Funny Don't Settle For Less

I don't mind playing 30 FPS on older systems because I grew up playing games since the NES. But that was because it is retro media and once you make those games you can't fix them.

Nowadays 30 FPS is harder to justify because we've gotten better at optimizing games and patching them when they are buggy or release in poor condition.

My point is we shouldn't settle for less than what we deserve. Whether it be PC or console.

I don't care either way. If I can get 60 fps out of a game, great. But 30 is far from unplayable.

It honestly depends on the game though.

30fps in truck simulator is barely distinguishable from 60fps

But 30fps on an fps? That’s unplayable 100%

30fps in a multiplayer fps game*.

30fps is just fine in singleplayer. As long as you aren't having to deal with other folks going faster than you it really doesn't matter until you really dip below 30.

30 FPS is jarring to me and I know that sounds spoiled. Like everything just looks and moves weirdly. Maybe its my OCD but I cant handle 30 fps nowadays.

It 100% is spoiled and really would depend on the game and if you can see the fps. Playing old games that were built on 30 runs great, playing new games built on 30 that you haven't played on 60, same. I can't play Destiny 2 at 30 anymore after playing on my PS5 because of how it drags but that's a me problem

As long as it’s a consistent 30 with well executed light motion blur, I’m totally fine with 30 fps. Played on ps4 with 30 for a long time and never had any complaints.

30 FPS just looks bad and sluggish to me. It pulls me right out immersion wise alot. I know its a me thing but I just cant get past it. Talking about modern gaming BTW not retro where 30 is more than acceptable.

Huh? What differnce does it make if its mp or sp as long as it's fp shooter? It's still the same fps. Personally 30fps in a fp shooter is headache inducing. But I agree if it's some other game like Balatro 30fps would most likely be fine.

The difference is having to deal with other folks at higher FPS. Even in co-op games it can make a huge difference with folks able to react faster to a thing because of FPS changes.

Okay yes, but 30fps still looks like 30fps. You might have more of an advantage but still equally headache inducing. Not like 30fps looks smoother in sp compared to mp. Not saying you are wrong, just pointing out that for some it doesn't matter if it's mp or sp.

Lol I still throw on Perfect Dark any time I hook up my N64, which frequently drops below 30. It takes my eyes 10 minutes max to adjust to a low fps

It targeted 30fps. It dipped below that frequently and egregiously, especially without an Expansion Pak. The point is no matter the game, all I need is a few minutes for my eyes to adjust and for my brain to get used to the controls. I played Jurassic Park Trespasser on my '98 e-machine, a notoriously unfinished, unoptimized game. Most of it ran at sub 10 fps, still beat it.

I'm a gamer, we're adaptable. I can do a shooter at 30fps no problem at all, even though my preference is 120+

Its literally is not. Thats literally 3 frames per millisecond. You almost cant see it

It's really depends on the game, your display and how stable the frame rate is.

Absolutely. It probably won't be super comfy at 30 (but no biggie), but 40 fps is absolutely, totally fine by me. Those skipping good games just because of low fps, are spoiled kids.

I've played at the cinematic rate of 24 fps in some ps3 games lmao. I think anything down from 15 is awful
