Hey everyone!

I’m an incoming Faculty of Science freshman at UVic and I’m hoping to meet some people before I arrive on campus.

I figured it would be cool to make some new friends/e-friends beforehand, get to know some fellow first-years, and maybe have a few familiar faces when we finally get to campus. I’d also love to stay connected throughout our studies and potentially study together, explore Victoria, grab food, or just hang out.

I’m interested in tech, AI/ML, science, fitness, and learning new things, but honestly I’m down to talk about pretty much anything.

So my glasses r in terrible shape and my eyesight has probably definitely gotten. I want to get my eyes checked and a new glasses but cant afford to spend a lot. Can sm1 tell me the steps to get them? Preferably smwhere I can use my student discount?

Hi guys I was just wondering what sorts of events happen during the first week of school? So far I’ve signed myself up for the “New Student Welcome” in the morning and then my faculty orientation but I was wondering if there’s anything else I should sign up for as I’m coming to uvic with no friends!

I was also wondering what the dorm orientation entails as I haven’t seen much info about it online other than some sort of group dinner?

Last question is about thunderfest! Is this more like a need friends kind of thing or is it possible to solo it if I don’t make any friends that quickly? Also just wondering about what sorts of things happen during it!

Any info or tips to surviving first year is welcome thank you in advance !

Hello, I am a incoming first year student and I have been considering applying for on campus jobs. I was wondering about people who worked on campus jobs and their experiences.

How much did you get paid hourly? How many hours were you given weekly? What type of job was it? Was it difficult to balance your schedule with your commits to work? How flexible were they during exam season? Was is it difficult to find work? And are there specific jobs or positions you think are worth applying for?

I’m starting my first year at uvic on the 9th of September (BSc Psych) and I’m just really nervous. I’ve had awful experiences starting at new schools in the past. I’m already feeling disoriented because I’m living off campus (moved in 3 days ago) and I’m new to Victoria, so adjusting is going a little rough for me.
Does anyone have any tips on adjusting? Spots to check out, activities to do? I’m living with 2 friends from my hometown so I do have that on my side but I’m already ridiculously homesick. Really any advice is appreciated!!

Im currently wasted for two of my required courses (COM100 and COM120) and I’m worried that since it’s a required class, the waitlist won’t move as much. i’m 20th and 5th on the wait lists but still nervous does anyone know if it’ll move or am i cooked?
