I retired as a teamster truck driver and took a part-time job driving a tri axle for a contractor. We agreed to $30 an hour. I thought this guy just did work for private individuals and residences or businesses.

Well, I started driving the truck for him and he’s having me haul into and haul out of government funded jobs like municipal Park restorations where he is the general contractor. The workers on the job site are getting prevailing wage.

There are specific rules for truck drivers to be eligible for prevailing wage on these kinds of jobs. I work for the general contractor driving his truck. I’m bringing in gravel and topsoil from supply yards and taking out waste material like concrete asphalt to dump areas.

I did not work in the construction area of truck driving before this. Located in Pennsylvania.

Am I eligible?

I have a friend who who’s come to me interested in organizing his workplace, I’ve given him a lot of advice, plugged him in with some experienced people and also sent him some articles online.

He’s a really big fan of podcast though, so I’ve been trying to find some podcast or YouTube videos to send him, but I don’t really know of any.

Was hoping I could get some recommendations on what I could send him

Do any of your unions use online voting for ratifying contracts?
We’re trying to find a secure/anonymous voting system online to get as many members as we can.

title says it all. i’m working to get a drag union started in the state of florida. it would in essence be a way to support drag entertainers and help us demand fairer wages and fight against certain issues the community faces at times (lack of inclusiveness, discrimination, etc.). thing is, i don’t think there an established union specifically for drag performers. i was wondering if anyone had any possible leads or could recommend a broader union to join. or even possibly propose a framework for our unions based on other unions. i appreciate any and all suggestions, thank you.

My workplace has been heavily overworked and understaffed and I have constantly been hearing coworkers complaining about it so I feel like it is a good time to start trying to organize. A different location has already gotten unionized last year so I think it is within the realm of possibility. I want to talk to my coworkers about it but I don't want to be so obvious that I get reported and fired. The company I work for is a mega union buster. Any advice?

My union steward in the past has been very unresponsive. She doesn’t return calls. And returns emails maybe half the time. She often seems annoyed when she has to do things.

Was wondering if anyone has ever experienced something like this and has any advice on how to navigate situations like this?

I'm president of my local, we have 5 different employers with their own collective agreements. I do not work at the workplace in question so I have no stakes or previous relationships with those involved. But basically there's a situation where following the collective agreement is the correct thing to do, and we're legally bound to it. But the result is going to be so catastrophically unjust for a member and I feel absolutely sick about it.

Have any of you had to deal with a situation like this in the past and how do you navigate it?

Even that worst off company in my industry has gotten a revamped contract! My company has been absolutely grasping at straws to feign competitiveness

What should I do without saying they should ban it. Because I feel like I'm already not very liked

I am looking into starting in the concrete union soon and I was just wondering if I will still be able to indulge in recreational marijuana or if that is a no go. I know they drug test at the start of employment but do they do random drug tests throughout the year and if so am I gonna get fired?
