Dark green UG

My second large compote from LG Wright(1970s) came today, and I figured I would share in case you haven't seen dark uranium glass. This color was only officially made by Viking on paper. The compotes are 10.5" tall, and weigh about 8lbs each. The 365nm glow is quenched by some additive (iron?). They glow best in 395nm and read about 60cpm on a GMC-800.

I found some very spicy dark green plates and was wondering why they wouldn't glow with my uv light, maybe I need to try a different nm light! These are beautiful btw

Thank you! Yes I believe the darker color is from iron additives, which block UV. 395nm still shines pretty well.

We found a very spicy dark green plate and it turns out it was thorium! It also doesn't glow at all

Yes, I think I might use them for wine glasses to celebrate, once my wife can drink 😂. Too much? 🤔

Dadgum. Just when I swear off blind dark green buys I get these reminders. In my mind it's the ol' "If you need a sign to bind but that piece you've been watching, this it."

... Hope to report next week that my 9th (eh, or 90th, not sure) blind buy of dark green glass turns up UG. 😂
