Here are 5 moves to shut it off, the switch is hidden in two places:

The Main Switch

This is the main setting Google shows you, but it's not the only one.

Gmail (Desktop):

⚙️ Settings → See all settings → Smart features and personalization → Uncheck "Turn on smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet" → Save Changes.

The Hidden Switch

Turning off the first setting isn't enough. Most people stop there.

On the same settings page: Google Workspace smart features → Manage Workspace smart feature settings → Turn off both checkboxes → Save.

Both settings need to be turned off.

Your Phone

The settings don't always sync between devices, so check the Gmail app separately.

Gmail app → Menu (☰) → Settings → Select your account → Turn off "Smart features and personalization" → Confirm.

Delete Gemini History

If you've used Gemini before, your chats may be saved, and some could be reviewed by humans.

Go to http://myactivity.google.com/product/gemini
 → Turn off Gemini Apps Activity → Delete Activity → All Time.

This removes your past Gemini chat history and stops future conversations from being saved.

Move Sensitive Emails

Turning off Gmail's smart features helps, but for truly private emails, consider using a separate service.

For medical, legal, or financial emails, use a free Tuta Mail account. It offers end-to-end encryption and doesn't use AI to scan your emails.

Keep Gmail for newsletters, promotions, and less sensitive messages - if you must.

I want to create an account but it asks to create a password, I don't want to enter a password because it's a secret, I don't want tuta to know it

I'm having a really frustrating experience with Tuta/Tutanota's email filtering system.

I need incoming emails from specific senders to be automatically moved to their corresponding folders. I have created filters for this, but for some reason they simply don't work.

For example, I want all emails coming from:

[no-reply@vinted.es](mailto:no-reply@vinted.es)

to be automatically moved to my Vinted folder.

I have created the filter and configured it accordingly, but the emails still stay in my inbox instead of being moved.

The strange thing is that I have an almost identical filter for Amazon, and that one works perfectly.

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem with emails from Strava and Wallapop. The filters are created, the folders exist, but the emails are not automatically moved.

Has anyone else experienced this with Tuta/Tutanota?

Is there something special about how Tuta handles filters depending on the sender, or is the filtering system simply unreliable?

At the moment it's extremely frustrating because one of the main reasons I use filters is to keep my inbox properly organized, and having some filters work while others with basically the same configuration don't makes no sense.

Any help or explanation would be appreciated.

Few days ago I registered in app " Плати по миру" - virtual card for paying for services and purchases around the world.

But the verification code to log into the app arrives in my email with a significant delay—several hours or even the next day. In this case, it's no longer valid. And I can't log into the app or change my email address.

All other emails from various domains: .com, .ru, etc. arrive regularly and quickly.

Does anyone know is there a solution to this problem?

Just started migrating all my Gmail & other stuff to Tuta, but I’m having a few issues…starting with this:

I’m on an iPhone 17e with the latest iOS 26.

when a calendar event is triggered I get two notifications. one from tutamail and one from the calendar app. what do I have to change to just get one?

i have few suggestions:

• pls add an option while viewing emails to load external linked graphics used in that email. some newsletter are absolutely not readable, because not all used graphics are embedded. I know it’s a security thing not to do this automatically, but I’d like the option to decide that personally.

• is it possible (if not, pls add this) to slide from left to right while viewing an email to move to the next or back to the last mail in my inbox. it’s pretty annoying and time consuming to always get back to the inbox and choose them manually.

• Sometimes the inbox seems to be a bit laggy

I suddenly got logged out of my free tuta account. Now it says wrong password.

I used my recovery code to reset, but it now asking for 2FA.

I have not setup 2FA.

Is my account stolen? Is there any way to get it back?

I am new to tuta and trying to learn how it works. When trying to create a Contact list (Family, Friends, Work, etc) it appears that in order to be added to the list they must have an email and the email is only shown in the list (not the contact's name). Is this true? If so, that pretty much renders that feature useless to me. An email address isn't indicative of who that contact is in many cases. And creating a "fake" email just to enter them in the list seems counter productive. Someone please tell me that I am missing something. Also, dragging a contact from the "All" list to a created list would be much easier.

I created my Tuta account with a @tuta.com address and paid for one month. After that, I cancelled the payment mandate so it won't renew.

Does the account get revoked or suspended once the paid period ends?
Is the account "held hostage" until you pay again, i.e., locked or inaccessible?
I'm not using any plus features like aliases, calendars, etc. — only paid to get the tuta.com domain.
Once it lapses, will the account just be treated as a regular free account — including getting deleted after 6 months of inactivity?

Anyone been through this exact situation? What actually happens to the account and the @tuta.com address after the subscription lapses?

The current widget is very large. I would like to suggest to make the existing widget resizable, so that it only shows the next 2-3 calendar activities.

So for some reason Im barely getting notifications from the tutamail app,battery optimization is off and notifications perms on (obviously)and i think this is a known issue but not sure

I am looking to set up a Tuta account (Paid) but firstly need to know if I can easily separate the email addresses in the app.

I need at least two email addresses but need to be able to see them separately, Had this problem with Proton where within the app you could not easily separate them so in essence I can't work with a unified inbox if the two addresses which would hve distinctive purposes appear in one inbox -0 Any advice?

I’m considering Tuta as my long-term email provider, and I have a question about mailbox portability and backups.

As far as I can see, it currently does not seem possible to export a complete Tuta mailbox as an MBOX file while preserving the folder and subfolder structure. Is this correct?

If so, is MBOX export something Tuta is considering or planning for the future?

I’ve been using Tuta for many years, and I fully intend for Tuta to remain my “lifetime email” going forward. However, having the option to create a complete MBOX backup of my mailbox would give me a great sense of security and confidence in long-term data ownership.

For me, this is not because I plan to leave Tuta, but because I want to know that I can always preserve and recover my complete email archive, including its folder structure, independently of the service.

Is this something Tuta has considered?

ich habe folgendes Problem:

Vorgeschichte:
vor einigen Monaten (September 2025) hatte ich versuchsweise einen kostenfreien Tuta-Account erstellt. Dieser wurde - vermutlich wegen Inaktivität - gelöscht. Soweit klar und erwartbar, aber nun kommt das...

...eigentliche Problem:

Vor ein paar Wochen habe ich dann einen neuen Account ("Bezahl-Account") erstellt, dabei konnte ich die gleiche Mail-Adresse wählen wie bei meinem ersten (gelöschten) Account.

Diesen neuen "Bezahl-Account" konnte ich problemlos erstellen und für einige Tage problemlos nutzen, der Betrag für ein Jahr wurde von Tutoa auch bereits von meiner Kreditkarte abgebucht.

Mittlerweile (2-3 Wochen nach Erstellung des neuen Accounts) kann ich mich allerdings nicht mehr einloggen, es erscheint die Meldung "Ungültige Zugangsdaten. Bitte versuche es erneut.".

Tippfehler o.ä. sind ausgeschlossen, da ich die Zugangsdaten mittels Passwortmanager inkl. Kopie gespeichert und dreifach gesichert habe und auch bei der erfolgreichen Nutzung vor ca. 2-3 Wochen exakt so verwendet habe. Auch eine Wiederherstellung mit Recovery-Code funktioniert nicht.

Meine einzige Vermutung: Das Problem könnte damit im Zusammenhang stehen, dass ich bei meinen ursprünglichen Tests im Jahr 2025 die gleiche Mail-Adresse wie jetzt gewählt hatte... aber wie erwähnt: der neue (Bezahl-) Account liess sich problemlos erstellen und zumindest für ein paar Tage nutzen... eine versuchte Wiederherstellung des alten (gelöschten) Accounts war mittels "altem" Recovery-Code übrigens auch nicht möglich.

Ich habe das Problem vor Tagen an "hello@tutao.de" gemeldet, aber bisher keine Antwort erhalten; den "richtigen" Support kann ich nicht kontaktieren, da ich mich nicht einloggen/anmelden kann... aus dem gleichen Grund kann ich den Account auch nicht kündigen... telefonisch ist dort auch niemand zu erreichen.

Sprich: Ich kann den neu erstellten, kostenpflichtigen Account (obwohl ich ihn per Abbo bereits bezahlt habe) weder nutzen noch kündigen; auch Nutzung des Recovery Codes nützt nichts; Tutao reagiert nicht, aber mein Geld wurde offensichtlich gerne genommen...
Nichts für ungut, aber ein zuverlässiger Mail-Provider sollte anders arbeiten...

Gibt es für das Problem irgendeine Lösung, z.B.:
- Tutao zu einer Reaktion/Antwort zu bringen
- oder den Account auch ohne Anmeldedaten irgendwie zu kündigen?
- und/oder das bezahlte Geld zurück zu erhalten (mir gefällt das Gefühl nicht, einen Account zu zahlen, dessen Nutzung blockiert ist und bei Zahlung per Kreditkarte kann ich das Geld wohl mittlerweile nicht mehr einfach rückbuchen)
