Used clicker

So I have to buy a clicker for my Bio class, I was curious if there was anyone that had an old one that they were willing to sell? If not it’s chill I’ll figure it out!

I think I finally tossed it, sorry. Also, if I remember correctly she also uses the app (iClicker app I think?) to take roll. So the app may be a better route.

The class is dense. Don’t let its ‘100 level’ fool you. Go to class, participate in study groups, stop by the tutoring center on occasion and meet with Dr. Oswald herself. She gets a bad rap, but she’s incredibly approachable and genuinely wants students to succeed in her class. If you pass this class with flying colors I’d argue every class after is a cakewalk.

iClicker i believe was $50 for a semester?

if op plans on taking 115 for their major, get the year-long subscription!!

I’m pretty certain she had gotten in trouble in fall 2020 for not accommodating online students who physically couldn’t get to class 🙃 I know that was the reason I had failed it and then got an A the next semester when I could, yknow, go to class.

many professors at the university didnt do well because their classes are in-person by design. covid was hard for everyone. no one knew what to do. especially courses with labs, like bio/chem/ag.

i think she’s a wonderful professor, and that is directly because she doesn’t listen to excuses beyond university-accepted absences. you cant blame her, when she has ≈200 students in a class and teaches multiple courses per semester. this is why they are called weed-out classes, so only people dedicated to getting their education remain.

she doesnt have time to be one-on-one with people like high school teachers, or even upper level instructors in a class of 30 students.

I actually really liked Oswald, I had her way back in 2015.  She is tough but fair, there is a ton of resources she sends your way and you can request office hours and she will devote the time to you if you devote the time to her class.

she was my favorite gen-ed professor after taking her classes. at the time of taking them, i dreaded going and dreaded the exams. but that is why she was good. i really felt like i was learning the entire time.

Agreed, her classes taught me how to treat my core classes and how much effort I needed to do to actually retrain and conceptualize the information. 

She's not just teaching Biology, she's teaching study skills, how to use your T.A and office hours, how to find other study materials and make connections with other students.

114 was easy, 115 was definitely harder. it’s a weed-out class and she KNOWS that. you actually have to study for the exams, but she does stress the information you really need to remember. the labs show up in the exams too.

don’t just remember terminology, connect them together, paint a bigger picture. dr. amin always told us to “tell a story” with the information. it really helps.

if you absolutely bomb exam 1, go to SI PASS. get some people together for your own study group. i got a C on the first test and still ended with a B+. there is always time to lock tf in, but waiting until finals week is not a good idea.

I failed first 114 with a 69.4, taking again this year. Makes me VERY excited for 115. Im not a fan of Oswald. Yes its a weed out class, but the amount of work you have to put in to pass her sometimes poorly worded exams is excruciating.

You might be able to ask on a general college subreddit and ask them to ship it for you or something

I had her in fall of 2019 (if I remember correctly) and I don’t remember it being too difficult-it also wasn’t the easiest either. There are resources to help with the material-check out the 2nd floor of the library and talk to the TAs.

I found the class to be super easy even though I attended only about 60 percent of the lectures. I got an "A." Pretty straightforward concept memorization.
