Yep. First time freaked me out a little, ngl.

I still enjoy the music tbh. That haunting metal style boss music makes the fight way more impressive sounding than it actually is.

It’s wild how good the boss music is. Take it out and the bosses are pretty lame, tbh. Not that I play Valheim for the bosses.

Shows how powerful a good soundtrack is!

I remember the first time being the most memorable. Everytime after seems like its way less cinematic.

Spawn in > make knife > sneak skill deer > knife big deer to death > off to black forest.

Never fails.

Eikthyr hates to see me coming day one with a flint dagger and enough trophies for the main kill and some decorations

1

u/Derrythe 40m ago

Eikthyr: Ah, another fool places a trophy on my altar. You will die for your sacril... Wait, why do you have 10 more trophies?

I like flint spear for ranged attacks

i keep meaning to do a knife run, but i always end up spear gaming until i need a mace for bonemass

Yep. First time I had sweated about it, tried to build a tower I could shoot at it from, and kept failing miserably.

Most recent time I did it I just used a spear, a shield, and didn't even bother making a helmet.

pretty much. I usually have a finewood bow when I face em and they go down pretty damn quick.

u/Calm-Tadpole-6805 3h ago

How do you get a finewood bow before eithkyr ?

15

u/ECMatua 3h ago

Probably using the big boys in black Forrest to chop trees and mine copper/tin for them.

Have had a friend do that to skip the big deer and do their own thing while waiting on our new to valheim friends to progress for a group deer fight.

Look for shipwrecks on the shore of the Black Forest areas. Chop 'em up and you get a load of finewood.

1

u/Dracovision 1h ago

Shipwrecks? Been a while since I've played, but certainly don't remember any shipwrecks in my fav biome...

4

u/b3rry108 1h ago

They are mostly fragments of wood planks sticking along the shore

Here: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Shipwreck

Those are primo sources of finewood, can be scavenged with a flint axe.

Or a set of Early Axes. Those things are lovely. I keep all of the duplicates in one of my many main worlds so that I can throw a pair on any new char I decide to roll.

Edit typo.

Everyone making great suggestions, and I’m over here knocking trees into each other and searching out that low campfire ring with the core wood

6

u/SamSibbens 1h ago

Yeah I make trees hit each other until they break

2

u/Halollet 58m ago

That's what I do!

Easy and safe, just takes a bit of time.

3

u/JesterJosh 22m ago

I don’t know about safe. I’ve been hit in the head by a log a few times

2

u/Eldon42 Happy Bee 2h ago

Run around the shoreline in the Black Forest, and look for shipwrecks. Chop those up and you get finewood.

1

u/cok3noic3 1h ago

Early axes can take down a birch tree

0

u/Serithraz 3h ago

Corewood can be gathered with a stone axe. As for the fine wood, you chop down a regular tree next to it, and then essentially use it as a batterring ram to damage the finewood tree til it breaks.

The first time it turned into night and everything was shaking I was sweating bullets. Super intense fight.

Now I make sure to drop him a second time for the trophy to put above my bed.

u/FugginIpad 2h ago

Wait can bosses be summoned multiple times?

4

u/avillathor 2h ago

If you have the item, yes

4

u/Eldon42 Happy Bee 2h ago

As many as you want.

You can even summon two bosses at the same time.

A friend and I had to deal with him cuz' he was making a new save. We ended up killing it with a log in a slope.

"Tronquito" became a honorary viking.

Remember my first time fighting him we over prepped with fire arrows and all and one of my friends just kept spewing them till there where like 8 lmao

7

u/Ok-Yoghurt4494 4h ago

dodging is the most op thing in valheim, because of invincibility frames, i really try to bow eithkyr down while failing 5 times, and my last time killin it was with torches and no armour for fun

7

u/paradoxLacuna 3h ago

Yup, remember one time me and my buddies all agreed to beat him to death with our fists, and then the four of us proceeded to kite him halfway across the island taking turns punching the daylights out of him in the middle of a thunderstorm. It was peak.

We had a much less fun time fighting the elder

8

u/SasparillaTango 2h ago

He's super dramatic, but then you learn how generous the rolls i-frames are and how well telegraphed all the moves are and its like oh ok, I just need a flint spear and some food and we're good to go.

8

u/Skrimb0 3h ago

Played too many souls games for eikthyr to not be anything but a silly tutorial boss, he hella cool tho

2

u/Informal_Job_7550 Happy Bee 4h ago

First time fighting him was incredibly difficult, stressful, and dramatic.

These days, I just put him down with a flint knife before I even craft leather armor. Almost feel bad for the guy.

u/fayt03 21m ago

this applies to everything in the game tbh. First timers arriving in the Ashlands have it rough, but once you've done it a couple times it's easy to just make landfall and beeline straight to a charred fortress and plant the first portal right there.

1

u/Capital_Jacket4701 3h ago

Last time i played i killed him bare hands, first though..... Was a challenge and pur battle was glorious

1

u/Mobile-Phone-9332 3h ago

My last playthrough I didn’t even bother getting a bow, I just merc’d him with campfires and running in circles lmao

u/EnjoyerOfFine_Things 1h ago

There a useable template for this meme with these 2 images? Like to make my own on other video game bosses

1

u/Eldon42 Happy Bee 1h ago

I created it from scratch. But it's white text against black, should be easy enough to replace in a basic image editor.

0

u/karok09 3h ago

Yeah deadass he is dog easy to dodge roll through you don't need literally anything if your unarmed is lvl 1+

0

u/karok09 3h ago

Reddit geeked and ate first half of my comment he did in fact have me and my friend cheesing ab how cool it was the first 20 times we fought it

0

u/thecamp2000 3h ago

I died like 3 times until I killed him. In multiplayer it became a recreational experience.

0

u/sfaviator 2h ago

The first time when the screen shook and the music changed was epic fought him for so long with my crude bow. it’s still epic but now I just melt the guy with a fine wood bow on my way to the Black Forest.

u/itsamoth 1h ago

i laughed out loud, good meme OP

My first Valheim experience I made my first base beside his eikthyrs altar. I was only wearing rags, but the greylings were so easy to kill that I just decided to go for it and fight the boss with nothing but my stone axe. Not a good idea. When he spawned and there was all that lightning, I knew I fucked up. He stomped the shit out of me. I spawned at my base, but guess who is at the door. Only he brought friends because the forest is moving. I died 5 times in a row before giving up and starting a new world. I geared up to fight him proper, went back and reclaimed my base.

Love the post, very funny, but never have I ever read a typo that bothered me as much as this one does.

1

u/Eldon42 Happy Bee 24m ago

What typo?

1

u/Culsandar 9m ago

That's not how you spell Eikthyr
