Redesigns Flag for a United Ireland/Irish Federation

Inspired by this recent post and the horrors which Siliconversations created in his United Ireland flag video

While I love the tricolour, I don't think reusing it is fair to the identify of those living in the North. I also doubt Ireland could remain a unitary republic with one central authority in Dublin. More likely we see a more federal system like Germany, where power could be shared between the North and South or the 4 provinces overall.

Given the Irish harp is a cool and smart design that represents the entire island, let's use it!

Apart from stretching the two colours out and adding the white harp to symbolise peace, the only other change was removing a few strings to symbolise the four provinces on the island. Thanks to this 11 year old comment for the idea!

Edit: removed fluff

OC Trans lesbian and trans gay flags I made

Symbolism: The pride flag in the background is the standard pride flag. The triangle theme is based on the triangular badges the nazis made people like us, trans people and those with same sex or same gender attraction. The three triangles in the edges are to represent the trans flag. The large purple/violet triangle represents Lesbians or just general sapphics like nonbinary females attracted to women. The pink triangle in the version for men and nonbinary males attracted to men is pink due to the pink badges the nazis used.

Discussion Only four sovereign flags use red and yellow and nothing else. The argument is over which four.

It comes down to where you put charges. Judge the field alone and you get one

list. Count everything on the cloth, arms included, and you get a shorter one.

Spain is the obvious casualty of the strict reading: the field is red-yellow-red,

the arms carry blue and white and silver.

By the strict reading I count four. The near-misses are the better half of the

question, because several flags read red-and-yellow at a glance until a charge

drags a third colour in.

Try it before you scroll. Which four, and where do you draw the line?

Redesigns Future flag referendums

Are there any announced referendums for changing the national flag anywhere in the near future? (like what New Zealand had several years ago)
And if so what are the proposed new flags?

Redesigns United Ireland flag concept I already had for a LARP before the border poll trend. Based on the flags and geographical areas of the traditional provinces.

I kinda just had this made already for something between myself and my friends. My concept for a United Ireland flag was to have each province represented by color and area.

For Ulster, I chose Red because of Lámh Dhearg. This obviously represents the six counties joining and the three Ulster counties already part of the republic.

For Munster, I chose Blue because it is the primary color of their flag.

For Connacht, I chose white because it is the other background color on their flag. Blue was already used for Munster.

For Leinster, I chose green because Leinster uses the green Harp of Erin flag.

I also represented An Mhí and non-denominationalism with a yellow iron cross. Green and Yellow are the colors on Meath's (Meath? Mead?) flag. I used the Iron Cross because it was a Protestant symbol (German) inspired by a Catholic symbol (Teutonic).

I couldn't decide between rectangular or triangular cantons so I submitted both. As always, Criticism is appreciated, especially from people who live on the Island.

Redesigns New Jersey Flag Concept

Post image
5 Upvotes

Each of the colors in this remade variation of the New Jersey flag represent something. The green represents the “Garden State” and Pine Barrens Forests. The blue represents the river, or many rivers which run through the state. The yellow or “buff” stars represent the three major parts of New Jersey, which are North Jersey, the Jersey Shore and South Jersey. The blue and yellow on the flag match to the original New Jersey flag as close as possible. The green is Kelly Green, which shows part of New Jersey’s identity in football and can be interpreted as the Philadelphia Eagles. The “cable” blue, which attempts to capture the one of the original colors of the flag, could be interpreted as New York Giants blue, and the blue of the Atlantic Ocean on the eastern coast of the state.

Please leave me any thoughts, comments, or improvements that I can make! (I did this in Google Slides in about 10 minutes, sorry :p)

I imagined a scenario in which the Habsburg dynasty of the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapses, and the Austrian portion opts to unite with Germany to stem the decline—granting the title of *Kaiser von Österreich* to the Prussian *Deutsche Kaiser* and merging the two german monarchies.into one—to contain the advance of republican and independence movements.

Historical Which of these former proposals for the Portuguese Republic’s flag would have been the best?

Thumbnail

Back in 1910 the Portuguese monarchy was overthrown, and replaced with a republic.

There were many proposals, for the new flag that would come to represent the new regime.

Some of those flags aimed at keeping the traditional Blue and White, others advocated for a more radical change in colours like the current one the country got. And some others even mixed both the traditional and new colours the republic wanted to adopt.

Obviously not all proposals are present here, but I choose some that communicate the idea of what many authors were going for.

I’d love to hear your takes on which one is your favourite out of these proposals and if you believe the country was better off with its traditional colours, or the new ones it got, or a mix of both?
