A common idea of the world of vampires is that vampires are killed by sunlight. This concept was popularized by the 1922 vampire movie Nosferatu.

In some lore, the reason is about magic: The sun represents symbolic purity, is a divine stellar object. The moon is not, it is for demons and other unholy creatures. That's why vampires can't venture out on a sunny day in this magic oriented lore.

The moon has no light of its own. It merely reflects sunlight. Then, why aren't vampires killed by moonlight?

The moon absorbs most of the light that hits it. Only about 13% is reflected. Sunlight is 400 000 - 1 000 000 times more intense than the light from a full moon. Vampires might be somewhat weak supervillains, but they aren't that weak. That could be the reason to why moonlight works fine for vampires in this more scientific oriented vampire lore.

Is it? Because like, duh, killing a person is morally wrong. But is it for a vampire? Because vampires need blood to survive. And like, yeah, in some versions vampires can survive from drinking animal blood. But, animal blood makes them weaker than if they were to drink human blood and they also crave human blood much more. So is it morally wrong for a vampire to kill a human?

Has anyone read the new Fright Night books and comics that Tom Holland is writing. He brought back Evil Ed and made him Angel or Spike.The new one The Witching Hour is releasing this month and its becoming more Buffy-like for having witches, zombies and demons. Even though the old NOW comics run had done that before or the original movie because Holland said that Billy Cole is a golem.

Need to settle a debate I'm having with a friend that is driving me nuts. My friend believes that most often in modern day media, vampires have hollow fangs that they suck the blood through like straws. I however, believe that the more commonly portrayed method is using the fangs to puncture the skin, then lapping up the blood much like a vampire bat.

I am aware that both portrayals exist, but my issue is his belief that the straw method is the prevailing portrayal in modern media. Am I misinformed in believing this to be untrue?

Say a vampire creature drinks blood because it needs fibrin, trigonelline, and water (in no particular order)?

Would they be able to process cucumbers (~96% water), radishes (high water content+high concentration of trigonelline), fenugreek seeds, and arabica coffee as well?

How often might they have to feed on humans to sustain this lifestyle? I know vampire bats are small and drink twice their weight every other night or so.

I'm also thinking that they carry muscle relaxers, anticoagulants, low level anesthetics, a retro-virus that can "turn you" in their saliva. Do you think this is a good mix?

it doesn't matter whether one was a fan of twilight, or the vampire diaries or anything of the sort, but I have noticed this "trend" of "humane" vampires who don't want to kill humans, so they kill animals instead, but it makes no sense to me. Animals are no less than humans, and a lot of them (such as the cougar that Bella killed for example) are endangered because of humans anyway. There are 8 billion people on earth, not all of them are good. Why not just kill bad guys? If I was a vampire i'd never be able to kill an innocent animal, predator or a herbivore etc. I'd never. I would go into crime infected areas, listen for screams and pleads of help etc. and find rapists, murderers etc. I genuinely don't understand how vampires in fiction have SUCH immense strength over humans, but they just hunt animals (or regular humans) instead of using their strength for good.

I am always working on an Edwardian era vampire hunting kit. Prop thing. I had a hammer and stakes but they were not usable, didn't feel 'real'. Fixed that! 🤪

Lilith as the first vampire stems from Babylonian and Jewish mythology. In some Jewish traditions, Lilith was Adam's first wife. Lilith wouldn't subjugate to Adam and left Eden to become a nightly blood drinking demon. God then created the pushover Eve as Adam's new wife.

In Francis Ford Coppola's movie Bram Stoker's Dracula from 1992, the Christian knight Dracula voluntarily chosed to leave Christianity to become the first vampire. He did this because he felt let down by God after his wife's suicide.

Sekhmet as the first vampire stems from Egyptian mythology. Sekhmet was a deity in ancient Egypt. While not exactly a vampire, she was a blood drinker, a goddess of war as well as a healer.
