I headed along to the first public consultation this evening to ask a few questions. Some a bit local in nature, but some more broad.

The station names are not set in stone. The names for the stations will be chosen by the public at a future date.

I asked about how the Washington loop will work operationally. The Yellow/Green line already splits a Pelaw. This will now split it 3 ways. Will the line do a full loop then come back the other way? Will there be a terminus somewhere that will essentially split the green line in to 2 separate lines? This is a big signalling headache. They don't know. Yet. I got the feeling they did know roughly, but nobody there was willing to go in to details. They are working on that now and should have that ready for consultation at the end of the year.

I asked about the Leamside Line extension, a separate project to reopen the line from Newcastle to Ferrybridge and on the the ECML. Opening the possibility for freight detour and free up the ECML for passenger services. This will use the most northern section of that line. I asked if it had been considered to build any of the stations to mainline standard; platform lengths etc. It had been considered. Washington North and South will both have the space required to extend the platforms, but will initially just be built to Metro specs.

Managed to spot Network Rail’s Track Recording Unit (⁠950001⁠) pulling into Chester today!

Although it looks like a standard Class 150 Sprinter, BR only ever built one Class 950!

Sad its days on the mainline are numbered though.

From today for a period of 8 weeks Tuesday-Thursday there will be 4 trains per day between Kidderminster and Bewdley for national ticket holders to use. With tickets between Kidderminster and Bewdley being £2 singles or £3.60 return with through ticketing to Birmingham Central stations for £16 return from Bewdley. Services are operated by Severn Valley Railway for West Midlands Railway using there heritage fleet of steam and diesel rolling stock.

A situation came up today and I am looking for your collective knowledge to give me an answer.

Network Railcard has a £13 minimum fare for adults, and a £1 minimum fare for children.

Children can travel with a cardholder and save 60% off the child fare.

My question is, can the Railcard Holder buy a ticket in possession of a valid railcard, without using the railcard (it is cheaper without as the fare is below £13), and then travel with the child using the railcard discount on the child's ticket?

I left a bag on a train this morning on the way up to city, the train I took was a Bognor Regis service that left at 05:56.

I got off at east Croydon but only took my work bag with me and left a gym bag on the train.

This would’ve gotten into LV at about 8am.

My question is would it have been taken to Lost Property by the cleaners? As I rang up LV lost property and they didn’t have it.

Any chance it would’ve made it back down to Bognor?

I need to work out whether I should bother visiting the lost property office after work later.

How many companies / services are there that go from a London terminal to a Birmingham main station (not necessarily as its last stop)?
