Big week for VB. I posted yesterday that she was the AP POTW. She’s also the official WNBA Week 14 Western Conference Player of the Week!

She better not be recruiting for a new coach!! Already got half of the league go to Dallas after Unrivaled so; either come to the bay or go find another coach lol

Such a funny video of Paige and Coach Nat bantering. For a minute I thought Paige had joined the Valkyries ;).

Not saying that Coach Nakase is actively recruiting, but it's a great way to get to know each other! Both Phee and Jackie Young would be a good fit, two way players (I think Young is a better switchable defender, tho).

We went 4-0 during the week of 8/24/26. VB averaged 11.3 PPG 8.8 APG 2.0 SPG. She also had a 17.5 AST/TO ratio during this period.

This is the Associated Press award, not the WNBA award for POTW but I like acknowledging when the media rewards our players since our players are usually underrated by media voters.

According to ESPN, the Golden State Valkyries have the highest chance of winning the WNBA Championship this year! (Updated August 31st)

I’m always crocheting for others, so this was MY GIFT to MYSELF! I took time out of the day just to watch my Valks play and each game, I’d crochet pieces of my cardigan and hat! The cardigan was finished on Father’s Day and holds a meaning more special than I could have ever imagined.

I lost my uncle just days after finishing this cardigan. He sat right beside as I finished the cuffs on the sleeves. I had no idea that would be my last time seeing him. His memory, the love and care that he consistently displayed will live on through this project and within me. Here’s to you, Uncle Funky!! 💜

Here we sit at the end of August, with one last win over the Fire and the World Cup Break upon us. Let’s take stock and see where things stand before we all tune over to the action in Berlin for the next few weeks. 

Current Standings through 8/30:

• Current Valkyries Seeding: 2 of 15
• Current Highest Possible Playoff Seed: 1st
• Highest Possible Seed without Help: 2nd
• Current Lowest Possible Playoff Seed: 5th
• Games Remaining: 4
• Current Magic Numbers:
  • 1 Seed: DNCD (do not control destiny, Lynx need to lose)
  • 2 Seed: 3
  • 3 Seed: 2
  • 4 Seed: 1
  • 5 Seed: 0 (lowest possible finish)

Notes:

• The current highest percentage finishes for the Valks are: 88% chance to finish second, a 8% chance to finish 3rd, and even 4% chance to finish 1st (more on that below), everything else is less than 1%
• Quirk of the schedule but no one currently has any games in hand, all the teams have exactly 4 games left to play after the break, everyone will play a fairly tight four games in eight days when they return on the 17th
• The playoffs theoretically kick on Sunday September 27th, three days after the end of the season on the 24th
• Somewhat shockingly, The Lynx still have a magic number of 2 to clinch first overall as they lost to the Dream on Sunday. However, any combination of 2 Lynx wins or Valkyries losses will do the trick and lock the Lynx into first,
• Aside from the Lynx and Valks all other teams are mathematically eliminated from the 1st seed
• The Lynx are very good but unlike a week ago you can kind of squint, grunt, and fantasize a bit and see a path to the Valks controlling their destiny for the 1st seed. First, the Valkyries effectively sit 3 games back from the Lynx due to not having the tiebreak. Next, the Valks get to play the Fire (twice), Sparks and Seattle while the Lynx have to play the Fever (twice), Liberty-biberty, and Sun. One of these teams clearly has a harder stretch run where they have to play three playoff teams, the other does not have to play any playoff teams
• Fire Watch! 50% of the Valkyries remaining games are against the Portland Fire 
• The Valks hold the tie breakers over the entire playoff field with the exception of the Lynx and Aces whom they have to beat outright for seeding purposes

• 9/22 - GSV @ PDX
• 9/24 - GSV @ LAS

How are these selling out in minutes? Got an email that tickets are now on sale for both September games 15 minutes ago, and trips from Oakland are already sold out for both days?

I really hope the Ferry situation improves next season - more ferries and not having to walk nearly a mile to the arena would be lovely!

With so much at stake in the final four games of the season, every game between playoff teams takes on greater importance. Golden State, Las Vegas and Dallas are free and clear of any more postseason previews, but here are the six remaining:

Friday, Sept. 18: New York at Minnesota

Sunday, Sept. 20: Washington at Indiana

Monday, Sept. 21: Atlanta at New York

Tuesday, Sept. 22: Minnesota at Indiana

Wednesday, Sept. 23: Atlanta at New York

Thursday, Sept. 24: Indiana at Minnesota

The Lynx need to win at least one of those games (assuming they also beat the Connecticut Sun) to secure the No. 1 seed and homecourt advantage through the playoffs. Three wins could get New York into the top four and a first-round Game 1 at Barclays Center, and Atlanta probably needs to split with the Liberty to stay in the 4-5 matchup.
