Moving Here! | Where Can I Find Housing | Just Visiting - Weekly Sticky : Mon 08/31/26 - Thu 09/03/26
You asked, we listened! It's not uncommon for local subreddits like us to have an endless barrage of "I'm moving here, whats best?" or "I need to find a new part of town, help me!" or even the classic "So, I'm in town this week, entertain me!" requests.
They fill up the front page, and posts about our community get lost. So we're bringing back the Mega-thread. Every Monday we'll refresh this post for new information.
What does this mean?
Posts like these will no longer be allowed outside this posting, and will be removed at the moderators discretion:
- Quiet Part of Town
- Where to move in the area?
- House Rental Recommendations
- Relocating to Van as a Single Parent
- Coming to visit Vancouver, WA
- Visiting in May for a month - what’s not to be missed?
What does this not mean?
- Every post will be caught by moderators, and removed.
- "BestAround?" posts will be lumped into this thread.
So looking to join us in the great pacific northwestern city of Vancouver, Washington? Ask your questions here:

Discussion Please don't speed in neighborhoods
I just got done dropping my daughter off at school. I pull up to Franklin out from my neighborhood and a white Mercedes SUV goes flying down a road that children cross to get to school or the bus stop. I lay on my horn as a knee-jerk reaction, then take my right. The guy pulls off to the side of the road and rolls his window down. I pull up next to him and roll mine down, say "Dude you can't be driving like that in a neighborhood, there's kids that walk here (point at my daughter in the back)." He starts shouting and cussing about how he has to get his daughter to school and there wasn't a fucking stop sign and blah blah blah. He keeps shouting and asking me "what the fuck you gonna do about it bro?", I calmly say "I just want you to drive like there are children that walk in this neighborhood", it's like he knew he was wrong but just wouldn't let himself accept it, he then tried to escalate again by asking what I want to do about it, I drove off. And then he was right in the same line as me at the same time to drop his kid off at school.
I realize it's a risk to engage people like this but I also feel like we are enabling them by never calling them out. I just wanted to rant. People have too much "main character syndrome" and people drive too damn fast any more.
For the kids, just don't.

Pets: Lost and Found Sweet kitten needs a home.
Stray kitten (Probably 7 mo) needs a good home. He is very sweet and friendly and is warming up to being picked up. He is playful but won’t extend claws. He comes when I call for him.
Hit me up if you want to adopt this awesome little dude. I really don’t want him out in all the rain we are about to get.

BestAround? Looking for Photography-Free Gym with Functional Fitness Classes Within 30 Minutes of Downtown Vancouver
I'm looking for a full, spacious gym (weights, cardio) open seven days a week that also has functional fitness classes and does not allow photography of any kind. Not by patrons, management, or staff. I just want to work out and train in peace. I can't seem to find this in Vancouver. The community centers are photo free but have other issues. I'm willing to drive to neighboring towns including Portland if such a place exists. Thanks for any recommendations.

BestAround? Dentures and dental implant recs
Are there dentists that can remove dental implants and then create regular dentures for a client? I’m looking on behalf of someone in their 70s on a very limited income, on Medicare and Medicaid, whose implant crowns are coming out and she’s been dealing with them becoming loose and now dealing with them coming out and she’s fed up. If anyone has any recommendations for someone who is affordable and also does good work, please let me know!

BestAround? ISO: Best Dentist for Same Day Crown
I'm looking for a new dentist and I am particularly interested in finding someone who has an amazing reputation for great experiences with same day crowns and other intensive work. I'll need a crown within the next year and I have just enough dental anxiety that I want it to be a one-and-done experience, role as minimally impactful as possible.
Please let me know if you have had an amazing experience somewhere. Vancouver is preferred but I also don't mind popping into Portland.
Thank you!

Question? Lawn protocol for fall

Am I supposed to put down fertilizer for the winter, aerate, etc etc. I ask because this is a different climate then I'm used to.

Discussion Costco Produce
Has anyone noticed that Costco produce has been less fresh lately? It's normally my go-to because I don't have a lot of time to shop, but they stock good-quality things that I eat and prices are fair. However, my last 2 bags of potatoes were rotten within days; I had to stop buying spring mix because it would only last a day, and my broccoli is rotting immediately. I know that the whole American supply chain is ruined and that the farming industrial complex is evil, but what gives?

Question? Compass Coffee Banana Pudding
Does anyone know the secret recipe for this coffee shops banana pudding? It’s the best i’ve tried! I tried asking the barista for the recipe but she said they use a premade pudding and add the wafers and bananas themselves. I don’t know how accurate that is, but i’m curious if anyone would know the answer?

Events Crafting Group
Hello! Some months ago, I posted here to ask for people who were interested in starting a crafting group. We got quite a few people, but attendance has slowed down a bit. I’d like to get some fresh members in :)
we meet locally in downtown Vancouver weekly. Everyone is welcome to bring their own craft, doesn’t matter what it is! We share materials often as well to create collages, paint, draw, etc. It’s just a fun time to make some friends, chat, have a drink (or not) and work on whatever you want to do :)
Please DM me for more information like location. Our group currently includes a mix of both men and women, late 20s to mid 30s, but everyone is welcome :) we all communicate on a discord server, and have all become good friends, often making plans outside of the crafting group as well. If you’re looking for a good way to make some friends your age, please consider joining us! 😊

Discussion Toasted S’Mores, IMO
It was… not good. The thing about s’mores is, if you’re going to make a whole shop around something so simple, every ingredient needs to be premium and curated. We tried 3 flavors, for science. The grahams were unremarkable, as was the chocolate. I did like the marshmallow and it was toasted just right, super melty. But the composition was rushed, so every bite had a different 1-2 ingredients but few bites had every ingredient. And if I’m being a little extra I think some flaky salt could have gone a long way to round them out. Also they really need self service water in there after eating the sugar bombs. Maybe my expectations were too high… they are reminiscent of your most basic childhood s’more if that’s what you’re going for. Fun menu. Execution was just ok.

Post Flair Request Accidentally Sold Percolator
This may be a long shot, but I'm looking for a percolator (similar to this one) that accidentally sold at my family garage sale last weekend.
Purchased for $1 in the Columbia River high school/Lake Shore elementary school area.
It was part of my parents original camping equipment, and I'm feeling just sick about it 😓 please DM me

BestAround? any search and rescue sniffer dogs around vancouver?
I recently lost my cat Jackie who I posted about yesterday on this subreddit, but i’m curious if there are any agencies or if anyone personally who has a search and rescue dog would be able to sniff some of his toys for scent and try to find him. I’m willing to pay the price. I already reached out to Three Retrievers Lost and Rescue, but they said they could be backed up with requests and that it could be completely lost or forgotten, so doesn’t feel too reliable for my situation.
Yes we’ve posted online, made flyers, looked in his usual spots around the house, checked all the nearby bushes. Seems like he just disappeared like one of those kids from the movie “weapons”. He hates being outside too.

Politics Trap Door closed at 5:00pm tonight.
On a Saturday. It’s pretty quiet at Trap Door Brewing and I’m quietly hoping that the staff quit and their customers discovered that Loyal Legion is a much better place to spend their hard earned money.
Bryan Shull hosting Republican US Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and congressional Republican candidate John Braun for a political campaign event earlier this month forced me to find some great local alternatives! And guess what??? We have several in the area! Thirsty Sasquatch, Uptown Barrel Room, Loyal Legion…..all within walking distance of Trap Door.
I want to thank the people who made a deliberate choice to spend their money at an alternative brewery. Political consumerism works.

BestAround? Where are people finding cleaning services?
I’m looking for a weekly or twice-weekly cleaning service but having an awful time working through Yelp. I won’t get into it, but let’s just say some strange and unprofessional experiences.
Where is everyone finding their cleaning people?
