Can you do both? As in, be an RA and have an on-campus job? The positions for being a student receptionist for CAS Advising opens up tomorrow and doing office work is like the best thing ever for me. Was wondering if it was at all possible to do both?

Hi so I heard theft is really common, I’m someone who has prescription medications and a laptop. Is getting a safe worth the $100 or will a burglar just take it too? I am planning to register all my devices and never leave them unattended (unless of course they were in my bedroom). I know the doors lock automatically. How common are robberies?

EDIT: I want to mention that some of my prescriptions are things people would want to steal. Now I know I don’t need to worry about the laptop in the room, but I do want to know about the medications.

Hi so I’m trying to figure out bedding for my dorm, and have just realized the beds aren’t even twin xl like they claim to be!! They are hospital bed size (36 x 80 inches). Can anyone who has lived in the dorms and bought twin XL (39 x 80 inches) give their two cents? Did the twin XL stuff work for putting on the bed or did you have issues with it not fitting right? Also, if anyone has lived in GSH, what did the beds feel like? I assume painful because for orientation I slept on the beds in Justice Bean Hall and they were terribly uncomfortable. One other thing- I am a side sleeper and constantly suffer from back pain, are they any mattress toppers I should steer clear from? Have any recommendations of mattress toppers that are good for back support?

I am a prospective student applying for the sociology PhD this admissions cycle. I have a lot of questions, if anyone can answer any of them. Thank you!

I am a wheelchair user and rather disabled. What’s the acquiring accommodations process like? How is the accessibility department? Are they good with grad students? What does the winter maintenance on campus look like? How are the winters? Is the university good at salting the roads? How close are disabled parking spots to the halls on campus? Would I have to travel far?

I am considering living on campus as well, because I know it’s often cheaper and easier to get around to classes that way. Is it easy to access accessible units? What do those look like? What is the application process like? What proof of disability does the housing department need?

I need quite a bit of specialized healthcare because of my disabilities. What is the on campus healthcare clinic like? Is there a pharmacy on campus? Are there specialists nearby? The specialists I’d be looking for are a cardiologist, a rheumatologist, a neurologist, a psychiatrist, a trauma-informed therapist trained in EMDR and disassociative disorders, pain management, a specialized orthopedic surgeon, and a podiatrist.

I’m also looking for faculty to be on my doctoral committee. I want to study medical sociology, specifically healthcare disparities among disabled populations, maybe particularly in emergency care. Is there any faculty member whose studies align with my research interests, and who is taking on grad students? If you have their emails as well, that would be amazing.

I plan on attempting to TA during my PhD to pay for as much as possible. I’m getting a degree in psychology, sociology, and queer studies, so I’d be happy to teach anything to do with those subjects. What is that process like? How well are grad TAs paid? Does the school offer y’all insurance too? How is that? What are the benefits like?

Is there anything else I should know about the PhD application process or this school? What would you have liked to know going in?

I’m currently a senior right now and I’m trying to apply for UO but I have one problem. The university requires 3 years of sciences and I have completed 2 years and 1 semester. I failed a semester of AP chem in junior year with a D and now I’m one semester behind to meet the requirement. My school will not let me take a different science course this year and I don’t know what to do

The position said it's FTE 1.0 and it pays an hourly wage but the office hours for the department I applied at are from 10am to 4pm. So if you include the 1-hr lunch break, that's not really full-time. So would I still be paid for full-time hours (40hrs) or am I only paid for the hours worked because it's not a salaried position?

It also said that it was an academic-year position with reduced hours in July and August, despite it being a non-faculty role.

It's an office role. Does that mean pay will be reduced in the summer for however many hours you end up working? I was under the impression that classified roles (which this role is) are year-round, based on my experiences working at other universities and schools.

I've moved forward in the application process, but I want to know what all these mean in the event I get hired for the job. I'm definitely going to ask about these when I interview, but I'd like to see if anyone here might know the answer before I go in.

Sorry if it all sounds silly, I'm between jobs right now. I haven't had an hourly position in almost a decade, and I've also been living abroad since 2018 until now, so I am super rusty on how all this works.
