My mental health usually tanks from September -April, because of the seasons changing however I'm grateful for the months I can spend in the sunshine and growing things. Creating life and nurturing nature is bliss.

California Wonder. I have eaten several green bell peppers off the plants this year, but this is the first one that has actually turned. Pest pressure has been kicking my ass this year.

I probably could have let it sit for another couple days but I was getting antsy :)

Midnight pumpkin update: day 5!

My first pumpkin endeavor and she is absolutely gorgeous.

This is a Midnight F1 pumpkin. She’s mini, will grow to about 1lb and come out so dark green she’ll appear midnight black.

Why is this so exciting?!?! 🎃👻🍂

I got lots of good sized potatoes from this plant but I do see tiny little potatoes still attached so just wondering if I should have left it longer. Or is it like microwave popcorn where there's always a few unpopped kernels no matter what you do, haha. Alternatively can I replant it if they're still attached to the main plant? 😅

II need to talk to people who might understand what I'm going through! Because none of my (amazing) hermit gamer friends go outside, lol.

I recently bought a home with a garden and decided it was perfect for starting a little vegetable garden. Little did I know how much I would LOVE this.

In the beginning, I feel like I was pretty neutral about it, but once my first cucumber grew, there was this incredible feeling. The fact that I was eating something I grew sparked something in me. Not just that, it was the juiciest, most delicious cucumber I've ever had.

I've made so many mistakes.. I let my tomato plants grow wild. One got sick and turned brown all the way from the bottom upwards - I then made the mistake of pruning them and using the same tools on all my plants, which are now all suffering the same fate, lol.

This, however, hasn't stopped me - it has intrigued me more than anything. It has prompted me to learn how to go about this next year, and I can't wait to try again. I had no clue how much went into gardening, and I am super excited to keep on learning!

I don't know where to store all of this so my countertop is getting quite full 😅 a good problem to have!

I planted romas for salsa & pico de gallo and celebrities for sandwiches & burgers! (next time I'll have to plant my cilantro and lettuce that were supposed to go with those later, both are nearly going to seed at this point)

Aside from sauces and sandwiches, how do you use up your tomatoes?

You don’t need to get a ruler out when planting annual veggies. I let 3-4 volunteer tomato plants grow in this corner in my garden, no pruning, just wrapped them with a wire cage to give support, and they’re exploding with fruit. Honestly I don’t even know what variety they are, probably store bought tomatoes that were in my compost.

Just showing any new gardeners that if you’re intimidated by the thought of working hard for a good crop, you don’t have to babysit plants. Just give them good soil, water, and sun and they’ll reward you!

I grew a tomato plant from these old seeds I found in my cabinet last year and finally got like 10 tomatoes off of it before the summer heat hit. I cut a few open for dinner and they looked beautiful but when I got to this one, I saw all these seeds inside growing inside it from just sitting in a caddy out of the fridge. The thing is, I haven't seen this in person. Only online. It's super rare I guess but now I'm wondering if what I actually found was a bag of heirloom seeds (like my mom claims) or if I just got lucky?

Plus, they are disease resistant, do not attract the dreaded squash vine borer, and produce tons of fruit. You need the room and a trellis or fence for them to grow on, but I no longer grow zucchini since these are so good. No seeds in the neck, only in the bulb.

Now the fun part of what to do with all of the peppers! 😂

Had my first attempt at cucumbers this year, going better than I expected! I know the plants are rather... Unkept, but hey I've never tried this before 😅

Yesterday, I noticed that someone had been eating my potato leaves but couldn't find the culprit. I was going to move it to the other side of my garden. This morning, I discovered that nature had different plans. It sad, gross, and fascinating!

It’s been VERY hot (zone 9B) and finally cooled down this past week. Sooo many male pumpkins flowers and new growth but no ladies yet… (planted from seed 6/2) unless that last pic is the start of a pumpkin lady??

Our birdhouse gourds are growing well. My question is now what? I’ve read that they could stay on the vine through winter (zone 6b) but that worries me. Anyone out in Reddit garden world, your advice for the next steps would be greatly appreciated!

Planted these from seed this year but it really was stupid of me to pull them so early. They had been in the pot for 4 months at this point lol. They were so pretty though! Next year I will do better.

Grew corn for the first time this year. 4’x8’ planter box. Spaced the corn 8-10” apart in rows/grid pattern. They seem to be a little smaller than I expected. This picture is the raw ear. I removed the top portion cooked this ear and it tasty very starchy(?). Did I pick it too soon or is there something else that could be going on?
