon now, and I found one that I fell in love with, but apartment living can be problematic. All of mine are rescues, and I've never had one sneak around and become a family member, or bring their family and friends with them. My husband is a truck driver, home every three months. He would have a heart attack coming home and finding a blissful of new cats in our house. I would take them all, and he knows it.

There are Maine Coon rescues. They have all sorts of requirements but you may find one that’s close to you and works.

Thank you for that tidbit. I'm sorry I didn't reply at an earlier time, but I just noticed this response.
